  1. Thanks for the tip great idea for hunting
  2. Your right Wash...I love when a plan comes together
  3. Thanks guys I think the reason everything went so good is just buying Quality Parts and not going cheap. I'm already looking forward to Friday I have a three-day weekend coming up definitely going to try and get back up there and dial it in even more just need a better rest to shoot off of using the seat of my ATV as a rest just isn't cutting it LOL
  4. So here is the break in and sight in range report. First off wow what a gun it shoots like a dream, light weight, low recoil, smooth as butter the SLR gas block is a dream to dail in the gas system with. I started at setting 5 end up at 9. Im shooting reduce recoil Hornady ammo. Broke in the barrel exactly as Lilja instructed me to and I did not have a stable rest for sighting the gun in this is my best 5 round group I'll need to borrow a buddies lead sled or bring up some sand bags to try and dial it in further. I could not be happier with the way the gun turned out, the way it operates and for having such a lackluster rest to shoot off of the accuracy of the gun. The 5 shot group is at a hundred yards the fifth round was the Stray one. Hopefully I will be going up north again next weekend and I will have a better rest to shoot off of and then I can really dail the gun in
  5. Thanks guys, hoping to get up north and break it in and dial it in this weekend really been jonesing to get up north just haven't had the time been too busy with work. I'll give a range report as soon as I can. Without the Xanthos upper and lower I wouldn't have made my weight goal. I spent a little more than I wanted to on the upper and lower Plus getting it cerakote olive drab added even more to the price but it really turned out nice and was worth the money
  6. I just realized I left out JP Enterprise buffer spring, KAK heavy buffer
  7. So here's the parts list. 2A xanthos upper lower, Lilja 308 barrel "ar10740", 2a xsc rail, slr gas block, Thunderbeast CB muzzle brake, Hogue pistol grip, MFT stock, JP Enterprises bolt carrier enhanced Bolt JPBC - 4SPA, Spike's Tactical gas tube, BCM gunfighter charging handle, V7 hybrid selector, mag release, buffer retainer, titanium pistol grip screw bolt catch, takedown pivot pin set, buffer tube, QD end plate and castle nut, Geissele SSA-E trigger, Leupold vx3i, Warne X-Skel mount, pmag 10 rd mag I believe that is all the parts. Bare gun no Optics no mag 6 lb 12 oz gun with Optics 7lb 13.9 Oz, Gun, Optics, 5 rounds in a clip 8 lbs 5.4 Oz I could have lost some weight with a lighter scope mount or just going with rings that scope mount seems real beefy and still relatively light at just over 6 oz could have lost a little weight in the barrel also but glad I went the direction I did between the barrel and scope mount alone I could have probably dropped 7 oz and saved a lot of money buying a cheaper Barrel ,bolt carrier group cheaper lower parts kit that V7 stuff is expensive. All weights are by my cheap scale some parts came in heavier than the manufacturer stated some parts came in lighter after reweighing everything, 5 rounds in the mag Optics and gun weight 8.54 Oz little heavier than I first stated pictures are, empty gun no Optics, gun with Optics, gun with Optics and 5 rounds in a mag
  8. That's another reason I went with the lilja barrel from everything I read about their barrels it should be a tack driver
  9. Here it is finally finished. Thanks to all the guys on here for their tips, ideas and advice. My goal was to build a AR308 under 9 pounds with optics and 5 rounds in a 10 round clip for under 2000. The build is for the wife for deer hunting and hopefully pig hunting one day. I made the weight goal by 14 ozs but went over budget by a couple hundred, but thanks to black friday and cyber mondays I could have went over by even more. I also could have went lighter and alot cheaper by using a lighter barrel but for 4 more ozs and a couple hundred dollars i went with the lilja 18" barrel. If I went the cheap route I could have saved another 500 but i just couldnt cheap out on this build. In the end the bare gun weights 6.75 pounds add optics and a full 10 round clip and it comes in at 8.2 pounds mission accomplished thanks to everyome for all the help.
