  1. I think you hit it dead on.
  2. thank you very much!!!
  3. just put a link to google images with safe search off <thumbsup> haha sidenote... not sure where your profile name came from but when I see a post of yours I cannot help but to sing "edgecrusher" by Fear Factory...
  4. same here... DPMS told me that if I want to buy anything for my rifle(hand guard at that time) look for LR308 things as they are BASICALLY the same. Never thought to ask for the difference.
  5. the hand guard is a beast to get off this rifle for whatever reason... but the mag well is stamped .308 WIN. Though there is without a doubt some problem, I have now found(after being "detailed" at the shop) that SEVERAL different brands of factory ammo are working while others are not. I literally went through EVERY brand and weight my gun shop hand including their person stock, finding what worked and didn't. I may be wrong here but I have always been under the impression that Barnes ammo was of "better" quality, found out the Rachel doesn't like feeding them either, but anyways I found and acceptable round to use for deer and coyotes (ordered 5 boxes) while my competition rounds still function fine. Problem solved...Er... managed. Thank you everyone for the knowledge, pointers, and the time to type them for me.
  6. oh man that made me laugh!!!!! as for the pictures, understood
  7. I picked up a Horus Vision 4-16 with the H-59 reticle LOOOVE it. I loved my vortex but for literally the same price I got some glass that had the same power and as clear or clearer picture AND a reticle that blows anything I have ever used right out of the water. If you can take the time to get used to the reticle and see exactly how much easier it makes distance shooting you will never go back. I bought the companies scope because I didn't have the money for something better BUT if you like ANY of Horus Visions reticles they do come in some NF, S&B, and many other big name optics!! Definitely check them out!!!
  8. So my gunsmith buddy brought me over several of his store bought competition rounds along with some misc stuff. The Remington and Winchester worked fine, the Federal and Mil-Surp did NOT, and neither did any of his hand loads. His thoughts "the two brands that worked were in his opinion the best quality rounds he brought by far..." he thinks I may have little bit of a short throat AND a match chamber which is why my rifle is being sooooo picky with the ammo. He took the gun with him to confirm this. I will know by tomorrow evening. If that is the case I am fine running only the Rem or Win ammo. BTW he read everything that was posted in this thread looking for a good laugh at what people thought(much like watching the idiots on sons of guns) but he wanted me to post that he was very surprised at how well your answers or thoughts were in regards to my issue and he apologizes for the offence you felt when you read the first sentence of this. "good forum, good tips...I might have to join this one"
  9. YES HE WAS!!
  10. funny thing was we had one run 200m after being hit perfectly with the 338 R.U.M. he still hasn't lived that down. My buddy still tells him "man that deer is out there aways, wanna use the AR so it doesn't run too far"
  11. My latest buck!
  12. I actually prefer to hunt public, I like to fluff ego when I pull a nice buck or several deer out of public ground. The key is to go where nobody thinks the deer would ever be. As I am new here and cant seem to find some rules as my comp is being dumb, would hunting pictures be a bad idea? Id love an "AR Hunting" thread!
  13. HAHA no, his .556 is for 100m and closer, and though I don't fee its the best deer round but to his credit he has never had a deer run more than 50m after being hit. Our large cal. rifles are for +800m on Muleys.
  14. I second this, would be awesome. I learned most of my trade from my uncle living on the res. (Choctaw), and would love to hear(read?) other peoples skill sets and pointers.
  15. Watched a hunting show years ago with my dad.... Hunters find a MONSTER elk on a cliff, they MISS the elk, he tries to run, slips and falls to his death... It was one of the saddest things I have seen, horrible... but I always remember it when I take an animal. I would have NEVER taken that shot...EVER. Neither myself or my father have watched a big name hunting show again.
  16. NICE! I usually go with the argument of, "Our guns hold the same amount of ammo(In my state during deer season) the only difference is you work a bolt while I do not. Would you be upset if a single shot guy gave you grief about your bolt gun or lever gun? I personally find autoloaders to be more ethical. I am ashamed to admit that last year I made a VERY bad hit on a Whitetail doe, I broke the shot, saw the impact, made my correction and made a perfect second hit dispatching her on impact. I feel that would have almost certainly gone the other way had I had to manipulate a bolt.
