  1. Thanks for the reply's, I'll go with the clamp version...
  2. Hello everyone, I have a dpms oracle 308 and will be getting a new apex handguard and will get and adjustable gas block at the same time. Which is better ? Looking at these 2 from Syrac http://www.syracordnance.com/collections/gas-blocks/products/gen-ii-750-adjustable-low-pro-solid-gas-block http://www.syracordnance.com/collections/gas-blocks/products/copy-of-gen-ii-750-adjustable-low-pro-clamp-on-gas-block-melonite-finish Thanks for the help.
  3. What is a brand for cheap target ammo ?
  4. Thanks, I saw the 500rnd can of wolf for about .45 cent per round, is it cheaper to reload or you can't beat this price reloading your self ?
  5. Thanks for the advice. I'm so glad I got the 308, the day I ordered my rifle I was 99% sure about getting a 6.8. Mainly because I never shot a 308 before but the guys at work said go for ammo availability. I will probably get into reloading, (saving my brass) because of cost of hunting ammo ($19/box 20rnds). Again thanks everyone, the info on this site is amazing.. After I get more into shooting, I'll be able to justify a custom build, that way I'd have a backup rifle when I go hunting. :)
  6. So, I don't have to replace the gas block for the apex to fit ? Thought I'd have to get a low profile gas block for any free float tube.
  7. Thanks all, I already know what I want next, a 12" apex handguard and a adjustable gas block. Shooting 100yds is new to me, it will take a lot of practice. :) Do you recommend a new spring and heavy buffer ? The recoil is not really noticable with 150grain bullets. Was also considering a muzzle break to tame muzzle rise.
  8. Well I finally got my first rifle, dpms oracle 308. I went sight it in this weekend and have a couple of question. Used mobil1 full syn , ran it really wet and cleaned every 5 shots. Shot 20 rnds of tula and 28 rnds of winchester 150grn powerpoints. When is the barrel considered broken in ? My scope is a vortex 4-12x50 AO, sighted it in and noticed a big difference in the practice ammo and the hunting ammo. But what do you leave the AO set to when hunting ? Do you have to adjust every time ? 25yds, 50yd, 100yd, 200yds , infinity BTW, I've only hunted with a 12g shotgun and my new rifle barely has any recoil. I do notice the muzzle rise but I could shoot this rifle all day. Also noticed my casing were ejecting about 2 oclock, what does that mean ? over gassed or under gassed ? Thanks for all the help and advise. Almost forgot this only cost me $800 ($50 rebate and $300 reward points at basspro)
  9. Well , this is my first rifle, just hunted with a 12g shotgun. Will be going to the range this weekend to sight in my scope. Plan to hog and deer hunt with. All I knew was that I wanted a semi auto rifle to hunt with. Got my dpms oracle 308 with a vortex 3-9x50 scope.
  10. Don't know what distance to hunt hogs, never been hunting them. Plan on going w/ friends to some places in Texas to hunt hogs. I just don't know but with deer I'd think anywhere from 20 to 100 yards. Hogs , hmm at a lost. One place is supposed to be between Houston and San Antonio . Would like to do some type of "Stalking" which I'd think you'd have to be very quick , in case the hogs come at you. If I'd have to guess , I'd say 20 to 100yrds... thanks everyone for the advice.
  11. Thanks guys, just waiting for Cabelas or BassPro to get them in so that I can handled them. Emailed dpms and they said both have the same felt recoil but the major difference is the recon is 308/7.62 and the hunter is only 308. I will just be hunting with this rifle so I'll wait to decide on which. I use to 28" shotgun but I'm sure either would be fine. Can't wait to get either one, thinking of also doing some night time hog hunting in the basin. (Breaux Bridge side). Was looking at these 2 scopes: Nikon M 308 4-16x42 or the Leopold VX-2 3-9x50 . Sure either would be fine for deer hunting but what do you hog hunt with ? iron sites ??
  12. Hello everyone, Been doing a lot of reading as I have never shot an AR but I want to start hunting deer and hogs. I've only hunted wood ducks in a swamp with a shotgun. I'm so excited about hog and deer hunting, I've been looking for places to hunt in Texas and Mississippi . I've settled on an AR in 308 caliber over the 6.8 due to ammo availability. I don't reload right now but may in the future. I plan to buy a complete rifle for hunting short range 0-200 yrds. In the swamp you seldom get a 60 yrd shot. But I'm sure that will change when I shoot some Texas hogs and Mississippi deer. Right now I've narrowed down my selection between the new G2 Recon and Hunter rifles. Waiting for Cabelas and BassPro to get them in so that I can handled them. I did contact DPMS and they said that the Recon has a med upper and that the Hunter comes with a light weight upper. Not sure if that makes a difference.. The Recon weighs 8.5lbs(16"med) and the Hunter 7.76lbs (20"barrel light), the Recon does come with iron sites which may work for stalking hogs and may be a plus in case some hogs decide to come at me while I'm hunting them, don't know cause I've never hunted hogs before. Just thought I could remove the scope for that type of hunting. The Hunter doesn't have iron sites, would have to wait for someone to make a 15" hand guard then get some backup sites to have that option. Any advice ? Thanks, Jose
