  1. The barrel is a 18in mega arms 1/10 twist. Mid length, with a JP adjustable block. I was planning on having the headspace checked tomorrow. Also a fortis muzzle break. If that makes a difference.
  2. That's interesting thank you. I'll swap and see what happens.
  3. From what I can tell the headspace seems fine. However I've been wrong at least once before
  4. I never really good get a good reading on the shells due to poor ejection. Getting stuck in bcg or getting jammed at the exit door. The spent brass was typically scratched, dented or smashed because of the short stroke not being able to properly eject.. I never could the gas system set either. No matter how far I adjusted the gas it never locked back. That I believe was because the buffer was too long and not allowing the bolt to travel far enough. I'm using Hornady Superformance. I will check the gas block alignment.
  5. Good afternoon all, im in need of some help/ information. I finished a 308 build a little while back and finally got the time to shoot. Unfortunately my first go at it was left with disappointment and confusion. The issue I had was short stroking and the bolt getting stuck forward. I think I have the short stroking issues solved has the buffer I was using was to long. I've replaced it with the correct buffer and anxiously awaiting to try it again. However the bolt sticking forward still exists. The problem is once I racked a round and fired I really had to force the charging handle back to eject the shell. I've seen the mortaring videos on how to release the bolt. This is not something I want to do all the time. Why is it doing this? And how do I fix it? I'm using Aero Precision upper and lower along with their nickel boron bcg and a mega arms barrel. Help me understand why this is happening.
  6. Lilja was out of stock when I went to purchase one. Which may have been a good thing. After talking with you all and doing the research I really didn't see the advantages of the 500$ and up barrels. The weight wasn't all the different and twist rate is twist rate as far as I can tell. Long story short I ended up with a 18in Mega match 1/10.
  7. I'm pretty sure my wife would have fit if I started another build right now. Potentially I'll start one with my son after the first of year. But he's getting a cheaper version haha. Daddy gets the good stuff. I just finished it yesterday so I haven't shot it yet and it's killing me. Hopefully this weekend or the first of next week for sure.
  8. Hopefully the ones who wanted to see the finished product will get this. It's been a while in the making but here she is, the finished product of what was rattling around in my head. Thank you all again for the help and support.
  9. What's up guys. Yeah yeah I know it's been a while. I've been slowly working on this project since we last discussed some things. I'll post a pic of where I am so far in a lil bit, and a parts list if interested. However it's barrel time, I'm struggling with what to get. Earlier in the topic I mentioned I was thinking about Lilja 1/11 twist or the Christian Arms Carbon barrel 1/10 twist both 18 in. I'm questioning if these are the best? They are expensive but I don't mind that. As I wanted this to be the best it could be. Accuracy and being dependable is the main goal. Is there anything else better? Now I say I don't mind the cost, but these are probably at the top of my budget for a barrel. Any ideas or experience with these or others?
  10. So how important are muzzle brakes? Is it really nessasary? Do they really add anything to the gun? I guess I feel that if you run an adjustable gas block and heavy buffer kit how bad can the recoil be after that? Are these really just for looks? I'm torn about this one. I've shot the 30.06, .270, 3030 and never had a break. How much wrose can a .308 be? I've never used a break before so i maybe missing out. I don't really wanna deal with noise of one either. I understand the point of getting back on target quickly. But im not shooting Arabs running across a street either. I'm using it for deer and pigs mainly. Help me understand why I need one. I don't really recall seeing pictures of these guns (ar/lr.308) without one. Is it standard that you just gotta get a brake?
  11. I may be hooked your right. And haven't pulled the trigger yet, he'll don't even know what trigger to get much pull one. But is fun so far.
  12. Yeah I think I'll stay away from the flat blade trigger. Here's another question. Any know how the riffle is with 18 in barrel from butt to break?
  13. Ah yes the trigger I had the Geissele Super Dynamic Enhanced Flat Blade Trigger in mind. I'm not completely sure about the flat blade portion of it because I've never shot and it just looks weird. But it seems very smooth and crisp from what I'm reading . Any thoughts on that one?
  14. It's been a variety of distances. Just watched someone at 300 yards with a 7 in group, some other person at 1000 with I believe a 22 or a 24 inch barrel with insanely large group. Now yes yes yes I know 1000 yards has its own demons and that's entirely out of what I'm trying to do. And they could have pushing the limits of the systems they built. On the other hand I've seen some pretty amazing groups 200 and beyond. I know the gun is fully capable at being accurate . I wasn't trash talking anyone by any means. I was just stating I want more that's all. This is my first build so talking bad about others is not my place. I'll try to post a video of what talking about. This forum is also a first for me. I never been on a forum so posting videos I'll have to figure out. Yall have been very helpful and made me feel welcome. And the advice is much appreciated. Oh btw yes I said "yall" I'm from South Carolina and in our dictionary for sure.
  15. Thanks I'll continue my research on the 16in. I'm not so much worried about recoil as I am being accurate. I also figured that the rifle length gas would allow for better accuracy and save the moving parts in the gun. I've watched a ton videos of guys shooting at longer range and being completely happy 6 inch groups. That's not really acceptable for me, and maybe I'm being unreasonable. But I don't think so. That's one of the reasons I chose the more higher end BCG and barrel. But I'll definitely look into Criterion barrel.
  16. Thanks for the welcome from everyone. I chose this platform because I don't own a ton of guns and honestly don't really want to. I figured the .308 in an AR would be the end all be all gun, for me that is. I wanted something that would do everything I want it to in one package. I realize my choice in parts are on the more expensive side but I just need one weapon like this, at this time. Ill probably build a 15 for my son when gets a little older and won't use the high end parts, but daddy gets the good stuff :). Now as far as my choice in barrels and the18in. I want the gun to be consistent at 600 yards and have a short enough swing for hogs on the run. Realistically 98% of the time 0 to 400 yards is the most I'll shoot. So I figured if I build something that would cover 600 yards I would be good. If that can achieved with a 16in barrel I would gladly use that and I would much rather carry a shorter, lighter weapon. I'll take the advice on rifle length gas system and go with that. Thank you for the help and I'm sure I'll have more questions as build comes together. Thank you again for help and the welcome into your world.
  17. Well kind of I'm using Areo Precision upper and lower. The rest of it is still up in the air. I do have a list of parts I just gotta continue my research and figure out going to work the best. Like I said I'm new to AR platform and the AR world is a bit overwhelming. However I will post some pics on here when it's done. If I can get what's in my head to an actual gun I think the AR Community would be proud of this rookie.
  18. Ok guys and gals don't hammer me to much but I have a question. I'm a bow hunter at heart and don't know a whole lot about guns especially AR type systems. However I have a crazy idea to build a .308. I'm excited about it and looking forward to finishing it. My question is "gas sytems" and what to do. Full length or mid gas system. The project is a .308 18in Christensen Arms CA-10 Carbon Barrel or the Lilja 18. I haven't really decided on which one and open to suggestions on barrels to. The gun will be used for a variety of hunting game from deer, hogs, and whatever else steps in front of it.
