  1. So, I know there are probably a lot of posts about painting firearms, but most of them I found were for camouflage painting. I don't hunt, I am just an avid recreational shooter, so I don't really have need of camo on my weapons. I am really looking for more customized, unique patterns. I recently spray painted my AR handguards and buttstock in snakeskin pattern, which was my first time painting firearm parts. I had a few hiccups and imperfections, but overall I think it looks pretty cool. I would like to customize some of my other guns in the same manner. It seems like it is the cheapest and easiest way to set your weapon apart from the crowd. I was thinking about water transfer printing (not w/ spray paint, the real deal)but from what I have gathered from members of this forum and other online sources it is very pricey. I was just hoping to get some ideas of how to make some cool unique patterns without having to buy pre-made stencils. I am not much of an artist so making my own stencils is out of the question. I would also like to know what the best spray paint to buy is. I am only planning on painting the furniture on my firearms, for some reason I like to keep all the integral parts of the firearm close to factory original, so I won't be painting my receivers or barrels most likely.
  2. This is the snakeskin pattern I did. I guess if water transfer is so expensive, I will just stick with spray painting.
  3. I recently spray painted a snakeskin design on my DPMS 308 using fishnet material as a stencil. I think it looks ok, but I definitely didn't do the greatest job. I have been thinking about doing some water transfer printing on a few of my firearms, but I have absolutely no experience with it. I would like to know how easy the process is? How long does it take? What equipment is needed? Where is the best place to buy kits? Any other helpful information would be appreciated as well.
  4. Well, I took my JRC out shooting for the first time. All went well, I did have one round that failed to fire. I am not sure what happened, I pulled the trigger and nothing happend, when I inspected the chamber it seemed like the round was in battery but the primer had no strike mark. I ran two mags after that without an issue. Overall it seemed to perform well, but I didn't put many rounds through it because it was cold and windy out.
  5. So, I literally just purchased a Just Right Carbine .45 ACP, 16.75" barrel that uses glock 21 mags . I did my research and read review and such before buying it online , and it seems like they a decent AR style carbine for the price. Just wondering if anyone has had experience with this gun or manufacturer. Possible issues or anything I may not have come across in my searches.
  6. Yeah it's just a compact 4x32, still need to get a riser for it so I can clear the front sight post.
  7. Well, I got the MOE handguards and they went on no problem. I didn't even have to trim the heat shields, I just bent them with a pair of pliers and that gave me enough space to clear the barrel. I love the look of these handguards, very sleek compared to the gaudy look of a lot of railed drop ins and free float tubes.
  8. Thank you all for the input, I ordered some off of Amazon.com. I found that they make a larger model and a slimline model, I went with the older style larger ones, so hopefully that will reduce the amount of modification needed. When I receive them I will post again and let you guys know how it went.
  9. I have heard that sometimes the pmag followers have trouble engaging the bolt catch on some LR 308 models. I would suggest buying a steel magazine and try that before anything else. No need to spend a lot of money replacing different things when it may be simply a mag issue. If you look around for deals you can find deals on steel mags comparably priced to the pmags. Lancer mags are another good option but they are pricey. It seems to me if it was a gas system or buffer/ buffer spring issue you would also be running into FTF (failure to feed) problems. If it was really short stroking for some reason, it would not only happen on the last round in the mag.
  10. I recently purchased the G2 AP4, and I just got out to shoot it for the first time. First impressions, the fit and feel are very nice. It really surprised me how light this rifle is compared to my pig of an M1A, and in being so light the amount of recoil also surprised me as it is much, much less than my standard SAI M1A. I did not really test the accuracy simply because I plan on adding optics shortly, but it seemed to hold good groups with open sights and I am no marksman. I do not really care for the style of the pistol grip as it feels a little akward in hand and the checkering is a bit aggressive for my personal taste, but this is cheap and easy to replace. Overall, this rifle seems to be great quality for the price. I would buy 3 of these before I purchased another M1A. On a side note I have heard over and over again from DPMS detractors that they do not offer chromelined barrels standard on any of there rifles. Now, I can tell you this is simply false, although many of there models do not offer chromelined but rather chrome-moly barrels, they do offer chrome lining as my gun came with a chromelined 16" barrel standard.
  11. Midwest Industries makes drop in HG's specifically for DPMS LR .308 line, if you don't mind paying $140. They make 2 models, one for the oracle and one for the sportical. One or both of which I assume will work with the ap4. Make sure you get the right length i.e. carbine, midlength, rifle.
  12. Are the modifications simple? What part has to be modified? It seems like the only thing that should be a problem is possibly the heat shields. I know for a fact that the factory plastic glacier guard handguards are the exact same between the 5.56 and .308 models.
  13. I have been searching the internet and have sent emails to Magpul and DPMS trying to get a definitive answer to whether or not the MOE (Magpul Original Equipment) drop in handguards will fit on the LR 308 platform. And so far I have yet to find a positive yes or no answer. I know that both DPMS and Bushmaster make an MOE version of the LR 308 line, but I was unsure if you have to buy one specific to 308, which I cannot find, or if it is possible to use the ones designed for the AR 15. If anyone can help answer this, it would be greatly appreciated. I would also like to see pictures if anyone has installed them on their 308.
