  1. STI makes a nice long slide hunter. I prefer the standard full size, but it's just a personal preference thing. I carry mine concealed on a regular basis.
  2. There are several mainstream 1911 10mm makers nowadays. Dan Wesson, Colt (Delta Elite), STI, Wilson Combat, Rock Island.....just to name a few. Heck even Kimber has one. One that has my attention in the non-1911 crowd is Sig. They have the P220 in 10mm
  3. Here are a couple pics of my two favorites. The two tone one started out as a Dan Wesson Razorback, but is a complete custom build by Dave Severns of Severns Custom. The silver one is a mostly stock Dan Wesson Commander Bobtail (CBob) that has been hard finished (CobraChrome) and tuned by Virgil Tripp of Tripp Research. If you're interested in the innards of the custom build, let me know.
  4. I am indeed. I have a few, all 1911 platform. One is completely custom built by Dave Severns of Severns Custom - highly recommended. The other ones are Dan Wessons and are "mostly" stock with the exception of having the factory triggers tuned and a nice reliability tune done (one by Virgil Tripp, and the other by Dave Severns). All my Dan Wessons are pre-CZ acquisition, but I hear the newer ones are nice too. If you can find an older Colt Gold Cup, those are nice too. I've owned Glock 10mm's too, but I'm just not a fan of them (nothing wrong with them, but just don't work for me). I like the 1911 platform for 10mm, but you have to start out with a solid platform. Beware the cheaper cast 1911 frames that may not last long under the increased pressure of the 10mm. If you find a good hammer forged frame 1911, the rest can be built from there. I have a commander, and two full sized 1911 10mm's but prefer my custom full size. Have been carrying that one for over a decade, and it still looks new.
  5. Thanks for the welcomes everyone!
  6. Thanks for the welcome all! Seems like a good bunch of folks here.
  7. My Latest Build
  8. Hey all - New guy to the forum, but been around the 'lil black rifle for awhile and have owned/built several. I usually look for good prices on "project" rifles (uppers and lowers, or low-end base models by most any manufacturer) and then build them myself for a specific purpose. My latest is this DPMS Oracle build. I wanted it for a CQB to medium range heavy hitter, and wanted to manage weight but not spend a fortune doing it. I put a couple hundred rounds through it before switching anything out just to see what was good-to-go, and what could be better. Barrel was shooting as well as I can, so will keep it until I shoot it out. BCG is fine. Mag release was a bit sticky, so swapped it out with a spare. Trigger was typical mil-spec sloppy but worked fine. Free floating the barrel was, of course, a no brainer. I haven't weighed it yet, but I'd guess it's around 8 pounds without glass or ammo. Pretty typical for this type of build. STUFF: plain-jane DPMS oracle (new - negotiated great price from local dealer) Diamondhead flip-up iron sights (new - love 'em) recycled EOTech (Have had this one a few years, but still solid) Magpul ACS Lite Stock for Commercial tube Magpul enhanced stock pad Single point sling plate and recycled sling Heavy Buffers 308 carbine buffer and spring Troy tube and barrel nut Elftman tactical trigger (my first time using Elftman - very nice) Hogue grip recycled Nikon 1x-4x BDC scope on Burris PEPR QD mount Magpul Mags (several sizes)
  9. Just found this forum after finishing up my latest 308 build. Looks like a good place for inspiration for my next one - lol I own a few different varieties of the lil black rifle, but the 308's are my favorite. I just finished a light, short to medium range hard hitter, and will post some pics in the forum later. I don't have any particular brand that I favor. I usually just look for good deals on quality base rifles, and then build them from there. I usually build them for specific uses, and try to keep things on the minimalist side. I've learned a lot from places, like this, and hopefully I can contribute as well.
