  1. Love my FA 18.5" barrel. On;y issue I've had was that M118LR won't function in it, it's too long and caused primer piercing. I switched to M852 and had no issues. Barrel is a tack driver.
  2. Thanks guys, i paint most of my serious rifles. Also plan on replacing the Smith Vortex FH with a birdcage FH. I hate the pinging noise on the Smith, I think it throws off my follow through.
  3. I made a few changes. Most obvious is the paint. Nothing fancy just some OD, brown and tan krylon evenly dusted over the entire gun. Objective was to break up the outline. I also had to shift the scope forward in the rings IOT get a better eye relief, this in turn caused the doctor to interfere with the lever on the magnification ring so I moved it forward onto the forend. It still works really well and transitioning from the scope to the doctor is really fast. <thumbsup>
  4. The parts seem smooth enough they're definitely broken in. I use SLIP 2000 EWL and put it on liberally. The trigger assembly is a Geiselle SSA
  5. I was mistaken, bolt will lock to the rear manually with and without a magazine either empty or with a rounds in it. I too am concerned about the IRA lower, I've read the threads on them also but I can't see how it would translate to the issue of an under gassed rifle?
  6. This is a new build. I just checked my rifle and no my bolt will not stay locked back unless there is a mag in it...never checked this before, interesting My gas port and block are obstruction free and align just fine. I looked at the gas rings and they are all in apparently good condition. My buffer is the shorter 3 oz DPMS .308 buffer and the spring is the .308 spring with what appears to be 28 or 29 coils. BTW Slash, I'm the guy who sent you an e-mail earlier today reference the same issue.
  7. I'm sorry to resurrect this thread, but I have an issue that i'm wondering if it can be fixed with a tweak of my tube, buffer sizes. I have DPMS patterned IRA lower reciever with a DPMS BCG, DPMS upper receiver, DPMS .308 receiver extension, buffer and spring and 18.5" Criterion Barrel with rifle length gas system appears to be "under gassed". When firing M118LR, M118SB, M80 ball and 150 gr. Rem Core Lokt it ejects but will not strip new round from Magpul mags and will not lock to rear on last round on any of my mags. This leads me to believe it's under-gassed. I've checked the carrier key and it's tight, i've checked the gas port hole and gas block, they're lined up, and there is no wear on my carrier that would indicate that it's getting hung up. I lube my BCG VERY well prior to shooting. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix my issue? Will the longer Armalite tube and H3 buffer help or since this seems to be a fix for over-gassed guns do you think it will make things worse? I'm thoroughly confused.
  8. IMHO the KAC 600 meter BUIS is the industry standard for a precision gas gun. If I needed to employ the gun with irons only this sight provides the accuracy and adjustment needed to still be precise.
  9. Thought I'd share my new build. Below are the specifications: -Iron Ridge Arms Lower -DPMS LPK minus trigger assembly -Geiselle SSA Trigger with KNS anti-walk pins -Sierra Precision SPR grip -DPMS Buffer tube and buffer with Magpul STR stock -DPMS Upper receiver -DPMS Bolt and bolt carrier -Gunfighter mod 3 charging handle -Daniel Defense 12" 7.62 Lite railed forend -Fulton Armory Criterion 18.5" 1/10" twist barrel -Smith Enterprises Vortex Flash hider -Harris bipod w/ GGG mount & pod-loc -Troy industries front BUIS -Knights Armament 600m rear BUIS -Predator Tactical 45 degree offset mount with 7 MOA Doctor red-dot sight. -Super Sniper 3-9X FFP Mil/Mil scope in Larue Tactical 1.5 SPR mount. Was only able to get it out to 500 meters, however it performed flawlessly and kept about 3/4 MOA with M118LR. It's well balanced and light enough that I can really gun with it if I have to. I'm very satisfied with it and look forward to putting it through it's paces next week. Please excuse the crappy cell phone pics.
  10. Nice rifle. I'll be using the Troy TRX for my new .308 buils as well. I don't know if you're aware of this but Troy does make a lower profile version of that rail to fit your upper so that the rails on your forend and upper are perfectly flush. Probably doesn't matter since you're not using BUIS, but that would drive me nuts. <thumbsup>
