rfaye7007
Hello All, I am new to building/assembling. I am currently in the middle of my first. What I have: Spikes Tactical "THE JACK" .308 DPMS lower, came with the upper (receiver). JP enterprise FMOS High Pressure Bolt Carrier Group JP Silent Capture Buffer Spring PRS GEN 3 Mag Pul Stock Timney AR-10 competition trigger (4lbs) What I want: JP enterprise 18" Barrel with 1:11 1/4" twist What I don't know: What rifle length gas system to get? What length hand guard I should get? I just know I need to cover the gas system. What muzzle break to get? What optics to get? What I plant to use it for: I want to target shoot anywhere from 300 - 600+ yards and I would like to hunt deer with it. Hey if I get good with it, maybe even Elk. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rob

D.R.D.
Welcome! Nice receiver - will scare the animals for sure! What rifle length gas system to get? - Probably rifle-length to keep pressures down What length hand guard I should get? I just know I need to cover the gas system. - 15" will work nicely What muzzle break to get? - For optimum recoil reduction Nathan Wright's Beast Brake seems to be the current one to beat. Search the muzzle brake threads for links to all the comparison testing that has been done out there to explore your options. What optics to get? - For hunting at 600 yards you'll likely want a good field of view, so more than 15x might not be helpful in my understanding -Why are you going for 1:11.25" twist, though? Hunting you'll want heavier pills. So, to stabilize them with a decent B.C. you'll probably benefit from a tighter twist; at least 1:
rfaye7007
Thanks for the positive feedback. I know the mag well is a little flashy, but I thought "what the hell, why not?" Haha.
Clay
I'd go mid lenth with 12" handguard to save some weight. Looks like you're going to have sweet shooting gun regardless
