  1. Thanks. Is there some way to turn on a BB code editor in lieu of the WYSIWYG editor? Manually embedding the images and links will be pretty time consuming.
  2. I don't know which mod to PM, your site lists 19 users in the staff directory without a clue as to who does what. I'm not demanding anything. I've repeatedly asked for help. For reference, here is every time I've asked in chronological order: "The OP is in need of an update, but I can't do it. Can a mod assist, or maybe unlock the post for me?" - 4/1/15 "OP really needs updated, and I think it really belongs here. Can a mod help with this? I can't edit the OP." - 5/6/15 "My OP is getting out of date and I'd really like to make some updates but I can't because the forum won't let me. Would appreciate some help!" - 2/24/16 "I really wish a mod or admin would assist me in updating the OP, or getting it to a better place where it can be kept up-to-date. The market changes on a monthly basis." - 8/23/16 It sounds like everyone with the power to make changes is apathetic, so maybe this forum isn't the best place to curate this info.
  3. Look, it's a tech topic. You guys had an issue with (apparently one, from the sound of things?) dude and decided to punish everyone. Great move! I picked this place to curate this info. As you've pointed out, I don't post here often. In fact this is the only thread I've ever posted in on this board. Again, you could use your power to help me make the OP the best reference for this info out there or you can keep doing what you're doing.
  4. That's going to be tough, since I can't even get the BB code of my OP.
  5. I don't know about anyone else, but I've linked a few people to this thread when they told me they were interested in building up an AR-10 clone. It'd be easier without the caveat "oh and make sure you read the *whole* thread because the big long OP is out of date." That caveat will only get worse the longer this thread gets.
  6. Wow, great attitude. You could have used your power to help me update the OP, but instead you bring cursing and insults to a tech forum. Do you want me to go away?
  7. They're making both. https://www.facebook.com/magpul/photos/a.123103551035336.20722.123085681037123/1237640172914996/?type=3 Updating the OP is important so we can have all the info in one place - I'm not a member of another forum that has this silly lockout feature.
  8. You read wrong. I didn't say the new Magpul receiver extension is for the DPMS system, I just pointed out that they're referring to it as their SR25/M110 model even though the SR25 has been equipped with both the DPMS and Armalite style systems. The M110 on the other hand is only equipped with the Armalite style system when it has a collapsible stock or has been upgraded with one. My OP clearly states that the Armalite system is longer than the DPMS, go read it. As far as what Magpul has put out there on this new receiver extension, not only do they have photos out there that show it with their new standard AR15 receiver extension (also released today) that clearly show this extension is longer, but their website which I linked to says the following: "Due to its longer length, this receiver extension is compatible with most DPMS® Gen 1 pattern 7.62x51 firearms with standard length AR15/M4 carbine buffer components as well as aftermarket A5 buffers and springs for use on 5.56x45 AR15/M4 platforms.* " It's clearly an Armalite style receiver extension in terms of length. The bit about the LAR 8 and BAR 10 is also covered in my OP - they have an even longer action stroke than regular AR10/LR308 guns.
  9. I see Magpul just released a ten position receiver extension for the Armalite style system - they refer to it as the SR25/M110 model even though the SR25 has also been equipped with the DPMS style system. Link I really wish a mod or admin would assist me in updating the OP, or getting it to a better place where it can be kept up-to-date. The market changes on a monthly basis.
  10. That works for now, but a year down the road that info will be out of date again - then what? At some point there will be ten threads, each more outdated than the last.
  11. My OP is getting out of date and I'd really like to make some updates but I can't because the forum won't let me. Would appreciate some help!
  12. Can add the MagPul Fixed Carbine Stock (FCS) to the list of stocks that fit on a Vltor A5 tube. Just bought one for a KISS 3-gun build and it fit over the A5 like it didn't know the extra 3/4" was there. I assume it would fit over the RE-10/A5SR and ArmaLite-style 6-pos tubes as well, but I don't have an example to test. What could make it incompatible is that it has a clamp closer to the receiver end of the tube that holds it on, and it would have to engage the extended bottom part of the tube. That part of the tube doesn't come as close to the receiver on ArmaLite tubes as on A5 tubes. OP really needs updated, and I think it really belongs here. Can a mod help with this? I can't edit the OP.
  13. PSA is selling their buffer tube separately now for $19.99 (!) PSA PA10 Buffer Tube The OP is in need of an update, but I can't do it. Can a mod assist, or maybe unlock the post for me?
  14. VLTOR Pistol tube appears to be in stock, now. Also, Leapers/UTG have jumped into the ring with this, which will be the cheapest option available: TLU002
  15. Yeah, seems like a pretty easy part to make. They had a bunch of them on display at SHOT at least.
  16. Do you mean this? Looks like they're using a DPMS style buffer in that one, interesting. I wonder if it got put on hold thanks to the brouhaha over the Sig brace? It was actually introduced last year apparently. They told me on Facebook that it would be out shortly. Those kinds of promises don't always pan out... It's not on their site, what is it? If it's not ArmaLite/A5 length, it's not really relevant to this thread. Standard AR-15 length pistol buffer tubes are ubiquitous.
  17. VLTOR now has a pistol-style A5 extension, but I can't figure out how to edit the OP. Is editing disabled after a certain amount of time or am I just lost? RE-PA5: VLTOR A5 Pistol Tube
  18. Can anyone think of any other rifle lines that need added to either carbine stock category?
  19. The QMS is great for the parts bin, indeed. I have one and it's superb for what it is, but I'm just spoiled on Geissele two stage triggers. They completely ruined me. Thanks for the info, I'll update the OP.
  20. Their factory rifles honestly aren't bad value. But just knowing I got a $200 receiver extension and a $60 trigger vs. a $45 receiver extension and a $215 trigger would always nag me. Can you confirm that the receiver extension is one of the variety that doesn't let open-back stocks over collapse, nor extended stocks fully collapse? The response I got back from PWS was "our customers haven't complained." Real helpful guys, way to not answer my question.
  21. For $200 I can be bothered to bust out the castle nut wrench. That's crazy talk.
  22. Added PWS stuff to the OP. Good god, that is an expensive receiver extension.
  23. I would agree that the slight difference in port location is just that, but I have yet to read anything comparing gas port sizes, which are crucial and can vary quite a bit between manufacturers. Why make an assumption and put it out there as fact? Probably because DPMS parts can tend to suck? I also tend to avoid DPMS parts. My experience with the ArmaLite EA1095 spring is good and the spare I purchased for my rifle build is also an EA1095. Sounds like Slash has good advice. How do you know that for sure (chicken/egg argument) and what difference does it make? Are you sure ArmaLite didn't specify a new spring for the rifle when they started doing carbines? Maybe DPMS patterned their spring after the original ArmaLite spring and ArmaLite changed theirs... Regardless the springs are different, no matter how we got here. I really don't want to fill my post full of conjecture. This is exactly why I chose to go with the ArmaLite style system. I am also a fan of the A5 system, all of my AR-15's have one. While I have no data to back it up, I'm very suspicious of the DPMS design and I suspect the ArmaLite design is the superior of the two.
  24. In any event, my original post doesn't say one way or the other on interchangeability between brands for the springs. The springs are bound to be different in small ways, and the differences can be a good thing if you are looking to tune your rifle without the aid of adjustable gas. I wish I knew which springs were heavier, how the cyclic rate would be affected, and so on. But I don't, and I also won't make the claim that two different manufacturers of a spring for a platform that has no standard are "identical" as you assert in your first post.
