  1. I'll try more weight. This may be normal for this gun, I don't know. This is my first 308 AR, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It's not unbearable, just more recoil than I expected.
  2. It has just the A2 kn it now. The buffer weighs 5.8oz.
  3. Ok, so Igot it together and have taken it to the range, and I fired about 20 rounds through it, enough to get the gas block set where I think it works best. I wasn't able to shoot any more than that at the time. Yesterday, I took it out and fired 20 more rounds through it. Functioned great, but man it kicks way more than I expected. It doesn't hurt or anything, but it has a lot of muzzle rise. This may be normal, I don't know, but it feels like it kicks considerably more than my 700 in .308. Any tips? I have the Odin works adjustable buffer weighted at the same as an AR10.
  4. It was easy. Loosened the two allen screws and it slid right off. Be careful not to lose the little alignment key when you take it apart. I was surprised it even had one, my PSA pistol did not and my buddy's didn't either. There was no loctite used either. Just put some blue loctite on there when you reassemble.
  5. I won't call this a build, it's more of how I received the rifle, what was wrong with it and the parts I used. Big thanks to the guys on the forum here who answered questions and gave advice; Armed Eye Doc and 98Z5V. I thought it might be interesting to give a detailed account of the parts and what I found. Here goes: Upper: PSA midlength 18" ordered on sale probably two years ago. Ive just now got around to assembling it. I never fired it, as I had other projects and figured I'd get to it sometime. I should have inspected it closer when I received it, because I found the bolt lugs to be boogered up. Called PSA customer service and after a lengthy time on hold and emailing pictures they sent me an RMA number to send it back, however they only wanted the bolt, not the entire BCG (I had to pay for shipping). I didn't here anything for a while, and when I called to check the status they explained they were sending an entire BCG as a replacement, because mine was an "older style." I received said BCG and it appears to be good to go. I disassembled it and I can find no discernable difference between it and the bolt carrier they told me to keep, so I guess I have a spare now. Upon reading posts on this forum and receiving input, I found the gas tube to be incorrect. I ordered the correct one from Armalite (phone call got the best results) and installed it along with and Odin Works adjustable gas block (hope to suppress it in the future). The tube now does not come in contact with the barrel nut and protrudes into the upper receiver at the correct distance. I wanted to change out the handguard, but that wasn't in the budget, so I removed it and had it Cerakoted. Lower: initially when I ordered the upper I placed a separate order for a fixed stock lower with PSA's EPT trigger as it was on sale also. I put it to the side as well and here recently when I began this assembly I decided that since PSA was having another sale on PA-10 lowers it made since to just buy a collapsible stock lower than mess with buying parts to convert mine. Now I have learned that may not have been the case. Oh well, I have a fixed stock lower now too so it may become the next project. I mention having both because I found that when I received the collapsible stock lower that it would not lock the bolt back. Initially I thought something was wrong with the upper, but upon further inspection and comparison with my fixed stock lower I found the bolt catch on the collapsible stock lower was incorrect. (See pics) After a couple lengthy phone calls to PSA customer service, some comparison photos and refusing to send the entire lower back, they sent me what they said was the correct bolt catch. However, it was not. I called back, and explained the problem that neither could be completely engaged by the empty magazine. John in their government sales department understood and sent me another bolt catch which matched the one in my fixed stock lower. If I had not had the fixed stock lower I may have abandoned this whole project. So now that I had the bolt catch figured out and corrected I find with the help of the forum that although PSA did put a somewhat correct buffer tube on the lower, they used the wrong buffer and buffer spring. To fix this I ordered and installed a Odin Works adjustable heavy buffer and Tubbs Flatwire spring. I ordered these before I received the advice to order the appropriate Armalite components. Hopefully my parts work together, if not, I will order the Armalite parts. I added a Odin Works extended mag catch which fit well and seems to work with all my magpul mags. Time will tell if it stays, seems more for looks than anything else. This rifle isn't going to see emergency reloads or anything like that. Optic and Mount: I went budget friendly on these for now. This isn't a Go to War Rifle, its just a hobby gun for me. I may upgrade these later. So far they work and seem of quality for what I paid for them. The scope is a Bushnell Xtreme Trophy 2.5-15x illuminated reticle with a BDC. The mount is a UTG Accu Sync High mount. A friend had one and its held zero for some time and it didnt break the bank. The rifle is now ready to shoot and I will post the results. I hope I'm not disappointed with accuracy. I understand these barrels can be hit or miss. If it needs a barrel, it will be a while. Plans are a to take this hog and coyote hunting with a friend, so I'll mount some sort of green/red light on it. A Magpul bipod is also on it's way.
