Here it is all done. I'm taking it out next weekend for the first time. I added a free float tube, AFG, and a bipod. I already had the scope. Awesome!

Thank you for the replies! I will start looking around for some Bushmaster or DMPS rifles used or new in my area and online. I would like to have a quad rail and also replace the stock and I have started doing research on this and it seems very doable as long as I confirm compatibility with whatever rifle I end up with.

All, Hello! I am new to 308ar.com - this looks like a great resource! Several of my friends have AR rifles in various calibers and I would like to join them at the range and with their AR hobby. I am not willing however to spend an endless amount of money (which I'm pretty sure they are doing :) ) because I am in the middle of doing that with other hobbies... I prefer .308 because I could use the rifle for white tailed deer hunting here in Michigan. .223 doesn't offer me much in terms of use other than target shooting. I don't hunt varmints or coyote. So my question to the forum is what brand is a decent but affordable brand to start with? Would mixing uppers and lowers together be effective and even less expensive? Should I be looking at the used market and if so what brands? Thanks for your time! - Josh
