  1. I had some problems like that with mine too. The problem with mine was that the bolt was so tight in the carrier that even soaked with oil it was hard to cycle. After a couple hundred rounds it loosened up, but before that I couldn't figure out why the bolt wasn't locking back and I was having an FTE problem. Once the BCG cycled correctly I worked out a solution to the ejection problem, now everything works like it should.
  2. I've seen a lot of posts about failure to eject issues with new 308 builds, and lots of guys talking about having bought a slightly used LR308 only to find it had this issue--somebody gave up before they got to the solution. I tried 3 different magazine brands, six mags in all, different handloads, took everything apart a million times, smoothed everything out, still the same thing: spent brass on top of incoming round jammed in the chamber. First, as many others here have said, you need to run the BCG soaking wet. At first it was all I could do, especially with a round in the chamber at the range, to pull the bolt back out of battery. Sure, the chamber was tight too, but not that tight. It took 200+ rounds before the bolt would move smoothly in my dpms carrier. Never seen that in my Ar builds. All that extra resistance had to be part of it, but what it came down to was a weak extractor spring. (double spring type) I found two solutions, both worked. The first one was I got some tiny rubber o-rings. 3/32ID I think, and put one on the end of the ejector spring where it rests against the inner part of the bolt. Pain in the ass to put on and reassemble, but it stopped the problem. Second was I got an extractor spring from Fulton Armory, which was a little longer too, but has a rubber insert instead of the inner spring. That worked too. So now I have a collection of o-rings in case the spring weakens again. Problem solved. Just thought I'd share that because I know it comes up frequently. <thumbsup>
  3. Yeah, I'm thinking strongly about that as an add on upper to my 308. I'm also thinking about what parts to take off my other rifles for upgrades to them that I can transfer to the new rifle. Get a CTR for my 308, put the A1 on the new project. I see no one mentioned 6.5 Grendel. Any love for that round? Seems to be more accurate than some of the others. MikedaddyH says 6.8 SPC "dead on accurate." Other people finding it so? If so what barrel is best? I've read that accuracy isn't 6.8SPC's strong point.
  4. Thanks for all the tips, and the reasoning that goes along with. I should have mentioned that I reload, so that eases some issues. Budget isn't a big thing. I'm not trying to build on the super cheap, and I have time, but I don't want to spend 3 grand on it either <laughs>. Also, since I'm thinking mid-range, optics are the way to go. The only restriction really is the limit of an Ar15 lower. I'll take a close look at the 6.8 and the others as well, and let you all know when I have more of a plan. Course now that people are talking about an LR260, I'm thinking of another 80% project!! Maybe a 260 carbine with mid or rifle length gas. Yikes, looks like this is gonna cost 3grand anyway.
  5. So I decided to build an 80% receiver this time, and I'm thinking about trying out a different caliber. I have been a 5.56 and 7.62 shooter for a long time and have both of those on the AR platform now. I finished an LR308 on a Tactical Machining lower/DPMS upper with a Fulton Armory barrel last year, and I love it. I know that I can get barrels in a variety of calibers, but I don't know anything about most of the new stuff like 6.8SPC and 300 Whisper / Blackout, so I'm looking for any ideas. These days I'm just a range shooter, and the local range is limited to 600 yards, which is fine for the 308 but a bit much for my 223. Maybe something in between, but which?
  6. I recently bought a T/M lower from a guy on gunbroker for 220. and had it transferred to a shop in Burbank. w/taxes and transfer it was under 350. Also saw a DPMS 308 lower at Turner's outdoorsman in Pasadena a week or so ago, and it was less than 350. They are starting to show up a little more often in shops recently.
  7. Next step from an AR15 I guess. I've had a variety of ARs and other 5.56 rifles, as well as an M1A long ago. I liked that M1A, but I like the AR platform for its versatility, and the power and range of the 308 round on that platform is a real plus. I only shot my M1A with iron sights and I like that optics are easy to mount on my 308AR. Its more accurate with less work too.
  8. Surfing for answers to issues I have with my 308 AR! Also I was looking for load data on same. 308AR is about the first thing that comes up for either of those searches. Liked the fact that the site is dedicated to this platform and variants.
  9. Hello all. I've been lurking around this site for awhile now. Finally signed up to make it official! I'm a long time fan of the AR platform and recently built a 308 to add to my collection. I've read many posts here already but still have a few issues to work out with this new rifle which I will post elsewhere. I like that this site is dedicated to the 308 but has other AR stuff too. Here's a list of the stuff I put into this new rifle: Tactical Machining lower 2 stage trigger and LPK from Fulton Armory A1 stock SI Defense upper w/forward asst and cover Fulton Armory matt stainless 18.5" mid weight barrel w/rifle length gas Bennie Cooley tactical comp Troy gas block JP tactical free float tube w/2" rail sections upper and lower for iron sight and tripod DPMS bolt/carrier BCM charging handle Bushnell elite tactical fixed 10x scope. This thing is a dream to shoot and accurate as hell, but I am having feed issues still. I'll post questions on that elsewhere. Thanks for having me at this great site!!
