  1. I finally got a chance to take this out to the range. I loaded 165 gr. FMJ over 49 g of H414. Its a bit light of a load. The gun ran good. I had a couple of times that there seemed to be a few times that there was a FTF because of two shells popping out of the mag. The mag is a brand new Pmag 25 round. Most seemed to work just fine. I sighted it in at 100 yards. I did not get a chance to take my brothers AR10 out. I may this weekend.
  2. One thing I noticed, when the bolt is back and locked in by the bolt catch, even if I remove the mag I can not release the bolt by pushing the catch. Its too stiff. It will work when I take a bit of pressure off the bolt by pulling a bit back on the charging handle. My guess is it needs to wear in a bit. It works free enough it is just too much pressure to use the catch.
  3. The build so far. I will have the scope and mount on Monday tomorrow.
  4. While I am recuperating I need to spend a bit of time and get optics for the rifle. What are the best choices for under 200 bucks? I found this one on Amazon that seems like its got good reviews. Vortex Optics Diamondback Second Focal Plane Riflescopes Along with buying Monstrum Slim Profile Series Offset Cantilever Picatinny Scope Mount | 1 inch Diameter
  5. I got home and put the upper on the lower. Fits and seems to function as intended. When I am better I will take the two to the range
  6. To test my brothers ar I will put a bit of black paint on the two dings and that way I can see if the BC is hitting it even if its a light strike.
  7. The accident was just about one year ago,, it takes time and a lot of steps to get here. This is why I sold my Harley Davidson Softail Heritage. If we were on the Harley it would be a whole different story. The way people drive today scares me and I am too old to bounce back from even a small bike accident. I have ridden since I was 13.
  8. Thanks guys. My wife and I were driving and two young 19yo girls were texting and crossed the center line around a corner and hit us head on at 40 mph. My wife PT and go better but my upper neck vertebra was damaged to the point they had to be fused. I used to think whiplash was a scam. But not any more.
  9. I will have to call Stag for the size gas port. I am currently in hospital for neck surgery and have to stay over night. I will do it the end of this week.
  10. I am getting the Stag 2.5 inch 5.4oz buffer and spring for the 308 and my 7.25 OD tube, and the Armalite 5.4 oz with AR15 length buffer and spring witch the longer 7 5/8s tube. So one of these fixes should work well or maybe both will work well. It will be a fun day at the range. Between my search's and this forum I am learning a lot about buffers. I had always thought that buffer did not really matter much. But that is the thing with any hobby. You never stop learning.
  11. So one of the 5.4 oz should take care of it or help. That makes sense on why the marks as so light. I bet any 5.4 would fix or go a long way to fix this.
  12. I think I may have found the issue for the small marks. My BC has the bottom of the carrier like the first image and not like the second one. I am going to take a small file and angle it to make it less abrupt. It would not take much to make it more like the second picture.
  13. My brother wants me to test his out with the Stag and Armalite but if there is no noticeable difference he wants the Stag set with the heavy buffer and spring in it. Since the second rifle has never been shot I will try the Armalite and inspect that area, and then the others on down and inspect after 5 or 10 rounds to see if the marks on mine appear.
  14. If you are talking about the reflection on the threads I can tell you its totally black, that is just flash reflection. The only part I see that is similar to your pictures to be totally honest there are two small marks on the lower part of both sides of the tube itself, that is all. And they are really small.
  15. The gun is at my house so I have it. I told him I wanted to do some testing on it and he OKed me keeping it for a couple weeks. Here are the photos of the rear, No marks at all.
  16. Well I will see. If nothing ever works why did my firs build with a 3.8oz PSA work fine? I want to try my old gun I sold my bro to see if it works any different with the other two buffers.
  17. The proof will be in the pudding. I will use all three sets and see what works and what does not. Or if all three work. It will be interesting.
  18. I ordered two sets of the Stag, and one of the Armalite. I want to run the gun with the 3.8 buffer in it, an the Stag and the Armalite. I will see what works and does not work. If the stag works fine I will keep those and send the Armalite back. My first build is a PSA 3.8 and it runs fine. But I want to try the others.
  19. I tried one more time and Armalite answered. I was told by Tech that they use the longer tube because they use a 5.4oz buffer that is the same length as a standard AR buffer so the longer tube is needed. So on the Stag they use the shorter 5.4oz buffer and a standard tube is used. Armalite says they have no stock but could put a kit together out of parts an he would check if they had all the parts.
  20. I called Stag and they said that their buffer was 5.4 oz, and the spring was for the AR10 and that their tube for the AR10 was the standard carbine tube. I can not get Armalite to answer a call, I keep getting not able to answer voice. I will try a bit later on in the day.
  21. I will call Armilite tomorrow and see if they have a buffer and springs in stock.
  22. So a stag upper with a stag BCG will not work with a stag spring and buffer?
  23. Is there a reason that the AR10 spring and buffer from Stag would not work?https://www.stagarms.com/stag-10-carbine-receiver-extension-kit-stag300732.html I can call tomorrow and see what the weight of the buffer is, its not on the specs.
  24. OK so I ran over to my brothers house and this is what the first build was, I don't know who made the upper, no marks but on the barrel that just has the SS, 308 Win on it. The buffer is a PSA, and my scales puts it at 4oz. So its most likely 3.8. I think the spring would have been from PSA also. But it seems to work fine.
  25. I have built one AR10 and several AR15s and I buy what ever is cheapest. My first AR10 I bought the upper off of Gun Broker, the lower was a 80 percent and I don't recall where it was from. This lower I bought from an outfit in Montana that makes them. https://80lowers.com/ I don't recall where I bought the buffer for either of the AR10s. I sold my first one to my brother, I will talk to him today and see if he can weigh the buffer. That one worked perfect. When I bought the first lower and second lower it was a bad time to buy any gun. Everything was sold out. I did not know there were two different types of lower and upper configurations and bought an Armalite lower and then bought a DPMS upper off of GB. So I had to buy another lower and build a second one to fit my upper. The upper I paid 560 for complete BCG and all. It has a SS barrel. I will go over to my Brothers today and take a few pictures of it. and weigh the buffer.
