I graduated from Utah State with a Bachelors in Aviation Science, got my pilots license, IFR and twin certs, then while doing my Commercial, blew out both ear drums and can never fly a plane again. I finish my 2nd degree in about 2 months in Information Systems Security and am working as a Software Engineer and Tech support for EMC2.

I had a Savage Axis in 223 when I was starting to learn to shoot. For the price that gun was way accurate. Shot about 1-.5 MOA @ 100yds. More that I could have hoped for. I'm thinking if I find the right rifle I may be able to CNC a new stock for it out of aluminum with a quick release and make it a nice pack gun. We will see how feasible that is though <dontknow>

So I am looking for a fun 17 HMR to shoot, looking to spend around $300. Savage has a few really nice ones. I primarily want one that is ultra light that I could throw over my shoulder and run out into the desert or the mountains without much thought for the weight. If it were a wood stock I could modify it to take out most of the weight and maybe put a spot for some extra ammo in the stock. What do you guys think? Anyone have experience with the 17?

Great looking rifle! What is your rear sight? Is it the YHM fixed rear? I love aperture sights like they have on my M1A. Very cool!

This is my new rifle, I had an old ergo grip lying around from one of my AR-15s and did not like the original on this one. Took it to the range and was shooting about 3/4th in with iron sights. My new rings should get here today so I can attach my 8-32x vector scope to it. I will post pics when I get the rings. Great rifle and came with a nice surprise, I thought I would have to replace the trigger group, but it came with a JP 2 stage adjustable trigger that is AMAZING, set to about 4 LBS about 2.5 on 1st and 1.5 on the 2nd! <thumbsup> and there she is with her new scope... now time to wait for Saturday to come so I can take her out and zero it in!

Yea I think I want a .17 HMR now. Was shooting my brothers and it was a great little gun!

lol, and now that I have a bigger safe and it looks empty its time to get another gun or 2... I think I have the sickness.

I ended up keeping the A2 as is, and somehow convinced the wife to let me buy a DPMS SASS! Not sure how I pulled that off. I am waiting on some higher scope mounts from midway, then I will go out to my range and zero it to 100yds for the iron sights and 200 for the scope I think. Though my dope card for my remmy 700 is set for 300 yards but I am not sure yet. 300 is as far as my local range goes, takes about 2 hours to get out to the one that has 100-1000 yd ranges. Anyway I'll post pics of it and the few modifications I am about to do. Mainly the grip, the one that comes with the SASS doesn't fit my hands and honestly feels cheap too.

Hey I am from Utah, I like long walks.... oh woops wrong forum. I just joined here after catching the AR308 bug and deciding I wanted to make one just for me. I currently have in my collection 10/22 ultimate, Colt 1991A1 Officer, M1A Loaded with walnut stock and Gen 4 scope mount, XDM 40 full size and a M&P AR-15 no mods. Building the AR as my baby as I acquired an Armalite AR-10A2 that I like but want to make it into a 1MOA or less gun.

Hey guys, I am new to this board and super excited to have found a home for my new obsession. I recently acquired an Armalite AR10A2, I decided I wanted to build it into my dream rifle, and have run into a few frustrations. First is that the top is an A2 upper with the fixed carry handle and I dislike this. I am having a terrible time finding a flattop upper that I like. I am almost to the point of selling it and getting a DPMS as a result. What I am looking for is at least a 20" match grade barrel, threaded barrel, Forward assist, something similar to here at http://www.762sass.com/product.php?p=384&cid=1&session=8f1bbca482c9023818054a6ca9d29039 Anyone have any suggestions or would going with DPMS be a good idea since the armalite parts are so difficult to find?

Thank you, Finding what I want for the armalite has me so frustrated at this moment I am almost ready to sell the armalite and go pick up a DPMS or something similar.
