Actually the color of the Duracoat was supposed to match a chocolate brown stock set from a ArmaLite AR-10. It wasn't even close to the color on the color chart after it dried on the hand guards so I sprayed a A2 stock and A1ish grip I acquired also the magazine. At first I was unhappy with the color but I've grown to like it a lot. I added a Battle Arms serrated mag release button. It almost looks like the original AR-10 mag release. It's a bit longer to and works better in my billet lower receiver. It shoots very well I've gotten some good groups out of it with the cheap MKE 7,62x51. When i have time I'll take it out with some Gold Medal Match ammo I have to see how good it really shoots.

Thought I'd update on how my rifle looks finished. Here are a few pictures. I have around 500 rounds through it now. Just finished up a 16 inch carbine with a collapsible stock it's a tad lighter than this one. It runs real well had to go with a H3 buffer and 8 inch buffer tube to make it run reliably.

I think Chuck over at Gunlab is doing a Sudan Version of the AR10 and a AR-16... If I remember right the early Hollywood ArmaLites had a thin steel barrel wrapped in fiberglass... Those failed in the 56 rifle trials... I don't think the Dutch AR-10's weighed in at 6lbs...
-
Haven't weighed it... It seems to weigh about as much as my AR-15A2... Could have cut the barrel to 16 or 18 shave some weight... But I like it just the way it turned out... Wish I had better machine tools I'd whip out a A2 fixed carry handle upper for the LR-308 style lowers...

I gave it the tundra test last weekend... Temps here were -40 so i put the rifle in my trunk for a couple days to chill it out... Went out to our range and ran 100 rounds thorough it when it was a warmer -20... Functioned flawless my carrier group was dripping wet with Mobile 1 and seemed to like the extreme cold... Very happy with this build!!! Now I'm going to have to do a shorty!!!

I've built up a couple LR-308 style rifles... The bolts for these builds are factory DPMS LR-308 both purchased from Midway... One bolt has a rubber bumper instead of a spring in the extractor... Are the rubber pieces worth a poop or should the extractor be replaced with one that takes a spring??? I haven't had issues with it just wondering... My first build spit out the ejector when we were out shooting a while back... I replaced it with a new one but it stuck out of the face of the bolt enough so it wouldn't feed right... I took a stone and took a bit off so it was recessed in the face of the bolt and would strip rounds and feed right... Is this common when replacing a ejector to have to trim it??? Thanks in advance!!!

Thanks!!! It shoots like a laser!!! Sports a vintage AimPoint 5000 now I may skip the carry handle... Here are pics of my receiver engravings i forgot to post them... Yep I ripped off the old ArmaLite logo...

Well it's pretty much a done deal... Made A1 hand guards fit... Just need a carry handle to complete the retro look...
-
All the parts are in now to get the barrel threaded and put it togeather... It's a lot lighter than my first build when i mocked it up with my other lower... And I have to wait for my lower to be engraved can't wait to get it back... Here are pictures of the parts pile and the mock up...

need help finding a 308 barrel, 16" w/ rifle gas
cwikjr replied to george_995's topic in Building a .308AR
i have a 16 inch rifle length gas system from Alex Pro Firearms it was $180 if I remember right... It shoots and functions well very happy with it... Here is a link to there sight... http://www.apfarmory.com/ -
I'm going with the 20 inch barrel for balance... My 20 inch .556 AR's seem to balance better than carbines... Going with standard hand guards and a taper pinned FSB... Wish some one made a fixed carry handle upper with A2 sights for the LR-308 never have liked flat tops... I received the barrel Monday it's pretty nice looks like it has a chrome lined bore and chamber... I'll try to get som pics of the parts pile before I start putting it togeather been super busy with 3 jobs,,,

I really like my last build except that it's pretty heavy... So going to see if I can make this one a bit lighter... Parts as follows... DPMS Flat top upper. 20 inch DPMS Light weight hunter barrel... Quintin Defense 80% lower... A2 Stock with .308 buffer and spring... DPMS LPK... Still need a carrier group and hand guards or ff rail... Going to go with a classic style look with a fixed FSB and Carry Handle... Either a regular A2 or a set of A1 triangle hand guards... Looking at the PRI carbon fiber Delta FF Tube... I like it a lot but it's kind of pricy... I have one of the DPMS A3 flat top uppers with the dust cover and forward assist for use with the carry handle... Should I use a F marked FSB or a standard A2 FSB??? I'll post pics when I get some of it put together...

Barrel and handguard opinions (and saying hello)
cwikjr replied to Luconi's topic in Building a .308AR
Take a look at Alex Pro Firearms... I used there 16 inch barrel with a rifle length gas system it was $180... I have a full stock it's a soft shooting rifle... I like there free float tube also it ran $190 for the 15 inch one... They made me a deal I couldn't refuse to assemble my parts... -
I have around $1055 into my build with the 80% lower jig... I acquired my parts from Midway,JSE Surplus,DPMS,Quentin Defense & Alex Pro Firearms... I watched Midway for clearance items for the LR-308 and DPMS has some of there parts on sale also for Gen 1 LR-308 rifles... Took a few months to gather everything I needed but I saved myself a couple hundred bux... APF assembled my upper for $25 when I bought the rail from them...

I've been running it through my new build... So far bang every time and they even hit the target... Hope there is more left on payday I'll pick up a bunch for blasting ammo... For $10 a box it's worth it...