  6. Good to hear. Now, if palmetto will hurry up and send a replacement bolt, I'll fire this thing and see how it shoots. I want a new handguard, but I'll wait on that. I want to see how bad this barrel is then I'll research a replacement and do it all at once.
  7. Fully compressed, the buffer travels the same distance and the spring it shipped with, so it should be good to go.
  8. Received the Tubbs Flatwire spring today. Man, its way longer than the one PSA shipped in this lower. Hope this thing works well with the Odin Works Adjustable buffer. Anyone else have experience with the Tubbs spring?
  9. Sent the bolt back to PSA, we'll see what I get back. In the mean time, I got the Armalite gas tube and Odin Works Adjustable gas block installed.
  10. Definitely, didn't have time to sit on the phone today, but will tomorrow. Still no email response from them, shocker.
  11. Almost forgot I had this gas block, magazine release and a new light for the 19x on the way.
  12. Dang, thought it'd make it shoot much better! 😡
  13. The lugs in the barrel extension look fine. I'm guessing this from their test fire, if they even do one, because I haven't shot it yet. Fixing other problems first. I've emailed it to the customer service email address twice with pictures. No response. I guess I'll sit on hold with them tomorrow (forever) to sit what they will do, just like when I had to call about having the wrong bolt catch. Sheesh.
  14. 2 Armalite AR10 Carbine gas tubes for a PA10 Rebuild.
  15. Can someone give me there opinion on this bolt. This is unfired by me and how I received it from PSA. A couple lugs had worn or shiney spots. Run it?
  16. Okay, thanks. I can turn it in a little more if enlarge the detent slot on the tube, but it'll be a pain undoing the castle nut since they staked it. Funny how palmetto makes so many other mistakes, but yet they actually stake the castle nut. Lol. So, my thoughts on Palmetto so far are this: they have great prices, and killer deals sometimes on ammo and magazines. I've purchased a lot. I appreciate what they do as for the pricing on all their AR related items too, i.e. lowers, uppers, stripped receivers etc. I even appreciate being able to purchase these AR 308 components so cheap. There customer service and quality control need some serious work, but that is probably one of the things that keep costs down for them. Quality is not always terrible, but everything you buy, you need to be a little familiar with standards and how things are supposed to go together, because there are a lot of mistakes. You don't have to know everything, just understand all the stuff needs to be checked and find a good resource for research. I think what I have is a hobby gun and with research, as well as some money, I can assemble a decent gun. I'll get this one shooting and try to document my progress here. We'll see if this is my last AR308 from Palmetto. I have the feeling I probably could or should, have upgraded and bought a better gun that I wouldn't have to re-engineer. Maybe not, so far it's been fun doing the small amount of tinkering I have done. I've got a fixed stock PA10 lower also. I'll wait to finish this one to see if I keep that one. All in all, I guess I knew what I was getting into, cheap gun, expect problems. Yes, PSA could have done this or that and they could have used this part or should have used that part, but it is what it is; they assembled a cheap 308 for the masses and if you want it to run better you're gonna have to spend some money and tinker with it.
  17. Ugh, the depth of the buffer tube is 7 5/8 almost 7 11/16". Not sure how best to measure this installed and where the "front edge" actually is. I tried to take a better picture showing the tape in the buffer tube.
  18. Armed Eye Doc, Just got off the phone with Armalite and a super helpful sales guy said they were in the middle of inventory, but he would be able to put his hands on some shortly. I went ahead and ordered two. He said if they don't ship out by the end of this week, they will by the first of next. So the trick is to definitely call and ask.
  19. Checking the buffer tube and wondering...is this gonna cause me issues as well? Does it look like its screwed far enough in? If not I can enlarge the slot in the tube for the detent and try screwing it in one more turn. Problem is they actually staked the castle nut.
  20. Is there a crossover list for parts that show what Armalite parts work in a PA10? Are any other parts compatible? Lower parts kits, BCG, etc.?
  21. Good to know, thanks!
  22. No, I haven't but I will. Habent read good reports about their shipping costs, so I was trying to find another source. I'll call and see though.
  23. Armed Eye Doc and 98Z5V, thanks for the help. Do you know of another brand AR10 carbine gas tube that may work? Only asking because Armalite is out of stock everywhere. Thanks again.
  24. Anyone know of there is an alternative to the Armalite Carbine gas tube? Is the correct length 11.7/8 or 12"?
  25. Armed Eye Doc, You are correct, seems the gas tube is incorrect. I'll need to order an Armalite one. Carbine length right? Or is there another one that may be in stock somewhere? Also, I was checking the buffer system and it appears it may be incorrect as well. I got an H buffer that is 3.25" long and a spring that is 11.25" long. Will an adjustable buffer from Odin Works and a Tubbs flatwire spring fix this? I haven't fired this thing yet, but I'd like to install correct parts before I do.
