  1. You are 100% correct. My mis-thinking. It was indeed the EJECTOR that I removed to rectify the problem. My bad and I apologize if I mislead anyone
  2. I kinda fell off the earth for a bit, but here is an update. I removed the extractor on the bolts and the problem is/was solved. They all head space perfect. Thanks to all members for their help and input
  3. Wash, I am going to try it from a magazine feed. Previousy I dropped the round in by hand and let the bolt go on it. Plus this is a better dummy then the last so we will see what happens
  4. the Ares barrel is stainless and the bolt is nickel boron I also originally tried the headspace with just the bolt and barrel before I assembled them and had problems. I wrote that off to the ejectors as they seem so damn tight and strong. I also did "slam" the bolt on a dummy round and played hell trying to pull the bolt back. Its like it just wasnt coming back. When it finally did release the bolt, with the extractor removed, they round was so jammed in I had to force it out with a cleaning rod
  5. all BCG are lubed. When the chamber is empty they close and function perfect. As long as nothing is inthe chamber the bolts/cam will rotate and lock fine. The problem it the moment the gages or dummy is put in then they wont rotatate and close at all. Gas key and handles appear to be going in fine. I even tried swapping the charging handles and still had the problem. With the gages in the handles will close all the way and lock but the bolts wont budge. I believe if I really tried to put the pressure on them Could maybe force them to close but that aint right For the record the gages are Forester and the dummy is a factory round I dumped the power out of and pulled the primer. I am going to try removing the ejectors to see how that works. I know it has to be me on my end so I will go thru the whole thing from step one
  6. wont close on the dummy either. I just find it had to believe it is a short chamber issue in two guns and 3 different bolts. They close and function perfect as long as there is nothing in the chamber
  7. I am building 2 .308 rifles and have run into the same problem with both Neither one will pass a headspace test. The bolt won't close on a "go" gage, or a "no go" gage or even a dummy 308 round. It stays open and comes nowhere near being closed. I tried swapping bolts between rifles, no difference I tried a third bolt I had on hand, same thing I tried it with the extractor in as well as out, still nothing. They will fully close without anything in the chamber, but not with the dummy round or headspace gages. one rife is a DPMS carbine style barrel with a DPMS bolt and DPMS upper The other is an Ares Armor barrel with a DPMS upper and an Ares Armor bolt. Any suggestions or help here would be appreciated.
  8. I considered that. I also considered removing some of the shoulder of the barrel. In reality that would be a lot less area. Sound like a plan?
  9. Typical 18 inch carbine profile barrel. The only thing it had was the A2 style front sight. No sight post, spring pr detent. The sight was pinned to the barrel with 2 tapered pins. I was obvious when the sight came off that it was on when the barrel went into the finish tank as the metal was white under the sight. It was just a barrel that was purchase with plans to make a weapon, so no other "parts" were with it. I will try to upload pictures if needed later today
  10. The real thing, a DPMS .308 lower, not a DPMS style/profile Let me know what you have or who might be selling them
  11. I bought a new DPMS .308 barrel in the carbine style profile. It came with the A2 style sight and that was about it. The sight was pinned on. When I removed the sight to install the handguard end cap the sight won't go on properly; that is, the pin holes don't line up because of the width of the handguard cap. Shy of putting on some sort of floating handguard is there another "fix" I can use?
  12. I have a Diamondhead VRS on mine, they are also the clamp on type. To date I have had no problem with it.
  13. I collect pre-WW2 USMC uniforms and field equipment The oldest I have is a 1812 uniform with items running all they way up until Pearl Harbor
  14. I am looking for a 2 piece .308 carbine lenght handguard that would be simular to the MagPul model for the M4 models. I have a 308 delta ring and am having a hard time trying to find one that will work. Any suggestions
  15. For the 308, 12 inch in length Must be regular size, no "slim" designs
