Hi, Thanks,I'm waiting on a Magpul PRS stock to go with it! That will probably look different! I'm 6'8" tall so a beefy rifle does not bother me that much and I want something to fall when I hit it! I'll post some pics when I get it all together probably next week. So far I'm happy!!!

Hi, Well it seems everyone wants bull barrels and free float HG's! I thought the old A2 look was cool and being left-handed needed the shell deflector! I have never seen a Armalite which is suppose to be at the top of the food chain but was impresswd with this upper as far as quality. The bolt face had some brass on it so they tested it it seems. No info of any kind was included with it? Here's some crummy pics!

Hi, Well my 308 BA-20 upper arrived today and I'm pretty impressed with it so far. Of course pretty is as pretty does! I'm still waiting on parts from FA and WW. I'll put a pic up if anyone is interested?

Hi, Around the first part of June after looking at different options decided to just order a 308 BA-20 upper from DPMS to go with my same name lower. I was told I would be put on a list and it would be 8 months to get the upper. Yesterday the nice lady called me and said it was ready to ship? Of course I whipped the plastic and it's on the way. Ordered buffer,spring and rifle tube from FA and a Magpul PRS stock for $199 from "Russ" at Weapons World. Nice people and he has Magpul Mags on sale for $17 if anyone is interested? No connection and this is my first order! I'm saleing a M-14 parts kit I have stashed to pay for everything,but when it all arrives should be able to build a rifle! This is my first AR hope I like it!

Hi, Thanks Gentlemen,very,very much! Edgecrusher you are right,you don't need a 20" barrel for urban shooting but I like longer barrels as a rule! The DPMS upper is going to take so long I might go ahead and build another upper from parts,but from what I see people want $300 for a barrel,$200 for bolt/boltcarrier,$200 for upper,then all the bit peices! It seems that a nice upper assembly is close to $1000! I guess that was why you guys gave the advice on the gun shows! I have a built DPMS lower so I guess I have to make sure the barrel and extension is good for the lower and I should be ok??? I could go ahead and build a 16" and then get my upper assembly from DPMS next year and get another lower and stock for that! Those are the easy pieces anyway! Thanks again!

Hi, Sorry but when you are trying to make a decision your wanting some feed back and want to move along! I figured that for the money I'm not going to beat an upper from DPMS. I have never heard of a bad report on their barrels although Wilson is not considered top of the line something is working! Even if I changed my mind and wanted to go with something else I won't get hurt buying the upper and reselling for cash on a forum! Thanks for the help,I do appreciate it!!! There just dosen't seem like alot of info on the AR 308. Is there a step by step tutorial besides the one here on building somewhere? I have the AR 15 build book from Fulton Armoury!

Hi, Well no one has any upper assemblys ready to go,so I put in for a 308-BA-20 from DPMS with a 8 month lead time!!! The people at DPMS said they can't make them fast enough! We'll see what happens? Can someone tell me where the AR 308 guys hang out? Does not seem to be here? Thanks!

Hi, Well....I've looked at buying parts for an upper and were talking easy $1000 bucks! I would end up with a little better barrel (Criterian) but not $400 better. The DPMS upper assembly that I've been looking at is the 308-BA-20. I will probably pull the handle and low mount a red dot for urban distance shooting. These are made from Wilson barrel blanks but have yet to hear of one that dosen't shoot fantastic! I hope to be able to buy one for about $600 so quite a bit of difference! Has anyone hear heard of Chicago Gunsmith??? They are suppose to have upper ready to go??? Thanks!

Hi, I bought a DPMS lower and the lower kit and plan on building as I go. I am now looking at the barrel assembly. I was originally going to order a 308 BA-20 upper assembly but I'm thinking I would rather have a 18" barrel with a free float hand guard but still want the A2 gas block and detachable hand/sight grip handle. This will of course be with the upper with the fwd assist and shell deflector as I am left handed! I seem to be having trouble finding parts to do this? Am I not looking in the right spot any help or ideas on how to do this is appreciated!

Hi, Well I have gone ahead and bought a DPMS lower parts kit from Brownell and got the complete kit. Also got 2 Magpul Pmags so I can check how those fit. I have Powers seris 1 and 2 trigger,hammer jigs and thought I would play with the factory trigger before going to an after market. It also has a grip I'm going to try so I will see pretty soon what everyone is talking about! Right now I;m trying to learn about this platform, thanks everyone for the help!

Hi, Thanks for the pic 98,nice of you. I have a couple of friends that are professional gunsmiths,professional meaning it is what they do to put food on the table. When I mentioned this build they both looked at me and said ,"Don't you have M-14's and FALs already?" I said yes. They thought that those were better platforms for the 7.62/.308 cartridge than an AR-20 type rifle,but it seems like alot of people are crazy for these DPMS-308's!!! Thanks for the info!

Thanks Gentlemen, Any thoughts on the DPMS barrels? Am I better off just getting the DPMS upper,rather than making my own or is it better to go with another barrel and spend a little more money. Any favorite barrel or upper makers? Whats the story on the A3 upper forward assist? I see bolt carriers by JP but no forward assist notch cuts??? Any ideas on this? Thanks!

Hi imschur, Thanks for the info. What about the grip on a DPMS lower? I know a grip comes with the lower kit,but what if you want something different? What I want to build is the rifle with a Magpul PRS with the 1 inch extender and a DPMS 308 BA-20 upper with or with out the carry handle. Carry handle comes with the upper. I was going to build my own upper with a custom barrel but the cost of the bolt group,plus barrel plus upper plus hand guard really puts it up there and I have seen the BA-20 upper for under $600 on the Internet! I heard DPMS is using Wilson blanhs for their barrels but they seem to be accurate! Thanks again!

Hi, I have my DPMS .308 lower and I'm looking at lower parts kits,triggers,stocks,ect. Being new to the AR-type rifle in general I'm wondering about parts crossover on this receiver for triggers and the grip especially. Is there a list of what is usable on this receiver from the AR-15 rifle? I keep seeing small pin,big pin on the triggers??? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hi Matt, Thanks the receiver extension is a good idea. With that and the Magpul PRS,I should be good to go! I have membership at Botach and sure enough they have the Magpul for $161,can't beat that! Thanks for the help everyone!

Hi 98, Ok my mistake never heard of DSG,I assumed DS Arms? Went to the DSG site and was not impressed with the prices like you said. I can get the Magpul PRS for $200 but $160 would be better! E-mailed Botach last night and have heard nothing from them yet??? I guess part of the fun in putting one of these together is hunting parts? Right?

Hi 98, Thanks for the info,I'm actually an Engineer in the Merchant Marines. I have filled out the member form for Botach and I'm waiting on my status. I have built a few FALs before so the info on DS Arms is interesting! Whats the best deal on a barrel? I'm going to put together my own upper also. Was thinking of getting a Lothar Walther or a barrel a little better than what DPMS offers (Wilson?) Thanks again!

Hi, I just received my DPMS lower receiver and I'm starting to gather parts for a rifle. I'm rather tall and have a long LOP. Was wondering if someone with a Magpul PRS could tell me the longest LOP they could get out of that stock??? Thanks!
