Just rough fitting my new MI free float handgaurd. Nothing is torqed down in the photo but things are snug. This is my first 308ar build so this is just an astetics question. Is this gap normal with this brand handgaurd? Thinking of machining the upper rail section to allow the gaurd to move forward a touch more towards the upper. Also I feel the pin for dust cover is going to come loose as there is nothing up against it. Going to speak with midwest about fitment as well.

Budget.. know a few guys with faxon barrels in 5.56 and love them.

Hey guys, Im putting together my first .308 and wanted a few opinions on my choices for barrels. I have decided to purchase a barrel and BCG through faxon firearms. Im hung up on the 16" mid length gas vs the 18" rifle length gas barrels they sell. My goals for this rifle are to keep is light weight, keep recoil down, and obviosly id like it to function normally. I wont be shooting out pass 500 yards at this time. this is my first .308 and only have experience with an ar15 in a carbine length. Ive read a bunch of threads on here with point either direction. My next step is to call faxon and ask them what they reccomend. Any imput would be great. This forum is awesome!

Hello, I will try to be brief. I recently aquired a 308 lower from a friend and because I live in MA its a 6-7 year old preban. Model is a SI defence stripped lower. I have been trolling these forums for quite some time and need some guidence as this is my first go at building on this platform. The trouble I have found myself with is they no longer make an SI upper reciever to match my lower. Which leads me with the gamble of try to mismatch recivers. Has anyone out there had any recent luck mixing brands? Im not overly concerned about the cosmetics right now versus function. Being that this is my first build I was trying to buy a complete upper assembly. Any imput would be appreciated and the info on this forum is pure gold. Thanks
