A quick review on the JP Enterprise adjustable gas block. JP Enterprises Adjustable Gas Block.pdf
-
I used a SI Defense matched upper and lower on my last build and the quality is first rate. I had zero problems during the build and have had zero problems with the build out at the range. So since I'm a treat me right and give me a good product kinda person I would go with the SI Defense. Just my 2 cents

Sorry for those that had asked for a review on certain components of my build that I haven't gotten to yet. I've been getting swamped by my business and everytime I try to get out to the range some pulls me back in. With that said I will be going to the range either Monday or Tuesday to do some shooting dang it. Once I get the data compiled and sorted out I'll post it asap.

I made up a quick review on the Precision Armament M11 muzzle brake. Please ignore my grammatical errors. Precision Armament.pdf

I'm working on doing some reviews on some of the different parts of my build. I typed the review up in Microsoft Word, but am having trouble copying it or even attaching it to a post. Can someone help me out with this please?

This post pushes beyond the topic of my initial post. It has be a long project but thanks to all of your help it has been very fun and informative. I have not only completed my rifle but just got it back from the paint shop with a fresh coat of Cerakote. I have tried to keep a pictographic log of the build through its different stages. So here it is gents let me know what you think of it. I will be taking it out Monday to tune in the gas block reguardless of what the New Hampshire weather throws at me. I will also be working on a series of reviews on some of the different parts as well as a winter and summer review of about 8 different types of match grade ammo.

Vortex Razor vs Bushnell vs SWFA SS
crazybull replied to Gregrachelle's topic in Optics & Mounts, BUIS,Sights
I picked up one of the SWFA SS HD 5-20X50 a few weeks ago to go on my build. I haven't taken it out yet as the rifle is being cerakoted rightnow but as far as its quality its top notch. I don't think the glass is quite as crisp as the Razor HD but it is almost $500 cheaper also. Though the SS HD may not be as crisp as the Razor HD it allows more then plenty of light through and the colors are very accurate. I actually like the reticle pattern in it. I like the way the diamonds allow more precise measurments. This is just my 2 cents though -
Thx Unforgiven, I'm pretty excited to get it back from the cerakoter so that I can mount my optics on it and get it out to the range for some shooting. Since its going to be out for about 5 weeks I'm taking the time to put together a selection of different match ammo to do some testing with it.
-
Well here it is I completed it a few days ago and just dropped it off with a friend of mine that does Cerakoting. I'm going to have him uniform the black on it so that theres not a dozen different shades of black and of course match the barrel also. Once I get it back in about 5 weeks I'll post an updated pic.

Once I get it all together I'll post some pics. but right now FEDEX is pissing me off. The last of my stuff was suppose to be delivered Saturday. Come sunday morning and no visit from santa I checked the tracking online and all it said was N/A. Today is Monday and still nothing according to FEDEX their home delivery service is only open Tuesday - Saturdays. So with some luck come tomorrow I'll have my loot and I can get this thing together for we start getting to much snow for me to want to go to the range.

When you say pins what are you refering to? This is my first build so sorry if this is something I'm suppose to know.
-
Ok, I've got almost all my parts in the last bit that I'm waiting for should be delivered today sometime. I also want to say good call on the charging handle Robo that thing is a beast. I order it and Monday the company owner called me up just to confirm that my upper is compatible with it (got to love customer service like that, we ended up just chatting for about half and hour and to top it off he's located in my state so I'm helping local businesses).

Good to go on the stock.

Great review on the Mech Armor Defense charging handle. I just put one on order and will be contacting Brownells to see about returning the BCM charging handle. What about the rest of the stuff on my list?
-
I'll take a look at the Mech Armor Defense "TacOps-1" but for the BCM gunfighter with respect to a large scope will it make a difference that I will be doing one handed manipulation with my left hand that and I have some small mitts? Also is the Phase 5 Extended Bolt Release better then the MagPul BAD leaver? It certainly looks better built.