  17. Sorry should have quoted ya in the above! She's not too dressed up, going to get dipped in Multicam and getting my other eotech tomorrow in time for deer season.
  18. Ok, here's the SBR 300 Blackout
  19. Wow, as long as I have been hunting here we have had a 5 round limit... I don't mind that until a group of coyotes show up... then I start with the harsh words haha. As far as the brand names go I fully understand, I show up with my 870 and I'm treated like a weekend warrior, show up with the SBE 2 and all of a sudden I'm one of the guys...That being said I do talk down to my friends with the .556 and the 65 Grendel, all in fun.
  20. My Remington R-25 Her name is Rachel.. <3
  21. Every year two friends and myself deer hunt together. We mainly Whitetail hunt but we usually throw a Muley in there as well. Our firearms are as follows...their names are changed for their privacy. Myself: R25 .308 Suppressed SBR 300 Blackout Custom .408 CheyTac Ben: Standard AR15 Custom 338 Lapua Scott: 65 Grendel Custom 338 R.U.M. When we bump into fellow deer hunters they often have something rude to say usually involving the word "overkill," like we see a deer and empty the mag Rambo style. On the same note they drool over our bolt guns... is it me or would it at least be more acceptable to scoff at the big bores? So my question is; Does anyone else run into when hunting with an auto-loader or is it just our neck of the woods?
  22. that is by far the worst ammo I have ever seen... id run steel case in my AUG before I put CBC in my R25 again....
  23. I only shot 20 rounds of the CBC then sold it, all the other ammo has been reloaded by me. New brass and good dies (I competition shoot and have never had a problem with this ammo in my other rifle). I am picking up two boxes of the best quality off the shelf .308 after work. Called DPMS and learned that the first lot of R25's did have some issues with a short throat... took some 147's 168's and 180's all loaded to "standard" specs... all had the same issue. Ill update later tonight after I get the factory ammo though I feel it wont make a difference. I feel I know I what is wrong and I have just been trying to deny it. I have shot Mil Surp in my rifle before but it was before(maybe 6 rounds) and after figuring out why my rifle wouldn't set off the thicker primers, I do not recall and issues with that ammo. I will make note to pick up some of that as well. Thank you everyone for the info thus far. In short, tonight I will be trying "shelf" ammo of good quality and surplus ammo. I will update as soon as I am done somewhere around 2000 Mountain Time.
  24. Thank you. Finally decided to make an account here rather then just ghosting all the time. By the way Ill be the first to admit that I am not well versed in firearms. Two of my best friends are gunsmiths so when something goes wrong I hand it over to them. This time I wanna see if I can dig up something on my own.
  25. Well to start this is my first post o here so HELLO. Now to get to it. I have a Rem. R-25 and when I first picked it up all those years ago I had some sort of feeing issue (I don't remember what it was I was young and didn't have a clue about AR's) but my local gunsmith thought maybe I had a "short throat," so I loaded some compressed rounds and never looked back. Flash forward to now and I bought some CBC M80 Ball ammo... bad idea... Failure to load, failure to strip, failure to extract, ripped case heads, cracked case necks, and couldn't even get a 2" group at 100m. Took the few old compressed hand loads I had and shot like a dream... loaded up some new rounds(not compressed) and out of 10 rounds 2 will strip, feed, and extract every time while the others will not. More often then not the round will not feed all the way into the chamber. If I drop the mag and drop a round in by hand it wont slide all the way in(the compressed rounds will) and I have to send the bold home to seat it the rest of the way, but why have mag gun that you cant use a mag in. The two sets of hand loads are 180g I don't know what the CBC was. So I guess in short... what the heck is wrong? This happens with either the factory 4 round mag and both of my p-mags. The photos are of "gravity fed" rounds, you can see how the compressed round seats further down then the standard round. Travis
