  1. Yeah. I put a Jard Inc 1.5 pound trigger into the AR15 lower, and threw my CMMG dedicated 22lr upper on. Works just fine with the slidefire stock.
  2. I just got the notion to see if it's possible to throw a standard AR15 diameter buffer & tube onto a DPMS AP4 308, so that I can mount a slidefire stock... Is it possible????
  3. Well, it was sold as "new" since it had never had a 4473 filled out before. Brand new in box, just been sitting for a few years. I already know I HATE the 1975 Brazilian ammo, but there's only about 100 rounds or so, so I'm just going to use it to break this rifle in. Probably just shoot into the dirt for the majority of the time, once I get the sights zeroed for 100 yards.
  4. 2009 manufacture DPMS AP4 308. Bastards at the shop wouldn't let me pick a newer model, so I got stuck with a 5 series serial number. So I'm probably going to be running into the extractor, overgassing, and tight chamber issues. Any other issues I should know about? I installed the YHM QD silencer mount last night, and will be taking it out to break in/test fire this afternoon. I'll be swapping the flash hider type QD mount for a Brake YHM QD mount in the future (as the brake acts as a secondary blast baffle), but with 6-8 months to wait on my Form 4 to clear, no real hurry. It's a heavy rifle, so recoil won't be bad. I suppose I could order the brake early, just to make it obnoxiously loud in the meantime... When I took it apart after getting it home, it was DRY! So I completely disassembled it, oiled everything, and played with it, moving the bolt back and forth until everything moved freely. I then reassembled, and cycled it about 100 times, to further break it in. So I get to go through the long, bring process of firing one round, then cleaning, for 25, then every ten for 100 rounds. I have a bunch of old surplus brazilian M80 ammo I plan to use. Got it in a trade, and didn't want it in the first place, and my Tikka T3 Tactical 308 doesn't like it much. I plan to use PRVI 145/147 grn ball ammo as the regular food, as it shoots sub MOA in the Tikka. I'll see what some heavy PRVI match ammo does, as well. I was told by a few guys on here with the same LR308, that they shoot sub moa with the PRVI ball in their AP4s, so I'm optimistic. Now I just have to wait on Midwest Industries to release the DPMS compatible 308 free float tubes, and install an adjustable gas block, both for the silencer, and for overgassing. 5. I did notice that Troy sells a DPMS barrel nut, I believe for their TRX rail systems... Perhaps I can make it work with a Midwest Industries Gen 2 SS tube???? Hmmmmmm.... Looks like I'd have to either sand down, or turn down the grooves... But it just might work... The main question is whether or not the MI tube is the correct height... Thanks for the links, guys!
  6. I have a Midwest Industries 15 inch Gen 2 SS free float tube, with top rail, and railed sections on my 5.56 AR, and love it. Unfortunately, as of right now, MI doesn't make any 308 free float tubes, or a barrel nut that will work with the Gen 2 SS tube (as far as I know) Is a standard AR15 thread barrel nut the same as a DPMS 308? Anyway, what are my options for a free float tube, with a top rail? Ideally, I'd like something 10 inches or longer. I know Troy makes some stuff, but haven't really heard anything good about them...
  7. Sweet! This is good news for me. Have you done any customization? Planning to?
  8. Which DPMS do you have, that you're sub MOA with ball?
  9. Good to know. Guess I'll stick with what I've got...
  10. I've got a DPMS 16 inch AP4 on layaway right now, but when I went in to the shop, I saw that they had an 18 inch CMMG Mk3 on the shelf. There's a possibility I could swap the layaway, and end up getting the CMMG. With the free float handguard that comes with the CMMG, I wouldn't have to spend the 200+ extra to customize the DPMS, remove the sight post, and install a handguard. So the price equals out. Since they both use SR25 pattern magazines, I wouldn't have any issues there. It just looks like the fit and finish on the CMMG are nicer. I'm not sure I like the lack of a forward assist, though. Not that I NEED a forward assist, but it just looks weird without it... I plan on mounting the "iron" backup sights at a 45 degree angle, so that I can use a high magnification scope on top, similar to what's commonly done in 3 gun. Which one is better for accuracy? How's the reliability on the CMMG? I heard they had a problem with gas port size at one point? Thanks
  11. Unless SilencerCo releases their 30 cal can anytime soon, which I doubt (they haven't even brought their 5.56 Saker to market yet) It looks like their design will attach to an AAC mount. I have decided on the AAC 7.62 SDN6, with QD capability. It will work on both my DPMS, and on my bolt rifle, as well as my 5.56 AR15s. Now, will I need an adjustable gas block, once I suppress the DPMS AP4? i've heard both yea, and nay answers.
  12. You're welcome. Thanks for the support. What are good options for a muzzle brake? I'm leaning toward an AAC 51 tooth QD brake, simply due to the fact that I plan to put on a silencer. But it WOULD be fun to get a ridiculously obnoxious brake as well, just to piss people off with the noise... Thoughts?
  13. 8 years Army, got a job with a company that does standby confined space rescue at industrial sites. I normally work at a local power plant.
  14. thanks for the info. If I come up with the money someday, I'd like to put on an ACOG of some sort.
  15. Saw a few references to this site through AR15.com, figured I'd check it out. I just put a DPMS LR 308 AP4 Carbine on layaway yesterday. Apparently, it's somewhat older, as it has an A2 backup sight, rather than a removeable carrying handle. Still new in box, though. Which is perfecty fine with me, as it allows me to mount optics, and still have a backup sight. I'm not sure if I want to go with an Aimpoint, like I have on my other AR platforms, as I'd kind of like to shoot further than 300 yards. If I mount an actual scope, I'll probably have to go with a different backup sight, that I can collapse. Any thoughts on a decent scope for around $500? I have a KonusPro 8.5-32x50 on my 50BMG, and have been impressed with its performance. I'd like a scope that I can turn down to zero magnification, for shooting courses, but still turn up to 9 or 10 for longer distances. A Vortex 1-4x would work, but 4x isn't much magnification for longer range. Also, I've heard that I might need to get the chamber polished? Any other issues I should know about?