  10. Thanks for the help definitely want a collapsible stock already bought the Minimalist stock the wife's going to shoot it and me of course so it will have to be adjustable so far the bills coming in right at budget should be right at that $2,000 mark depending on how much I spend on a barrel and BCG
  11. Wow washguy thanks for doing my homework I have a lot to read up on now really appreciate the help. do you or anybody else know what I should do for my buffer tube? full-length?carbine length?manufacturer? they all seem pretty light v7 seems to make some nice stuff lightweight
  12. The faxon big gunner is looking pretty good anyone using it also anybody using their bcg's yoy can order their barrel and BCG headspaced from the factory sounds like a pretty good deal
  13. Yep it's two pounds two Oz but which Barrel is better faxon or Juggernaut the latter of the two from everything I've read is a very accurate Barrel especially for the price so far with my roughmath I have my gun coming in at between 6 1/2 and 6 and 3/4 pounds with scope mount 5 rounds in a 10 round mag that should easily put me under 9 lb which is my goal just not sure I'm which Barrel I should go with or if you guys have any other suggestions I'd like to keep it around that 2 pound Mark give or take a couple ounces
  14. Anybody using the 308 juggernaut barrel it sounds good. the price is pretty good too $300 for the barrel cerakoted black from everything I read really accurate too. light also I think 34 oz
  15. Black Friday sale on the trigger 240 marked down to 150
  16. Right now I've ordered the 2A upper and lower the 2A handguard 15in wish it was a 12in but it's super light at 10 oz geissele ssa-e trigger got everything because of Black Friday sales probably saved over 200 plus dollars now I just have to figure out what Barrel I'm going with I am thinking of either faxon or juggernaut Krieger are just too expensive I know you get what you pay for but I can't justify an $800 Barrel pretty sure I'm going to be going with the JP Enterprise BCG from what I can tell I'm going to be going over my $2,000 budget buy a couple hundred dollars but besides that BCG and Barrel everything else is small dollar amounts here and there what should I do if my buffer system does it pay to go with a lightweight BCG?
  17. That 2a barrel and handguard looks pretty good will fit and match up with the 2a xanthos for sure
  18. superlative adj gas block anybody use one? Rainer has it for 89
  19. Anyone use a superlative adj gas block?
  20. The nice thing about building them is spreading the cost out over months and months I guess that's going out the door but when there's a good deal you have to jump on it so everybody is happy with there faxon barrels?
  21. Point well taken pumping the brakes as we speak got ahead of myself worst case scenario it can go on my AR-15
  22. I'll seriously consider that to BCG also what barrels are you guys recommending I'd like to stay 18 inch light as possible I see Juggernaut makes a good barrel for the price $275 fluted 1 and 10 twist 5r rifling Wisconsin is home to a couple of really good Barrel manufacturers Krieger being one of them I'd like to keep the cost of the barrel under 400
  23. Too late now just ordered the upper and lower receiver and Minimalist stock I'm just jonesing to build something or technically assemble something I figure what with all the guys on this website I should be able to get the gun dialed into where I want it I'm by no means a gunsmith or expert but I build my Remington 870 shotgun for turkey and had a lot of fun doing it I'm really starting to look forward to this build I just got to make sure all the parts are compatible and with tips and advice from you guys I should be able to get this built if I go over budget so be it the nice thing about building them in pieces like this is you can spread out the cost over months and months just my roughmath now based on what I order and will like to order I should be able to keep the gun right around the 7 lb Mark without scope or mag with scope and mag should put me just under 9 pounds the other thing I have to take in consideration being that this is a gun for the wife is recoil I'm sure with the right buffer spring bolt carrier and gas block I can get the recoil light enough but I am new to this so anybody see me making the wrong move or wrong purchase let me know
  24. That's my thought exactly get the upper lower receiver bolt carrier group and buffer system Rock Solid you can lose weight in the barrel the handguard the stock if I can keep the gun fully accessorized with scope and 10 round clip under 9 pounds I'll be more than happy. I just ordered the 2a xanthos receiver set and the mft Minimalist stock so far I'm looking at getting the 2A handguard also seems to be one of the lighter ones out there and will match the upper receiver perfectly now it comes down to Barrel and bcg I know there's a couple of good Barrel manufacturers here in Wisconsin Kriegers one of them hopefully I can get a barrel in the low 2 pound range
  25. Get a low-mass BCG I wouldn't then need an adjustable gas block to tune the gas system correct so I want to reduce recoil as much as possible
