  1. I exchanged e-mails with Lisa from Apex Machining yesterday. She confirmed that their rail will work on the LAR 8. The barrel nut will have to be modified by removing the second row of teeth.
  2. Well, the SS rail is due to arrive Tuesday. I'll look it over but I'm pretty certain I'll be sending it back. I wish I'd seen the Apex prior to placing an order. Robo, how does the weight of the 15" tube compare to the 12.5?
  3. Thanks Robo but I'm unable to get that dimension. Using both hands to hold the d-ring back left me one short to run the caliper :) . The nut has what appears to be standard AR15 dimensioned teeth at the front but there's a step up with a second set of larger diameter teeth about .25 inches behind it. Jon, I thought the threads were like the AR10. Do you know if the external dimensions are similar? (Does it have the funky second set of splines as described above?) The Apex has a two piece clam shell type attachment that bolts around the existing nut and if the Rock River nut is externally similar to the Armalite I think it will work.
  4. The Rainier site lists Armalite and DPMS versions. Has anyone used this rail on the LAR 8? I have a 20" Standard A4 and if the Apex will fit my barrel nut I could just cut the delta ring off. There's a Midwest Industries Gen 2 SS rail en route to me but it requires you to use their barrel nut. The Apex appears to have a sturdier mounting solution. Also, the Apex is available in a 15" version while the SS-Series only comes in 12". That will leave about a .75 inch gap between the rail and gas block. Thanks in advance for any feedback y'all can offer. Kaleb
  5. Thanks for the welcome all. Unforgiven, I've had a UTE2 for a number of years. Based on its reliability I was comfortable picking up the LAR 8
  6. Birmingham here. Passed through Troy before but never had cause to stop.
  7. Hi all. I picked up a Rock River LAR 8 Standard A4 about 5 months ago. Got it for a price I couldn't pass up not realizing how proprietary the RRA design is. Also, initially thought that its use of FAL mags was a plus until the recent insanity. Got almost 500 mostly flawless rounds through it so far and have been impressed with the accuracy using my loads. Hoping bipod groups will improve after floating the barrel. Thanks to all for the info I've gleened while lurking. I'm looking forward learning more!
