  1. I also have a P-TAC Lower, I haven't finished the build yet, but am happy with the finish and feel of it. I bought a PA-10 upper and BCG, everything functions correctly by hand so far. I have a friend who has built several of the PA-10 and P-TAC 308's and as long as you stick with PSA/P-TAC for the upper and lower, the rest of your parts will be DPMS style. The proprietary LPK items are covered in their PSA PA10 Upgrade kit. http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-10/ar-10-lower-parts/psa-pa10-upgrade-kit.html If you already have a DPMS style LPK, purchase this kit and you will be able to use all of the remaining items of your LPK. There have been some issues regarding some aftermarket FCG, but from my understanding very little "fitting" is required to make this work correctly. Just google Geissele and PSA PA-10, and you will find several threads regarding this. I also would not be happy to take a file to my brand new $200-$300 FCG, but it can and will fit. I will know more as I finish this build, and will update everyone on my findings as I progress. This will never be considered a high end precision rifle, but I have bolt guns for that. I wanted a budget friendly Semi Auto 308 to punch holes at 500+ yards. With the correct scope and barrel I think I will be able to achieve that.
  2. The replacement Promags showed up in less than a week, and fit and function correctly.
  3. I ended up ordering the following from www.leesmags.com. Shipping was reasonable and I had them in my hands in 2 days. http://www.leesmags.com/category-s/121.htm?searching=Y&sort=9&cat=121&show=30&page=2 14590586 ASC DPMS LR 308 5 round magazine 2 $14.00 13364154 Magpul 7.62 308 Win 20 RD DPMS LR 308 magazine GEN3 MAG-291-BLK 2 $15.00 12391198 DPMS LR 308 20 Round Magazine Promag DPM-A1 2 $17.00 The 5 round metal mags and the Magpul 20 round fit and function perfect. I had to beat on the bottom of the metal Promag to get them to latch in the lower. I contacted Promag and they are sending me replacements. I will see how the replacements fit. It looks like he raised his price a bit since I ordered.
  4. Thanks 98 for the link. Have you used any of the Lancer L7AWM magazines?
  5. To the members that recommend the PMAGS, what is the difference between the Gen2 and Gen3? Any issues with the PTAC-10 Lower I have regarding the GEN2 VS GEN3?
  6. Thank you for the replies. I will look at picking up some PMAGS for the 20rd. Any online vendors have the best pricing or shipping? Anyone have any experience with the 5rd or 10 rd metal ones? 7. Thanks Blue & Robo, so what brand and capacity do most people use on their builds?
  8. Thanks Farkle, Good to know. I was just looking at some ASC mags on Gunbroker. I will stay clear.
  9. Plane, I should have mentioned that in the first post. My lower is a PTAC-10, DPMS pattern. Any advantages/disadvantages of polymer vs steel. I am old school I like things made out of steel. <thumbsup>
  10. I have been looking to pick up a few magazines (5 rd, 10 rd, & 20 rd) for my first 308 AR build. I am mostly interested in the metal mags, but not set on it if there is a better option in polymer. I see there several options out there, but wanted to get some opinions on the best money spent. I know with any setup there are good reliable mags and then just plan trash. Thanks in advance. Brian
  11. I was originally looking at a mid gas length, because most of the barrels I found that is what was available. I don’t have a preference of mid vs rifle, either one will be a low profile and covered by the handguard. I just didn’t know what would be better for the 308. I like the sound of smoother recoil and softer impulse though. :sniper:
  12. Thank you Edge for the reply.
  13. Thank you Robocop for the information. To avoid any cycling issues with .308 AR is it best to go with rifle gas over mid?
  14. Thanks for the replies. So what are the benefits of mid or rifle gas? Personal preference or how does it affect the function of the rifle. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I’m a newbie. ::)
  15. Thanks Wash for the quick reply. I actually have browsed through all of their selection, and wasn't sure what the difference between the select and the match as far as good/better/best. As far as specs all I can tell is the select has Polygonal Rifling, 1x11 twist, but cheaper price tag? What's the $40 difference? Will they still headspace your BCG to the barrel if you send it to them? What is the usual lead time? Thanks again
  16. Hello all, 308 AR newbie here. I have done a lot of reading, but this is my first post. I am building my first 308 AR and decided to give PSA a try on components so far. Here is what I have so far PTAC10 .308 Complete lower PSA Upper PSA Nitride BCG I will be using this rifle for long distance plinking and the occasional hunt here in there when I decide I don’t want to use my bolt gun. I am not concerned about weight since I will be in a stand. I am trying to decide between an 18 or 20 inch barrel? Mid or rifle gas block? I would like to find something in the middle of the road regarding quality and price. Thank you in advance
