  1. Thanks Shepp
  2. Well here she is all buttoned up. Just need to add some lube I imagine and she's ready to go to the range for test fire. I borrowed a friends PA 4-14x42 ffp Mil/mil scope. He just had base rings so that's what's on it. I'm looking at ordering the American defense recon-s mount for it instead. Also planning on picking up a ssae trigger and Harris bipod as well. It's been a long time coming but I'm almost there I can just about smell the gun powder.
  3. No new pictures but just an update I did get it fully assembled. Then tore the bolt down to check head space and we are good to go. Got bolt back together minus ejector. Hoping I can do that today but I may have to order a clamp or tool of some kind to hold it while putting pin in if what I have planned fails. Hoping to use a spent .308 round to apply pressure to ejector. We'll see. Hope everyone is well.
  4. It kinda looks better when I really push on it.
  5. When you slide the gas tube into the gas block should it be an easy fitment or do you need to kinda push it in so the pin holes line up? I'm looking at mine and I can really get it to line up perfectly. I'll upload a photo but it didn't catch the detail I had hoped for. I'm wondering if this is normal or if one of these components is slightly out of spec.
  6. Just gotta figure out what I want for a reticle. The ACSS reticle intrigues me but part of me wants a mil dot reticle to learn on.
  7. Nah that was an example. I've mainly been looking at a few scopes from Vortex, Leupold and SWFA. While I would love a nightforce optic it isn't feasible at the moment. We have a new addition to the family and I need to make sure that anything I spend towards this isn't needed somewhere else for him.
  8. I have thought about getting the same scope in an adm recon s mount as I can guarantee that that scope will not be the limiting factor. That would be me lol. This will be my first time shooting with an optic outside of a few shots with my dads deer rifle but never messed with the turrets or anything. Then when or if it does become an issue I would upgrade at that point. I do suffer from upgrade-itis and a case of I-must-haves that are on the aggressive, aka expensive, side. Cough cough Nightforce cough.
  9. Sorry I meant the 4-14x optic. I've been looking at so many different options that numbers bleed together.
  10. Well didn't realize it had been a year since I had been able to get to this but a lot of other life events going on that have removed most of my free time and spending money. I did order a slr solo rail, sentry 7 gas block and AAC brakeout 2.0. Got it together for a quick photo but still needs to be finish assembled. Crappy photo but its progress. Just need an optic and mount and we can go shoot. Will be replacing trigger with a SSA-E as well just haven't gotten there yet. Friend is gonna lend me a primary arms 4-16x42 scope he's really proud of. I will probably end up with something different but if it means finally shooting this thing I'm all for it! Oh and sorry for the thread necromancy.
  11. I had seen a few posts about that. I had been leaning towards the slr rail. I agree that I would prefer a rail that would be threaded to the upper but finding one I like has been challenging. Still have time so I'll keep researching. Throw up any good rails that are recommended if you have a preference.
  12. What is everyone's feelings on either the SLR Rifleworks Solo rail vs the Fortis Mfg. Switch rail. At the moment these are my current choices that I'm looking at. Don't get me wrong, I'd love a KAC 7.62 URX 3.1 however the idea of spending twice the rail cost in order to buy the barrel nut wrench is hard to accept.
  13. Busted!!! My precious.....
  14. Oh and go easy on the photos lol I don't have a dedicated gun area to do work at the moment. New house and still getting garage setup
  15. Well the 308 now sports a new ACS-L stock, a new AP nickel boron BCG, and a mega arms 20" 1:10 barrel. Everything finally arrived yesterday. ? I apologize the images are upside down but on my phone I can't find a way to fix it at the moment. Blond moment for the win ? The he barrel is merely sitting there since I don't have the rest needed to assemble yet. I did run into a hiccup though. Had trouble getting the dust cover to open and was unable to pull the charging handle for a while. Eventually I was able to get it open but it looks like it's notched a tiny tiny amount at the point where the tension is held to keep it closed. Is this normal? This is my first billet receiver so I want to make sure I don't damage it unnecessarily.
  16. Still have a ways to go. About another 3 1/2 months but trying to get our ducks in a row. i ordered the gauges as my barrel and BCG unfortunately are coming from different people and I would prefer to catch a problem before it's too late. If I could have gotten them together and the shop verified I probably would have been okay with that but then again any chance to acquire new tools should always be taken lol. At least that's my philosophy ? And the same applies with firearms.
  17. Well the head space gauges arrived today and I got notice I should have the barrel by Tuesday. Still waiting on notification on delivery for the BCG. Unfortunately it may still be some time before it's functional as im also getting ready for life as a dad but it will happen.
  18. Hill country.
  19. Long time lurker but first time poster. I found this site initially during my initial research into the wonderful world of 308 AR rifles. Currently starting the building process, again, on a Mega Maten set. I pretty much have the lower assembled minus an actual stock which currently I'm planning on the magpul ACS-L. For the upper I have a Mega 20" 1:10 barrel enroute along with an aero precision BCG and a set of head space gauges. Next round of purchases will be an adjustable gas block, rail, and muzzle device. Slowly getting there but the wait should be worth it and the satisfaction of building it myself will be awesome.
