  1. You make a good point with it being semi auto. I've shot a lot of guns in a lot of different calibers, but never a semi auto 308. I have a Springfield featherweight 308 Bolt action and it kicks like nobodies business. With a heavier rifle and a semi auto action, I'm now thinking it might not be so bad. I went with a cheap rubber snap on recoil pad for my tactical stock just in case, plus it adds a nice little curve to the end. I'll wait and see how the kick is before investing in a brake. I wish the mail came faster so I could post my first range report already!
  2. Got the handguard all figured out and ordered, everything should be here by next Wednesday! I've been looking into muzzle breaks and/or recoil pads, since the hard plastic stock doesn't look like it would be fun behind a 308Win. What option would you guys advise? I'm not a small guy (6'2 185lbs) so recoil doesn't bother me too much, but I wouldn't mind a little less kick.
  3. http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-10/ar-10-upper-assemblies/psa-pa10-18-mid-length-stainless-steel-308-win-1-10-upper-w-bcg-and-charging-handle.html I ordered this last night and I'm going to switch the handguard out ASAP. I've found a few that say they will only fit low profile uppers, and some that only fit non-low profile uppers. Which one is the one I ordered? I don't want to order the wrong one
  4. I was unaware that the 16" could handle 500yds accurately. They have an 18" model with a handguard I really like available here http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-10/ar-10-upper-assemblies/psa-pa10-18-stainless-steel-308-ss15-upper-1-10-w-bcg-and-charging-handle.html Ordered my scope today, and the mount. Next Friday I get my bonus so I'll be ordering the upper. That means only a week until it's fully ordered! I guess that only leaves me with one question for you guys, how do I assemble it? I've taken apart and cleaned pistols and bolt action rifles for years but that's about it. With a complete upper and a complete lower I'm assuming it can't be too hard. The shop here said they would do it for $20, but I'm pretty good with my hands and would assume I could handle it with proper instructions. Thanks for all your help! Can't wait to post a followup picture once it's all together :sniper:
  5. When you say they're not that accurate, what are we talking here? Can it manage sub MOA groups at 100yds? I don't need a super precision rifle, but I'd like to be able to make a clean accurate kill on a whitetail at 300+yds. The longest I ever really shoot is 500yds. So here's my list of must haves for my upper: 20" or 24" Bull barrel (fluted preferably) Free floating hand guard Mounting point for a bipod That's about it. If you were to pick the parts, what would you go with? I really like the look of the PSA upper assembly honestly. I'm a college student so budget is definitely a constraint, so if their upper can meet my needs for the best cost I'm going to go with that. Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it!
  6. Looks like they're out of stock on their uppers right now. I'd like to go with either a 20" or 24" barrel upper... Would it be more cost effective to build my own upper? They have the stripped upper in stock but I'm not sure what all I need in addition to that. I would like to keep it under $600 since that's about what they're selling complete ones for. This is my first AR build so I'm still learning all the stuff that makes them tick.
  7. Hello! This is my first post here so take it easy on me. So I just started my AR10 build! I have ordered a complete lower assembly from Palmetto State available here for reference http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-10/lowers/psa-pa10-308-complete-classic-lower-receiver.html What uppers will fit this lower? Will a DPMS model fit? Thanks for the help, anything is appreciated.
