  1. It's not that it scopes me when I'm setup. If I'm stalking and I set myself up properly or I'm in a blind, then there are no issues. However when walking up to pigs more often then not you literally walk up on them or they walk up on you, my 338 has a very large scope. The setup is designed for single shot or maybe a followup shot but down range. When pigs run post the initial shot I basically shot as soon as target in focus. Sometime the rush, the bigs, the adrenaline, the 338 200gr, when its all packaged together in a small little bundle its a recipe for disaster and my face ends up paying for it. I've always laughed at people who scope themselves but when being stupid or dumb, this is legit hunt and when in a rush it sucks!!! So I need a semi, looking for something tactical so like ARTrooper said, something light maybe a Bull barrel is too much, 16-18 barrel...I'll look for a decent platform to build off of or if there is a site where I can go and just build one there?
  2. OK, so what would you do if you were in my shoes and was looking for a rifle in caliber large enough to consecutively and repeatedly take a hog down with single shots? I think .308 is perfect. It gives me the ability to reach a target far with enough velocity and power to take it down though the range. I started looking into the LR-308's. 18-20" barrel, was actually thinking about a bull barrels, I like the profile of them and size, weight will help with recoil, m4-72 muzzle, magpul PRS stock...and a nice tactical or maybe a ATN scope so I can record the hunts.
  3. When it comes to these tactical weapons I'm clueless with it. I thought about AR15's but after the last few hunts, it took us a while to find pigs post the shooting. So I tried with a LR308 and I fell in love with it. Then I see all the accessories for it plus the recoil reduction. So I'm open to anything at this point, I like the tactical look. I was a traditional pay out the ass for a nice fancy rifle that shoots one round at a time but if you want follow up shots, it will re-arrange your face real quick.
  4. Thanks, the recoil from a 338 doesn't bother me as long as I'm stationery and shooting single rounds but when these bastards come out my scope just likes to rearrange my face...I'm no puss but that crap hurts! Thanks everyone for the help..!!! Smartass's too...lol
  5. Yeah I sure did, I've wanted one for a long time but after this last TX hunt...damn pigs are coming from everywhere, shooting with a bolt action 338 is a recipient for SCOPING! I also don't want to spend several thousand dollars on something that I don't need. This one is my hog killer. Usually in a stalk we'll walk onto a group of 7, 8 hogs...bolt action sucks, I used my 1911 after scoping myself the second time. I like the black tactical look, pistol grip...I like the silver berral look...recoil as low as we can go in a 308. Something like these...

  7. Stalking...we do use my two 200lb Rottweilers on occasion when the pigs are big and need running... Ar15 is small I think, it works but I want it to drop. With the 15 you have to hit just right with correct ammo to drop. I'm sure folks are gona say I suck but itshe the truth. 223s don't penetrate large hogs. I think a 308 is good, 338 is a freaking hammer. I'm also 250lbs so carrying these guns isn't an issue, I'm the idiot who stalked with the Barrett 50...we had no meat left but it was fun. LoL I'm looking something tactical, tactical store, accessories, low recoil and I think 308 power should be enough.
  8. No, not trolling, too much info from you anti gun nuts lol...! I'm into hog hunting. I have the Lapua for bigger long range shot, I'm literally destroying my face with the telescope that I have on my riffle. Looking for rapid 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th shots...I'd like the recoil to be as low as possible. I was thinking a 308 will be more then enough of fire power. Sorry for the delay, I got locked out, new to this forum...
  9. What's an ideal AR 10 setup? As far as barrel length vs stock...I shot my buddies ar10 and it felt like I was shooting my airesume rifle. I would like to reduce recoil as much as possible. It's a Hog Hunting rifle project. I've been using a 338 Lapua round bolt action...scoped myself a few times with the followup shots. Need something new. The 338 is good for long range but I want a good semiautomatic. What do you guys think? Length for barrel...stock...hydraulic damper.
