  1. That may be the case. I just looked at the specs on mid length barrel. On my Anderson, where it tapers down for the gas block is 9" and the gas port is about 9.25". It guess it should be 8.75" and 9" They stated it was DPMS LR308 pattern, but with those measurements, it's a armalite AR-10 carbine length barrel. on the other hand, a gut that bought one from PSA already built had the same problem with the gas tube being too short and short cycling. This is my first black rifle and I'm just ecstatic that when I pull the bang switch, it goes bang.
  2. I'm no pro either and I was kinda thinking that. I was a cheap ass and of course didn't spend the extra $20 for an adjustable gas block. I probably shouldn't of used ZQI NATO on its maiden voyage, but it came down to two boxes of that or only one of .308 Rem. I was reading a post on ar15.com similar to my problem and they told the guy "spray the bcg down with lube the way a woman uses hair spray". I thought I was running it wet, but after 20 rounds the piston rings were dry. So I did and it ran smoothly, but the ejector still shaved off some brass.
  3. Perhaps I'm getting too eager? I've read of people using polishing compound on the lugs. Is this something that will work itself out with a higher round count? Also, there is brass shavings all over the bolt face and it looks to be from the ejector when the bolt rotates. They're round flecks. Looks like someone poured goldschlagger on the bolt. Here's the markings on the casings.
  4. Worked out pretty well. I think I'm going to have to get the dremel out and polish down the sharp edges on the lugs. I don't have a decent scope yet, so I didn't shoot past 30 yards.
  5. Pretty badass! Although 8 out of 40 rounds failed to feed. 4 of which got stuck on the lugs and 4 times the bolt went into battery without a round in the barrel. I hosed it down with frog lube and ran great after that. This was at 30 yards with sighting in a cheapo truglo red dot. The last 3 rounds went through the same hole.
  6. I'm hoping it's awesome! It'll be a definite win if the 5.56 priced .308 barrel performs well. I'll let you know.
  7. Here's another pic from someone that bought a complete PA-10 not long ago. This confirmed that it wasn't a beginner's mistake on my part.
  8. Thanks. Not yet... I picked up a couple boxes of 7.62 NATO for $9.99 at wally world. But with the kids being out of school for holiday weekend and wife working all weekend, it just isn't happening. I have my eyes set on Tuesday when everyone is back at work and the range is empty. The only scope I have is a cheap no-name hand me down and not expecting much @ 100 yds. I may be pleasantly surprised.
  9. I just finished my first black rifle build. I chose the PSA PA-10 for the awesome price. I completed it for only $750. I bought the upper, lower, LPK from PSA, $94 barrel from Anderson and bcg from radical firearms. Got the mid-length gas tube from a local black rifle shop and had a slight problem. The gas tube was exactly 5/16" too short and short cycling is common for their rifle due to this because the tube is too short they sell and tell customers to buy. Fortunately I discovered it before I was finished and bought an armalite AR-10 carbine length tube that is 12--1/16" which is 5/16" longer. Apparently they cannot tell customers to buy this one because of copyright reasons from armalite. Now that's customer service... So hopefully you're reading this first before you buy the wrong tube. Here's some pics of both.
  10. Its finally done!!!! Thanks guys!
  11. I ended up with a bcg from radical firearms with serrations and the forward assist does indeed work and is functional. The FA is in the same place on the upper as a 5.56 upper, not in the place as a DPMS upper.
  12. Armalite12-1/16 "carbine length" fits perfectly. I wonder why they don't just put this in there to start with? The person that said it was because of copyrights is probably right. Now to try to find some range time this weekend!
  13. Question, does armalite threaded barrels use 5/8 x 24 tpi? While looking for that gas tube, I found a badass muzzle brake on sale for $20.
  14. I've filed a complaint and it has got me nowhere. I read somewhere that the mid length PA-10 is suppose to use an armalite 12-1/16 gas tube but doesn't because of copyrights by armalite. They can't even suggest you use one. It's not the barrel length, I used an Anderson dpms pattern with 9" gas port, it's the upper receiver that isn't proportionally correct for AR-15 gas tubes.
  15. Thanks to you guys, I'm becoming a bit of an armchair expert at a gun I've never even shot. I'd be pretty screwed if it weren't for joining 308ar.com.
  16. The dot on the ruler represents where the armalite gas tube will sit, which is 5/16 longer than what psa recommended. Can everyone agree that this is where it should be? I talked to a friend with a PA-10 which he bought built from PSA and has the same short gas tube and he's having problems short cycling on all ammo.
  17. My PA-10 build just got pushed over the $750 mark with this purchase. So if it will run like a sewing machine and punch paper at 100 yds, I'll call it winning. I was thinking about it last night how much research I've put into it to not have problems, and so far this is the first. Well besides the DPMS handguard being too long. Their staff is ignorant and I'm sure they only follow a troubleshooting algorithm on their computer with no real world experience with their products. No regrets so far.
  18. you're absolutely right. I just took the time to measure it and an armalite 12-1/6" tube will fit perfectly. I just ordered one. Thanks.
  19. Well, I'm ordering a BCG today and in the meantime, I'll head up to a local gun shop that specializes in black rifles. Hopefully they'll have an armalite AR-10 gas tube to try out.
  20. Isn't theirs 12.25? That pic is at an angle to avoid the flash shining back. It's only 1/4" short.
  21. It all worked out.... I hope. I ended up only cutting 1/4" off the tubular handguard and not 5/8" I'm glad I got that measurement right. Then after assembling it, it looked as though there was another problem. The gas tube was still a bit short inside the upper. I searched all over the web and found a post on ar15.com stating that was normal for that in the PA-10. The gas port on the barrel was exactly 9" and tube was 11-3/4". Take a look and tell me what you think. Palmetto state says that their gas tubes aren't proprietary and are the same as carbine, mid and rifle from the AR-15.
  22. One more.... I've noticed a lot of 308 bolt carriers don't have FA serrations. The PA-10 upper has a FA. I was looking at Anderson bcg's so there would less of a chance of headspacing issues and they don't have FA serrations. Is it completely necessary to have them? My rifle's purpose will mainly be for hunting if that's a factor in it.
  23. Thank you. Sorry for the noob questions, but they are now ones I won't have to ask again.
  24. My biggest concern is that I'm going to shell out $200 on a bcg that may not be compatible with my upper.
