  1. Thanks for the info guys. I recently installed my trigger group, (not easy since I had to do it twice after forgeting to place the selector switch during the first install.) Trigger pull went from 7.2# to a very crisp 4#. What was about a 1.7 moa is now about .8 moa. I'd recommend this to anyone.
  2. I'm an old bolt guy by training and profession. My opinions are based on those parameters. I'm just now delving into the 7.62 AR pattern rifle. Just got home from playing so I haven't had time to read the articles. Hopefully I'm not covering material already discussed. It all depends on what kind of shooting you intend to do and what your requirements are. If you are looking for accurancy and down range performance, your barrel length needs to be compatable with the type of round utilized. If you're throwing 147 to 150 gr down range at paper, then a 16" barrel will provide reasonable accuracy. However, if you're ranging out past 400 yards and want sub MOA accuracy a 20" barrel is the very minimum. My bolt gun uses a 24" bul barrel. My 7.62 AR is a 20" SI Defense SASS heavy profile barrel. Shooting match ammo (GM 175gr BTHP) anything over a 26" barrel will not enhance terminal performance. Please remember, I'm only talking about .308-7.62x51 NATO. Other calibers differ greatly. A light weight or pencil profile barrel will do nothing for your accurancy. It all depends on what you intend to use your rifle for. My bolt and AR are pigs at over 15 pounds each. Not good for room to room. But give me open sky and I can hold my own. Thanks for listening and shoot straight guys.
  3. Is the Timney AR-10 trigger assembly compatible with a DPMS style lower reciever?
  4. 1911 pattern semi automatic pistol. I actually prefer the 1911 to 19911A1 models., but you either go with a new Remington or an older manufacture.
  5. Stay with the factory magazines. Paraordnance have feed issues with some magazines. Up date the magazines with the Arredondo performance kit. 2 more rounds and a bumper pad to boot.
  6. Tripp Research 8 round magazines. Extended tube to handle the extra round, with bumper guard. Follower is composite with metal to engage the slide stop. Carried them on duty for a number of years (too many to count). Never had a failure to feed issue with these magazines. I trusted my life with them.
  7. Heads up. Received a 20" medium wieght barrel from S I Defense. Well made and very accurate. Speedy delivery too.
  8. 98z5v, No offense taken. Having been well acquainted with the AR platform since the 80's when our department allowed us to purchase for private ownership and duty carry during the 84 Olympics. As far as 7.62/.308, I'm a bolt guy. This is my first forray into this type of rifle and why I chose this site to get info I didn't have. And thanks to Imschur for the patience and assist. Jim
  9. Kinda figured that. So I just ordered the correct one from Midway. Thanks of the help.
  10. I think the problem was I was using an DPMS AR-15 rifle buffer which apparently is longer than the DPMS 308 rifle buffer.
  11. Problem solved. I milled .7" from the body of the buffer tube, drilled a new roll pin hole and it will now lock back. Waiting for my JP handguard and nut to arrive, then it's out to the range for function test , barrel break-in and zero.
  12. No. It seems to be the length of the buffer somehow. I'm using a standard DPMS AR-15 rifle length buffer, though I now note the DPMS 308 buffer is .7 inches shorter. It seems that is still too long. I'm wondering if I'd end up damaging the lower receiver by using a carbine length DPMS 308 buffer. The stop milled on the bolt carrier would seem to strike the area of the lower receiver where it mates with the buffer tube.
  13. Maybe I'm going crazy or just not seeing it. I'm using an A1/A2 buffer tube and rifle length buffer in my CMMG lower and DPMS upper with Magpul PRS stock. The problem is the bolt carrier will not slide back into the buffer tube enough to engage the bolt carrier stop. Taking out the spring and placing the buffer into the tube, it's still won't go into the buffer tube far enough. The buffer is a rifle specific 5 15/16 inches long which I believe is the standard length. A carbine buffer works fine. What am I missing?
  14. Funny, all the girls at the dance said it wasn't so. Thanks for the help guys.
  15. Does the .308 use a proprietary firing pin or is the standard AR-15 firing pin compatable?
