  1. I've also come across in my search for a barrel a company called McGowen Precision Barrels. They do pull button rifling on all their barrels and for a 18" SS 308 barrel it's $245 and an extra $35 if you want it fluted. Just my 2 cents
  2. That was kind of my point, if it's not necessary then why do the majority of manufactures put one on there? I guess the idea of I'd rather have it and not need it then need one and not have it! Comes to mind but I was actually most curious if they really worked with the BCG being smooth. 98Z5V took care of that though.
  3. Wow, I feel like a dumbass! Thanks for setting me straight I knew this would be the place to ask the question. The guys on this forum are pretty good at helping out when you got technical questions thanks again.
  4. So I've been searching for the best deal on a upper/lower receiver set to get my next build started off right.I'm leaning toward the SI Defense Gen II (wish it was a low profile design), but thats a whole other subject. It seems like every receiver I've looked at all have a forward assist port, but none of the BCG I've seen for the 308 have the gills/teeth on the sides for the forward assist pin to engage into. So why have one? Why not just have a shell deflector and call it good. So now im gonna have to buy a extra part to fill a hole that has no purpose. It seems kinda dumb to me. You would think the companies who make and design the receivers would have thought of this! Or am I missing something here. Any one out there with some info or if any of you guys have a valid reason please fill me in. I consider myself a smart guy, but there's no way im the only one who's thought about this. Thanks for letting me rant about it.
  5. Thanks robo I guess I'll stick with my original plan and go With SI Defense!
  6. I'm planning on building my rifle around their new gen 4 308 receiver set! I've read some reviews that have me second guessing going with SI Defense . I read some good reviews that guys were just stoked with their receiver fit and quality! And then there are some bad reviews with different fit issues, machining flaws, and just overall bad finish quality, but all the reviews were 2-3yrs old! Has any one bought one recently or have any experience with SI Defense. I have heard nothing but good things about Mega Arms and Black Rain Ordnance Receivers but they are around $150-200 more and with the build price already getting over 2k any where I can save money I'd like too! Any info would be great thanks
  7. I'm also just getting a build going and the most promising barrels I've seen for a reasonable price are from Rainier Arms! They are selling match grade SS barrels for $300- 350. From the research I've done they get the barrels from Black Hole Weaponry! You should definitely go check out their Web site th sey are doing some new 3 groove poly-aganol rifling supposed to be super accurate! That's just what I've read and found out for myself but like I said I'm new to the 308AR platform!
  8. I guess one more question! So is the buffer supposed to bottom out in the tube is that why you can't use a car buffer in rifle tubes? I guess I was under the impression the spring caught the buffer that's why I was originally thinking it was the weight was the main thing to worry about not the length.
  9. Is that the spring the heavy buffer will come with?
  10. Ok thanks so I need a rifle buffer not a car. And the A1 and A2 tubes are the ame the A2 just comes with a spacer which isn't needed for the PRS I'm planning on using. Now the heavy buffers are right around a 100 which is only 30 more between the buffer and spring I was planning on. Should I go wih the standard AR-10 spring in the kit or any one had good results with the tubb cs flat wire springs?
  11. I'm new to the 308 world and I'm building my first 308AR. I think I've gone through and picked out some great parts but I'm still just a bit confused on the whole buffer set up! Here's what I'm working with SI Defense gen 4 receiver set, Rainier arms 20" S.S. match grade barrel, RA NiB BCG, Troy LP gas block (rifle length) magpul PRS, A2 buffer tube, tubb CS flat wire spring, and a Spikes tactical ST-T2 carbine buffer which weighs 4.3 Oz! I've ordered most of the parts but I didn't want to waste the time or money on the buffer assembly if it's not going to work! Any input would be greatly appreciated thanks.
