Pistols for lefties!

I'm not a lefty but my mother in law is and she was asking if I would find her a good concealed carry pistol that would work for her. the only truly lefty pistols I found were a charter arms revolver and a 1911 that was way way beyond her price range.

so lefties out there that have an opinion or people that know lefties? just looking for something that would work best for her, whether that be a lefty gun or ambidextrous gun.

Aside from reloading... since 99.9% of revolver CCW's don't carry reloads... aren't ALL revolvers "technically" ambidextrous?

I have a two shot .357 derringer that I do not carry spare ammo for. I do carry a second (or third) gun though, and at least one of them has reloads.

Honestly, why not a S&W 43C .22lr? Sure, it's a little bit pricier that others, but... It's a revolver, controllable, and has 8 rounds! She won't be upset with the performance, and will appreciate the cost and fun to practice. A .22lr at close range will FUK someones world up just fine, and multiply that FUK-Factor x8 and you have a complete scenario.

Any 38+P short barreled Revolver , I say +P only because they are made a little stronger , with the same size spec's , as std 38 special . My Wife's S&W 642 Airweight  with internal Hammer is an easy rev. to shot & carry . She loves it , I had to buy her something to get her away from carrying my Colt King Cobra around , that is a Hand Cannon & too valuable for her to carry any way .

Take her shopping, big store with a big selection.  She needs something she finds comfortable that she will shoot.  I've had plenty of students blast a snubby revolver (someone told them to buy) that never shoot again.

Plenty of new firearms semi-auto pistols are fully ambidextrous.  The FNH FNS series pistols come with or without manual safeties, duty size or compact, slide stops on both sides.  The Ruger SR series are mostly ambidextrous (safeties and magazine releases), .22LR up to .45acp for whatever floats her boat.  The Remington R51 had a rough start in 2014, so they stopped production.  Getting very good reports on it now, to include a very easy to operate slide and low perceived recoil.  Kahr makes good pistols, only the slide stop and trigger to worry about.  Walter's CCP is getting good reports, with the mag release being reversable instead of truly ambi.

Again, let her try them out and see what fits her hand at the store.  Then, if you have a range with rentals nearby, have her try a few.  Few things suck worse than spending hundreds of dollars on something you hate.

yeah, problem is I am not near them, so just trying to do as much research as possible. revolvers don't have to worry about ejecting rounds into a person's face, but if it isn't left handed it is difficult to reload for a lefty I hear.

so probably looking more towards a semi-auto with ambi mag release and slide stop. I'm thinking a simple striker fired pistol with no safety.

Unless they are 200 yards away and the brass is coming from mikedaddy's P-Witness 10mm with his handloads.

Hell yes! HOT handloads - even though he says "they're warm..."  I'm in that club, too...  :laffs:

doesn't matter the size of the brass burns, they hurt like a bitch no matter what. I had a .40 go in between my eye protection and my eye a few months ago. I couldn't get it out, finally did and finished my qualifications. but my eye ended up getting swollen shut.

That's when you pull a David Caruso:

lol. shepp, I am gonna have to send my mother in law to you to pick out a gun since I am up here. haha. :P

Well looks like your going on a roadie my friend.

I was in there before they remodeled and this older guy was looking at hand guns all the sudden I hear the guy behind the counter say "if you don't know what your looking for why are you wasting my time". Typical big box store bull shit, counter guy was probably pissed he wasn't back at home playing call of duty. The older guy was just looking to get some questions answered about CC, I felt bad for him.

i like my XDs too, mine is a .45 tho, she would probably fair better with the 9mm lol. My buddy got his wife a little glock .380 she's got little hands and has a hard time pulling the slide back on a lot of guns, but she can operate that one.

My girls like the grip and feel of the XD but they don't like the spappy recoil of the 40s&w. And to contrast that they like the 9mm Kahr ,"Big time" !

As a lefty never had a problem with any pistol flinging brass at me.SBR's are another thing as well as the Tavor. For a novice shooter semi-auto's require a little more work [as in malfunction remediation] tap, rack, and clearing a stove pipe. Being a mechanical device anything is possible. A revolver with at least a 4" barrel and a hammer for eliminating the long trigger pull would be helpful. Ruger's revolvers are suppose to have an easy trigger pull. Ruger has good products for the money. Just my 2 mags.

P's and M's oh well ! I guess the XD doesn't count.

Everyone knows those are all P.  Nothing but P all over them:  thin P, fat P, enhanced grippable gen 2 P, interchangeable P.

Sounds like a porn genre.

Edit:  Forgot about the one for those folks who aren't quite sure about P, the safety P.  Scared of P with no safety but not three foot double headed jelly dongs. :lmao:
