The BDS seemed well made. I just didn't like the design. It wasn't particularly substantial, comfortable, or practical. The gun never hung how I wanted it to. The hardware (and the ability to swap out hardware) was lacking.

UPDATE: I was really disappointed with the BDS sling that I originally bought. So I swapped that out for a VTAC. Love the VTAC. Birdcage is gone. AAC muzzle brake is fantastic. Really helps with controllability and will greatly discourage anybody from standing next to you while shooting. EOTECH 512 is gone. I got rid of it in favor of a Leupold AR 3x-9x scope and promptly returned it when the news broke of their issues. In the distant future I do hope to replace the gas system with an adjustable one and go with a light weight BCG, buffer, and spring. I think it'll help with recoil and weight. This gun doesn't cycle properly with a suppressor on it. I'll be trying to figure that out and there is a thread on this issue linked below.

This past weekend I FINALLY got to try out my 308 with a suppressor. An AAC muzzle break with a 7.62 AAC suppressor attached. However, I had cycling/FTF/FTE issues with the suppressor on. This is a non-adjustable gas system with Slash's XH carbine buffer. This gun cycles flawlessly with any ammo I throw at it (without a suppressor). I didn't get pictures, but as you can imagine with the force of Slash's XH behind it, a few cases/rounds got severely bent and scraped. Has anybody had issues cycling supersonic ammo with a suppressor? Any guidance on how to go about resolving this? I've linked to my original build thread for the basic idea of what this gun is.

Intro: I always love these arguments/discussions. Very interesting to see how things pan out. This time, I want to just jump in late as I am and give 2 cents. I'm not a world class shooter or reloader. I'm just a person with a relatively short lifetime of moderate shooting experience. And some convenient associations. About 15 years ago my dad got into palma shooting. He had a friend at work that is or was an olympic level palma shooter. My dad just happens to be an extremely experienced and capable shooter. Even at 60 years old with weakening eye sight he can shoot extremely well. With little to no regular practice at this point in his life. While he was getting into palma, I went to a handful of matches and shot a "space gun" (tricked out AR) in F class. I see palma and F class tossed around here a lot. I'm no expert but I have some input. However, limited that input is. What length is good for: The primary benefit extra barrel length lends is velocity. We all know this. We also all know that if a bullet goes from supersonic to subsonic while in flight, it seriously degrades long range accuracy. Excluding that minimum velocity concern, barrel length should have no impact on accuracy. Specific to palma, an extra benefit of a long barrel is the distance between your two sights. When bound into an uncomfortable position shooting a target 1000 yards away with iron sights, extra sight radius matters. Especially when the gun and ammo you are using are so precise that human ability is by far the limiting factor. F class and palma - A longer barrel gives you more velocity even while shooting a less than hot load. Everybody has their preferences and choices. However, it is easy to see how as long as your projectile stays supersonic at your given range you want it at the slower end of things. You probably wouldn't want to be shooting a high pressure round. A long barrel is going to give you more wiggle room on what powder load you shoot. You can conceivably go lower on pressure if need be and still maintain the needed velocity. What it doesn't help with: Consistency. As your projectile is moving down the barrel the barrel is moving. On a lower quality barrel/gun, the projectile is going to leave the barrel at a different point in that barrel's movement each shot. Ideally, your barrel moves the same way every shot and the projectile leaves the barrel at the exact same point in movement each time. A long barrel, if anything, would be a problem here. That movement would only be exaggerated more as the barrel gets longer. I'm a human: I don't know it all. There's way more I don't know than what I do know. I'm receptive to correction. I'm receptive to better explanations.The point of this forum isn't division. We should all be learning from each other.

Already did, and enjoying it greatly on my 308 carbine. If you have anything but a mecharmor on your rifle, you are wrong.

I find that having that second stage to pull up to and lean against is more steady and requires less to break than a single stage. A hair light single stage I have to engage the trigger from scratch when it breaks. Shooting long distance prone without a rest, you are bound into position with a sling. Similarly, my finger is somewhat bound against the second stage of the trigger.

2 stage. Jewell, if you can get one. If not, Geissele. Pull through that first stage while the planets align and just break that icicle when your sight picture is right. A single stage would either have no travel and break at the slightest touch or have a very smooth travel. Neither would lend itself to long range precision shooting if I'm the one doing the shooting.

I think winning should drive training. A ex military and former LEO that does training taught me that the determination to win a gun fight usually has a better end result than the drive to survive it. I don't mean to sound rude. And I don't mean to invalidate your thoughts on it. But I think there's a big difference between the two and it could matter for somebody here one day.

Odd. My 16" 308 carbine is pretty violent. I can shoot it well enough but it's nothing like an AR15. I have Slash's extra heavy buffer in it. Would a compensator/break really make the difference for me? I plan on getting one eventually, but I can't imagine it making that big of a difference.

The chances of a headspace issue on a gun like this is very low. Buy quality components from reputable manufacturers and I wouldn't be very squeamish about test firing without checking. However, the right thing to do is check it. It's really unlikely you'll find an issue. Worst case, you exchange or try a different bolt.

First blood. About a 50lb pig me and my dad shot. An ideal pig for eating, but it had a 300blk and my 308 hit it from behind. So it may be a little tore up.

I have a SI-Defense NiB BCG. The bolt and barrel headspace fine. No issues. The gun operates well and seems reliable so far. I'll put 150 more rounds through it this weekend in a CQ defense class. Shooting at a higher rate in the heat should help flesh out any lingering issues.

Yes I have. About 150 rounds. However, the ammo I was using was over pressured. I have had trouble sighting it in because I can't get consistent results at 100 yards. I don't know the issue yet, but I suspect the ammo was the problem. I'll get back to you once I get it sorted out.

You could probably use that barrel extension to install the muzzle device. But you may want a barrel vise block to do that. Any handguard that has a custom barrel nut will include the wrench. If it's a standard barrel nut you may need to get your own barrel nut wrench. Torque wrench and vise obviously. A good set of gunsmith punches is pretty helpful. A magazine well vise block is also helpful.

I can't see any mention of what you're wanting to use this rifle for.... If I wanted to reach out and touch something and hit whatever it is with a lot of energy, I'd use 338 lapua. I'd take it over .50 BMG. However, if you want an accurate hunting rifle that has enough power to kill North American critters, .308 is plenty. The most you may need is 7mm Mag or 300 Win Mag. So I ask, what's this thing for?

Zebra644 is good to go. I bought a Geissele SSA from him. Flexible and easy to work with. I sent money, he sent the trigger, and I sent him more money. Easy.

Yea, I really like that 512. It's my first time to use a holographic. I think it's the best option for my intended use. I'm open to any magnifier recommendations y'all have.

My father in law giving it a try today while sighting it in. His first time to ever fire a gun.

Test fired and sighted it in today. I ran out of time at the range but it's dancing around the red within 2 or 3 inches at 100 yards. The stock trigger that came in the CMMG LPK is pretty bad. A Geissele SSA trigger will get here Monday via our 308ar.com brother Zebra664. I can't wait to get back out to the range with the new trigger once it's installed. I did not get to weigh individual parts. But, I'm still wanting to get a overall weight and major components weights. I'll update when I do. This thing is relatively light and has a fair amount of recoil. It's really fun to shoot. Plenty of guys at the range were admiring from afar. Got some questions and inspired some future 308ar brothers.

That's pretty sharp. I don't have any machining abilities or tools. How did you make those?