Ok so I’ve finally gotten all the parts together for my AR-308 build and this is what the pile looks like. Let me know if I’ve missed something or if you’ve had experience with an item and would like to point something out. Upper and lower receiver: SI Defense matched set Barrel: 20 inch Rainier Arms Ultra match Hand guards: Apex rifle length system w/appropriate rail mounts BCG: 762 Industries Nickel Boron match grade BCG Gas block: JP Enterprise stainless (black) adjustable gas block Muzzle brake: Precision Alignment M11 w/accu-washer alignment system Charging handle: Mech Armor Defense TacOps-1 (I was going with the BCM medium gunfighter but after reading Robocops review on the Mech Armor Defense TacOps-1 it was a no brainer which one I was going with.) Stock: Magpul Gen 2 PRS (7.62) Grip: Hogue rubberized A2 (I went with this over grips with palm rest because the palm rest just didn't feel right that and due to the size of my hands didn't provide a benefit aside from something flat to rest on the ground.) Trigger: DPMS National match 2 stage Gas tube: Rifle length nitromet gas tube Bipod: Atlas Precision Optics: SWFA SS HD 5-20X50 Standard equipment: forward assist, ejection port cover, buffer and buffer spring, DPMS standard butt stock extension tube, DPMS steel 20 round magazine.

I'm in the process of building a 308 AR using an SI Defense upper and lower. What do I need to know and look out for in terms of compatibilty for lower parts kits. I was looking at this http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=1762 But am unsure as to if it will work in this build or not. Are there other things I need to consider parts wise also?
-
I've been working on a parts list so here it is tell me what you think and what I'm missing. I am a little lost on some of the barrel components and stock. 1. Rainier 18" match barrel 2. Seekins precision compensator 3. Rainier free floating rail system (RA10-X11) 4. Armalite AR10 lower parts kit w/ 2 stage NM trigger 5. SI Defense nickel boron bolt carrier group 6. Rainier raptor charging handle I know I'm missing the stock and its hardware, the gas system, and the barrel nuts and delta rings. I'm lost on these items and suggestions are welcomed

I will most likely pick up some more tools as I find out what my mechanical limitations are (bang square peg through round hole). For me this is a pretty ambitious project but I love the 308 and the AR platform. I thank you all for your advice and look forward to your thoughts and ideas as of rightnow I guess this is no longer my build but a community build. I most certainly will post pics as I get it together and hopefully it will result in a quality firearm (as long as I do my part).
-
I haven't thought that far ahead and I know that I should already have a parts list together but to be honest I'm having to learn as I go. I will most likely go with a free floating hand guard.
-
Thanks Robo, you just saved me about $80 to $100 worth of un-needed tools! I just orderd the other stuff from Midway as Brownells didn't have everything (saving on shipping). After the receivers come in and all the tools arrive I'll start shopping for a lower parts kit. I will most likely buy the trigger seperate from the lower parts kit I would like to get a 2 stage and will have to put back my hobbing $$ to get one.
-
Here is a list of tools I'm looking to get. Barrel nut alignment gauge Pivot pin detent installation tool Take down tool Hammer and punch set Roll pin punch set Roll pin starter punch Roll pin holder Lower receiver vise block Upper receiver vise block what else should I get to get started on the build from a tool stand point?
-
I have an SI Defense match upper and lower on order and was planning on using either the rainier 18" match or the rainer 18" select. I'm still fuzzy on parts and will be taking that all one step at a time. The lower parts kit that I was looking at was CMMG parts kit with 2 stage trigger. I do have hex wrenches, vise and hammer with a brass and nylon head. I also will be ordering an upper and lower receiver vise block. The thing I'm most unsure of is the different punches that I will need for the roll pins and pivot pins. There are some tools covered in the book that I'm also unfimilar with such as the magazine latch tool and roll pin holders. I also don't have machinist drills bits (the ones that use numbers as opposed to the fractional system) but I do have a good set of colbalt and titanium drill bits. I'm not in a huge hurry to get it together but would like to break ground soon. Also if you have any parts advice toss it out to me. My plan is to take my time and do it right.

I'm planning on building a tactical sniper rifle with an 18" barrel. I did pick up "The competitive AR15 : Builders Guide" by Glen Zediker and it seems pretty good so far. It does list some tools you need but I'm afraid that since they are for the AR15 that they are the wrong sizes or what not. Will the same tools that work for the AR15 also work to put together a 308 version (aside from the vise blocks of course)?
