I finally got the rifle working as it should today with the suppressor installed. Since it still appeared to be too much gas pressure even for the heavy buffer and spring, I decided to start over and close down the adjustable gas block. The instructions said to fully close the block, turn the adjusting screw CW until it stops. Fully open is then 4.5 turns CCW. Fully open it and then close it down until the BCG won't lock back on an empty magazine. I started at 1.5 turns open and one round in the magazine with the BCG locking back and the empty properly ejecting. Repeating this a quarter turn further closed each time, it continued to show no issues until I tried one quarter turn open, when the BCG did not lock back. I then opened it back to one turn open and this appears to have solved my issue at this setting, I could rapid fire an entire magazine with no further issues. Altogether, I fired another 30 rounds and now have a huge smile on my face and a feeling of gratitude for all the help I received from this forum. This old fart has learned a ton from all of you. The video is slow motion of three rounds being shot. As an added bonus, after nearly a years absence, sounders have returned to one of my feeders so it looks like I'll get to christen it real soon. The XP-50 is big and heavy, but since I shoot mostly from a tripod, weight is not as big an issue. That said, I am tickled pink with the XP-50. Pulsar also makes a thermal that looks much like a regular scope. Best advice through is to look thru whatever you're looking at buying. With a thermal, you can also use it in daylight.

I'm using a Pulsar XP-50 Thermal. I also have an older Armasight Apollo thermal that I use as a hand help thermal to scan with and have a PVS-14 night vision monocular that can be hand held or mounted on a helmet for hands free operation. The night vision is great for walking or driving in a field at night. I started out with a Gen 2 night vision scope, but was disappointed in it and it now gathers dust in a cabinet. In my seven years of experience, I would highly recommend thermal over night vision if you can swing it. I can look out over my fields at night with the night vision and not see critters that immediately pop up with thermal. If at all possible, try before you buy. Hope this helps.

Using both the depth gauge on a 12" set of calipers and a metal scale, the tube the spring fits into clearly measures 8" from where the spring bottoms to the face of the tube. Also, the spring measures 13.5" in it's free state and when inserted 5.5" remains exposed when uncompressed, confirming the 8" tube length.
-
I pulled the buffer out and it is even lighter than you figured at 2.9 oz. It has a sliding weight inside and the tube length measures 8" inside, while the spring is 13.5" in length uncompressed.

Yes, all three were suppressed. I don't have any without the suppressor, but it appears to work quite well with a couple of different Hornady loads, all 150 gr. I have no idea what the buffer weight is as the rifle is just a stock RRA 308 X series. Right now, it is all apart waiting for the new adjustable gas block. which is due here on Monday. The manual shows the buffer as shown in the attached. Please remember, I know little about the working and details of AR's, but I love to shoot Hogs with them at night. Where I hunt, the use of the suppressor is a must so I need to get it sorted out. On my AR-15, I have absolutely no issues either with or without the suppressor and a wide range of different ammunition. I guess that coupled with my lack of experience is what surprised me so much when I went to initially shoot it with the suppressor, but I'm quickly learning and appreciate all the help I can get.

When I talked with RRA's today, the recommended this one from Superlative Arms. are you familiar with it?

Well, here is my first newbie question. Please pardon my inexperience if this has been previously answered, but so far I haven't found it yet. I recently purchased a RRA LAR-8 to upgrade from my AR-15 for night Hog hunts. Experience has shown my that the 308 is a lot more forgiving to less than perfect shot placement with the smaller 223/5.56. After a five month wait, it finally arrived at my dealer only to be lost by the Post Office for a month. I've now been able to shoot it and it works great and very accurately without my suppressor, but it will not work with the suppressor with feed and ejection issues. In talking with other users, they all agreed the suppressor was causing too much bask pressure and I needed an adjustable gas block. I called RRA and they also confirmed this. Here's my question, actually two: 1. Can anyone recommend a good gunsmith here in Central TX? I live near Centerville off I45 half way between Dallas and Houston. 2. What adjustable gas block would you recommend? Attached are some slow motion and normal speed videos showing my problem when shooting with the suppressor. Feedback will be appreciated. Well, here's my first newbie question. My new RRA LAR-8 works and shoots great without my suppressor, but with it it won't function properly and is relegated to single shot status The folks at RRA tell me I need an adjustable gas block for use with the suppressor. Can anyone suggest a good gunsmith here in Central TX and who makes the best adjustable gas blocks? I see a zillion when I look on the web.

I come from a military family. My Dad was career AF, started as a fighter pilot during WWII. When I got out of HS, I knew I wasn't ready for college so I went into the Navy. By the time I got out, I knew why I should get my ass in school. My late baby Brother was a Sea Bee, while my other Brother retired from the Marine Corp. At nearly 76, I'm now retired and enjoying the hell out of life here on our small spread. Fortunately, my health is still pretty good and I can do what I like, just slower then I'd like. Maybe someday we can meet.

I drive up there regularly to fly models at Lake Halbert.

Hi, new to right group living in Central Texas where I retired 6 years ago. I've become addicted to night Hog Hunting and up to now my primary Hog rig was my Mauser M12 chambered in 308 WIN, with occasionally use of my AR-15. In my humble opinion, the 308 is an awesome round for knocking down Hogs, but the bolt action Mauser typically limited me to one Hog at a time. It took six months to get, but I just took delivery of a RRA LAR-8 chambered in 7.62 NATO, which is a first to me. From what I've been able to gleam from the web, I should be able to use my normal 308 WIN ammunition, but before I shoot it for the first time, I need confirmation that this will be okay. I have a decent supply of 308 and no 7.62 and good luck trying to find any on a shelf.
