For factory loads, I'm kind of liking the SSA 168gr SCHP. They are loaded with the Barnes TTX bullet and very accurate. I like to hunt, so I was looking for a very accurate hunting round. So far, I like these.

Thanks for the welcomes.... My son wants me to build him a .308 too. Yep, I can see the Ben Franklins flying already. Just got through building my AR15 a short time ago. It turned out very nice, but deinitely wasn't cheap. Oh well, it's just money, right?

randall@ar15barrels.com has already gotten back to me. Right after the first of the year, I'm sending my upper to him to cut off two inches and turn down the barrel to .75" diameter and thread the end of it.

Thanks for the welcomes. Who would be a gunsmith that would specialize in this and about much scratch would I be looking at to have it done?

I would like to shave some weight off the end of it. Not any barrel options I can see but a 16" carbine. Any suggestions?
