  1. Anybody happen to be familiar with this barrel? I've seen mentions of Brownell barrels around the forums. http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/barrel-parts/rifle-barrels/16-308-dpms-lw-mid-gas-barrel-sku080001020-56797-112679.aspx?mc_id=50000 This one: 080-001-020MB 16" 308 DPMS LW Mid Gas Barrel
  2. I've seen this barrel before. But, it doesn't show to be chromed or nitride? Or I am I missing that?
  3. So, I had a criterion barrel picked out at Fulton Armory. It is no longer available. I'm now back hunting for a 16" light weight chrome lined or nitride barrel. I could really care less as far as gas port location, specific metals, etc. 16" light weight chrome or nitride. Is that too much to ask? Anybody know of anybody making quality barrels like this?
  4. So, I'm switching back and forth between CMMG, DPMS, and Fulton Armory to find all the misc parts I need. Ejection Port Cover Ejection Port Cover Pin Ejection Port Cover Spring Forward Assist Assembly Charging Handle How is it that I have to buy all of these parts individually?! Is there a better place to buy? Just the ejection port cover is $20 and then I have to buy the pin and spring individually? Please tell me there is a better store/manufacturer that I don't know about.
  5. Cannot wait....
  6. That price is really good news. I'm glad I got my name on the list. How much were BCGs before the freakout?
  7. @Carne Frio, thanks for the tip on DSG. I had given up on finding any 20rnd mags for anything reasonable. I have 5 on backorder and fingers are crossed.
  8. I realize this is an old post, but it's not marked as sold.... #5 DPMS steel magazines still available? Those are 20 round? You just don't ignore a post for magazines....
  9. Thanks for all the info guys! I feel a lot more confident about my build! I'll have to post some pics when I get everything done. Although, it'll be a while.
  10. YES! That is what has been annoying. I can't find 17" barrels anywhere. I can't find 16" or 17" with mid or rifle length gas systems. Who makes these barrels? I have looked at Krieger, Nemo, DPMS, Rainier, Black Hole, etc. I don't see these kind of options available through any of them.
  11. Thank you. From my reading, this seems to be a very helpful, friendly, and polite forum. A rare gem on the friendly and polite front. I look forward to being a part of this community. Thanks for the encouragement on the 16" option and the buffer tip. I do want to keep this rifle relatively light and manageable.
  12. I am in the process of gathering parts for a AR308 based on a SI Defense matched receiver set. I want this gun to be a hog/predator hunting gun. Hog hunting requires hopping on and off the four wheeler and shooting free hand. Predator hunting could very well involve me shooting longer distances from a rest position. Obviously I need the barrel length to be conducive to mobility. Typically everybody goes for a 16" barrel for a light carbine. After reading, I want to avoid a 16" because it seems to be commonly agreed that carbine length gas systems cause greater recoil. So, I am looking to go with an 18" or 20" barrel with either a mid-length or rifle length gas system. I guess I am looking for guidance and advice from anybody that has experience with .308 setups similar to this. Is 20" heavy or long for moving around and free hand shooting? Is there any real performance difference between mid and rifle length gas systems? Am I nuts for being concerned about the carbine length gas system? In addition, I have hard time accepting the idea of shooting a .308 round out of a 16" barrel. It just seems crazy. That must be deafening and quite a fire ball.
