  1. Thank you for the reply! The screw on the left side does do that. The one on the right that is frozen appears to screwed into the other side rather than bottoming out the open the gap. The screw is so small I can't really twist it well. With a screw driver wedged into the gap and opening the gap with the screw that will turn I was able to get the hand guard off. PSA did drill and tap that stuck screw into the other side and it is frozen in place!
  2. Happy Spring! This is a PSA 6.5 CM upper purchased last fall. I'm trying to remove the fore stock to examine and possibly replace the PSA adjustable gas block. I have removed the three 9/64 allen head screws. The small 2mm allen head screw between 9/64 screws number two and three will not budge. There is another 2mm Allen head on the other side that opens the gap in the hand guard for removal. I have tried to heat the area if it's thread locked on without effect. I have tried to tension the 9/64 screws in case it's in a bind without effect. Does anyone have experience with removing this hand guard?
  3. The raised round part of the pin is on the forward edge. On the rear is a straight cut step with the raised area to the front. The lower part of the step is captured under the edge of the receiver extension like normal. The pin would rotate left or right under the V cut of the tube. I had to slightly widen the edges of the V so the pin would stay correctly oriented with the step to the rear and the raised pin to the front. Tightening the castle nut securing the extension was difficult to get perfect as the tube would just slightly be turned left or right and rotating the pin off center. The buffer face is now unmarked by the retraining pin. Recoil is minimal and brass drops in a nice pile about 4ish o'clock. Thanks again!
  4. Update: The offset retainer pin worked perfectly. I did have to file a little bit on the receiver extension for the pin to orient correctly. I think I'm done fixing this rifle now. I put $200 into my $600 rifle to get it right. Still cheaper than a $1200 rifle and I learned more about more about the AR platform! Thank you all for input, advice and help!!
  5. The extension is flush with the receiver. Thanks again!
  6. True North wouldn't let me checkout. Galloway let me. Offset pin ordered. Thank you everyone for the help!!
  7. Well the simple answer is to weld a quarter onto the back of the BCG. lol
  8. Fortunately the marks on the buffer face are much less. Only marking the paint I added to see new the marks. Originally the buffer face had hash marks into the aluminum.
  9. I shot five rounds yesterday without the two quarters in the receiver extension. The buffer was still nicking the ears of the receiver. The buffer was still being marked by the retainer pin. Cleaned and repainted the buffer head and the receiver ear marks last night. Five shots today with two quarters in. No new carrier marks on the ears of the receiver. Still slight marks on the buffer head from the retainer pin. One thing I failed to state in my first post was the gas tube is the typical PSA short tube. Approximately 1/4" .
  10. Thank you all for your help and input. I'm considering my next move.
  11. Buffer length verified at 3.250
  12. 7.75"
  13. I purchased a PA10 in 308 this last fall. It's the usual over gassed model. After studying here, I toned it down with an adjustable gas block, heavier buffer and 50¢ behind the buffer spring. It was almost perfect. So I just added a Tubbs flat wire buffer spring. Do I keep the quarters in there or can I leave them out? My inner engineer says they are not needed anymore.
  14. Thanks guys! Sorry, the title was supposed to be FNG from WA State.
  15. Hello, I'm Cameron. I live close to Spokane WA. I'm 60+ years old with a 40+ years experience with the AR platform in .223/556, 6.8SPC, and 454 SOCOM. I bought a PSA PA10 in 308 last month ( October '18) and joined the forum to learn more about the AR10. I have already learned about the 50 cents in the buffer tube and the over gassed condition of the PA10 thanks to this site. And yes, l have both issues. I'm a Life Member in the American Motorcycle Association and a Benefactor Life Member in the National Rifle Association.
