98s 18" Grendel Light(er) Hunter

Working on this for awhile, ordered extra parts when I built the first 18" Grendel.  Extra Toolcraft BCG when I needed one, AP lower receiver (2) when I needed one, etc.  Got impatient waiting on the first barrel (the Mk12 barrel) and got a Faxon Gunner barrel, gas system, etc.  The DAY after I got the Faxon barrel, the Mk12 barrel showed up.  I'd already built the gun, but stripped the upper and pulled the Faxon barrel, installed the BA Mk12 barrel.  The Faxon GUnner barrel hadn't even been shot, at that point.

So, "the plan" was already there...  Build a light(er) 18" Grendel eventually, since I knew the Mk12-ish gun was gonna be a pig.

I forgot about work I'd done for a guy, on an engine, and he was to pay me in guns, through my Gun Pusher.  Last week I hit up my Gun Pusher, just to hang out, and he says, "You know, you have a gun coming to you - what the hell you want?"  BAM.  Answer - gimme some parts to finish off a light(er) 18" Grendel.  I snatched the AP upper, ERGO 12" rail, and some other stuff.

Before, I was about 60% there.  Now, I'm about 90% there.  Here's where it went:

Stay tuned - I need to get this thing out of the way so I can get busy on that .260 Remington...

I just need to get some shiit out of my road, so I can get this damn .260 done.  THAT rifle is a monkey on my back, and I need to whip Matt Cross' ass this fall with it.

Did he tell you he's enrolled and shooting in local PRS competitions?  Hell no, he didn't say anything - he's trying to keep it a secret!  :laffs:

Shady.  Just shady, I'm sayin'...

^^^  Just pulled that thing for it, and a "new" trigger to test out.  Have never, ever seen anyone talk about this trigger, so I chanced it, and got it.  I'll let y'all know about it as soon as it comes in next week.  Might be a real winner, if it lives up to its hype, when we're short on the $99 LaRue triggers, and can't get them.  This thing was $113. Then again, it might suck.   I'll keep you posted, soon.

I keep coming back to stare at this sexiness....

Maybe I'm gun-polyamorous and never knew it until now.

Also, I know you think I missed it, but I recognize that lower and trigger guard.....?️‍♀️

That lower came from a good friend, in trade for another lower...  :hail:

This ^^^  cracks me up...   :lmao:

It's done, minus a few small pieces here and there.  I need a Seekins bolt catch, lock plate and lock ring for the receiver extension. I don't have any idea how I ran out of those things...

This is what it is. I'm stripping it now to paint it - probably my best paintjob yet.  Paint pics up here tonight.

Weighs 7.27 lbs as it sits, unloaded.

Cerakote base coat is baking now.  Comes out in an hour, gets cooled and assembled, then the top coat goes on and gets finished.

It's 100 degrees here, with 8% humidity, so it might as well be a "painting weekend."  There's alot more that's getting painted this weekend.  This damn rifle is gonna take all day, today, though.  Paint + Beer = Take your time and do it right.

"Antiqued" the hell out of this, with a base coat of FDE, full bake, then another coat of 2/3 Burnt Bronze and 1/3 Black (I should have gone darker, for the effect).  Quick bake, to get it tacky. Bring it out, rough it up, blow it off with compressed air, and back in for the full bake again.

This took all damn day,for this thing, with the initial Acetone soak and the bake for flash-off, before the first paint and bake.  The lighting outside now sucks, and camera flash doesn't do this justice.  It's BadFuckinAss, all the way.

Now, to put it back together again and level the scope for final...

It's done.  When I got the Ergo rail, it's black - and comes with black top pic rail ladder and three M-Lok rail inserts. I immediately thought, "Fuk, gotta get the brown ones." Now,I don't know.  I kinda like them.  Was gonna get some Cerakote air-dry C-Series and paint the scope - but now I don't know.  Kinda like it.

I think it might stay this way.

Bitchy Cat HAD to get in there and check it all out, as SOON as I laid it down. She's a bitch, and wouldn't move, so she's in the pic.  If it says anything about her, she kicks Tacticat's a$s once in awhile - and he's the Dog-Eater...   She's tough.  I almost want to hate her...

I'll get better pics of this gun in the morning, when the morning light is better...  pics inside with flash just don't do it justice...
