  1. The Winchester and Federal did fine, but they weren't grouping like the Hornady. Round count I can't confirm because I bought the gun used, but it honestly didn't look like it had been shot at all really. A buddy owns the gun shop and he said the previous owner bought it and put it in his safe. The overall round count is low for sure, I've only put around 60 rounds through it. As far as what the SST does to game, I hope I find out. Been a slow season thus far!
  2. Ok, just got back in town and had a chance to check out your replies. I'm going to give the suggestions a shot and report back. Kind of tough to shoot alot right now because I sight my rifles where I hunt and the big boys don't like alot of gun fire! ;D I did pick up some Mobil 1 to soak my BCG in to help with lubricity. I don't have it running too wet right now so I'll immediately give it a bit more lube prior to my next trip out. I'll let you know how it goes.
  3. Sure have, shot 7.62x51 surplus ammo and it would eject fine, but had trouble feeding the next round. I know these barrels can be tight from what I've read so I moved to .308 since I was going to hunt with that anyway. Shot several Winchester loads and some Federal before settling on the Hornady. Noticed sluggish ejection with the Hornady, but as I said it is spot on accurate and feeds just fine.
  4. Ok, you guys were a great resource when I was looking at triggers so I thought I'd bounce another one off of you. Since I'm using my gun mainly for hunting I decided to just start running standard .308 hunting cartridges. I went through a several different brands before I settled on Hornady Superformance 150 grn SST. It is really nice and accurate with that round. However, it really doesn't eject these very well. The box says these are 3000fps rounds, not sure how that compares to surplus 7.62x51 rounds, but when I fire the Hornady's they eject clear and allow the next round to cycle fine but it literally ejects the casing just a couple of inches away from the gun, they almost just roll out. No FTE or FTF's, but it doesn't seem right. Is it just the round or is there possibly another issue? Maybe the gas tube isn't blocked well? Let me know your thoughts. As I've mentioned before I'm new to this platform and learning so your insight is greatly appreciated.
  5. Thanks for all the replies guys. I actually settled on the Timney trigger set up at 4lbs. I liked that it came as a drop in assembly which should be reasonable for me to put in. Once I get it in I'll post on how it performs. I may actually look into the RRA or even possibly a trigger job for my .556 based on the comments related to those solutions. I appreciate all of the advice. I'm new to this platform and your comments are a huge help.
  6. Thanks for the reply. Should have specified that I'm not too concerned with price, just looking for a nice smooth, crisp pull for deer hunting.
  7. I've been reading the other threads and looking at triggers for my LR308 Oracle. I found a decent deal at a local gun shop and bought the gun pretty stock. 18" barrel, collapsable stock, etc. I want to get it dialed in for long range shooting as well as hunting but I need to do it one piece at a time as I'm sure many of you can relate. The main thing that I'm unable to tolerate as far as accuracy is concerned is the trigger. Never have shot a two stage trigger, but my gut tells me single stage may be better for me since this is a hunting rig and that's the style trigger I'm used to in long guns. If you have an opinion let it fly and thanks in advance for your help.
  8. Awesome pics. Just set up a LR308 Oracle myself. It's currently stock with a Nikon 4x12x40 BDC on it. The trigger needs some work, did you put a new one in yours? I'd also love to know what kind of barrel you slapped on that thing. Hope to put down a few whitetail with mine here soon.
