  1. Someone mentioned M14's? Here's my Bula Forge M21.
  2. I would actually sell a few of my AR15's just to buy more .308 AR's parts to assemble more rifles, but it's such a buyers market now, there's no way I could recover even 80 percent of the value of mine. When you can buy a bargain AR15 for $400.00, it's hard to get $1000.00 for my Spike's with Noveske barrel or my Rock River lowers with White Oak uppers. I have some good all Rock Rivers too, but when a local gun shop has the bargain DPMS AR15 carbine for $399.00, the average Joe is going to go with the less expensive every time. I love hammering steel with my .308's, here's a picture of me shooting my DPMS G2 Varmint slinged up, shooting from 300 to 500. I can hear the hits very well at 500 with the .308, barely at all with the 5.56.
  3. Yes, I dialed in my come ups for the ranges shot, so shooting on freshly painted steel targets, I started at 300, was right on the money! My spotter said the five round group was very nicely centered and elevation was good, so I went to 400, same result, looking good! Next went on to the 500, nicely centered and elevation was right there too! Also, only one miss out of fifty rounds, I called it. After verifying my come ups, I just continued to shoot to check for any differences in my come ups because of the barrel heating up and for reliability, no disappointments yet! So far, 75 rounds through the rifle. If not rained out on Tuesday, will probably shoot another 100 rounds. Thanks for the welcome!
  4. Thanks all, good to be here!
  5. I shot with a rear bag and a short ten round magazine.
  6. Just signed up here yesterday, was able to introduce myself and I mentioned I would be shooting my new build, this Spikes Tactical .308. Parts are as follows....Livewire upper/lower, Spikes bolt carrier, Fulton bolt headspaced to Criterion 1/10 24 inch barrel, Midwest handguard, Geissele SSA-E trigger, Spikes small parts, DPMS A2 stock, Spikes pistol grip. Scope is a SWFA SS with SWFA mount. Shooting was done today at the VETS Shooting Center in Russell, Arkansas. Targets were steel at 300, 400 and 500 yards. Previous 100 zero on my own home range. I only shot Federal XM80C 149 grain ammo, will shoot some match next time. I used a rear bag and a short ten round magazine With fresh paint on the targets, I fired my first group on 300. My ol' shooting buddy was spotting, he said the group was hovering around MOA for the five rounds, then adjusted for 400, fired a group, said it looked good, then went to 500. Next group at 500 was hovering at MOA as well, but we did not go down range to measure, so that was just speculation, it did appear to be a very nice cluster. The rest of the shooting was just hammering steel and observing if the hot barrel would change point of impact, it did not. I fired fifty rounds, no malfunctions, good accuracy, I'm well pleased so far with this rifle!
  7. Thanks for the welcome!
  8. The Spikes Tactical, I assembled with a Criterion 1/10 stainless 24 inch barrel, Midwest Industries handguard, Spikes bolt carrier with Fulton bolt headspaced to the barrel, Geissele SSA-E trigger, Spikes small parts, DPMS A2 stock. Scope is an SWFA 3.5x15 SS with SWFA mount, Harris bipod. So far, have only fired 25 rounds through her as I just got it assembled. Has a 100 yard zero. Going to 500 yards tomorrow.
  9. Thanks all! Here's some pics of my three 308 AR's. First is my GII DPMS Varmint, I usually sling up in prone and sitting with it. Second is the DPMS LAR308, next my Spikes Tactical.
  10. Thanks, been shooting AR15/M16 type rifles since 1980, the 308 AR's only since about 2005. Competed in NRA High Power with M1A/M14 type rifles. Still shoot all three often, but not in competition anymore.
  11. Hello, I'm new to this site, but not exactly new to .308 AR's in general. I've owned a few Armalite AR10's, both A and B models, still own a DPMS LAR308 Varmint, a DPMS GII Varmint and now a Varmint rifle I assembled on a Spikes Tactical Livewire upper/lower. I owned for a short while a Palmetto PA10, nice little rifle, but my brother wanted it for hunting, should do the job well for him! Even with that said, I certainly don't know everything about them, I still have a lot to learn about all of the different makes and characteristics of AR 308 rifles in general, thanks for allowing me to sign up here!
