Glad this AR-10 forum was created! I'm new to rifles since you can't hunt with rifles in NJ. But I decided to buy one and bought a DPMS LR-308 chambered with a 7.62x51 NATO barrel.
I'm excited to go zero in the scope but my biggest concern with this firearm is the interchangeability of .308 vs 7.62x51 NATO rounds. I've read numerous articles on this but some articles say a 7.62x51 NATO can be fired in a chambered .308, but a .308 cannot be fired in a chambered 7.62x51. Is the interchangeability based on equal grain capacity of 147/149 between the two? 7.62x51 are harder to find than .308's in my area. I called on one local shop and as soon as I said 7.62 they immediately said "Oh, 308's". I do not want to have the wrong ammunition in the chamber.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated to put this to rest once and for all. I figure the best experience / advice with this firearm is found right here.
Thanks in advance.
