I’ve been asked by a number of friends and family my thoughts on Illinois’s approval of marijuana for recreational use. Here are those thoughts. While I support the legalization of recreational marijuana use under the right circumstances, what I have read of the 231 pages of the Illinois bill suggests it is inadequate. My primary objections revolve around the mistake that marijuana can be treated “just like alcohol”, that is seems done to curry public opinion, particularly of the inner city, and that the state appears to have a strong financial motivation. Nor have me readings shown adequate measures on managing abuse and preventing same. And on expunging prior arrest records? I’m curious, does this mean all those speeding tickets I got on the interstate before the speed limit was raised to 70mph are now void? Because that’s clearly the message… I don’t want to be too anal, but we’re not allowed to pick and chose what laws we’re going to obey. That’s not how society works folks. (Did these people just skip sociology or something?) Mind you I’m not a fan of most Illinois politicians and their lack of comprehension between the words “Leadership” and “Popularity”, so I’m not all that surprised. Disclosure Of Critical Opinions: 1) I see 420 as both a gateway drug and a demotivator. 2) I’m certain social media is now allowing emotional bullying around the clock, young adults are particularly at risk, and the effects can harm long term mental health. This emotional stress will lead to mental and emotional escapism, yet we’ve legitimized a demotivating gateway drug that will be used as the escape. Will it always lead to demotivation and further abuse? Of course not. But maturity seems the key determinate, and again young adults are at risk. Now not just from the drug, but from the implicit message. 3) We blame everybody and everything we can for the problems our nation faces: Gun violence, drug abuse, child abuse, and prejudice, just to name a few. Yet the root problem is our nations ethics, beliefs, and value systems are deeply compromised. To be blunt it’s not the gun, it’s the shooter. Not the drug or the child, but the abuser. Nor is it the race or the religion, but the ego and absence of morals and integrity of the bully. This can’t be fixed by laws, it requires a commitment to re-attaining the behaviors and value systems held by our forefathers but abandoned today. And once again, escapism just makes it worse. (We need responsible news media instead of “media for profit” too, but that’s another day). Governance Goals Of A Bill I Would Have Supported: 1) Someone of adequate maturity who wants to get stoned occasionally should be able to. 2) However, we must first recognize the problems and issues in our society and address how this drug can affect those problems. 3) Meanwhile the rights and safety of others, especially the unborn, and that of employers should not be compromised. 4) Abusers should stand at risk. 5) Taxes and fees raised should contribute to improving the mental health and futures of our children first. The state can benefit, but neither popularity nor profit should be the states primary motive. 6) If we’re to “give” on freedoms we should “get” on increases in personal responsibility.

Folks, I occasionally post on a VMAX forum, RZR forums, even a Glock forum. Here however seems to be the correct forum for a liitte response I've mentioned to a few friends and family I'd make publicly available. My best wishes to you if you don't agree, for its probably more important that we be able to disagree. All the best, D

Wait a darn moment!! Did I just read this: Mrraley was the Chief Armorer at Armalite at the time of his post, and he's talking about Armalite parts, specifically, in this thread. He's not talking about any DMPS-based parts in the least. Yikes! OK then. I get it! You may color me deeply impressed. And out of the QC to boot. Huh. You know, I sorta thought they built cannon's there, but that is home to the Rock Island Arsenal. Then you have Rock River arms in the area, as is LMT Defense. And as I recall Les Bauer was out of Lee Claire. Yes, I need to get back to the QC more often....

That is a FANTASIC offer. Mrraley, it's going to be a bit while I build funds, but I'll most certainly take you up on that offer!! Thanks to all for the tips and suggestions! D

Too true. I remember how respected they were in the 90's as a leader in real time national news. Now they are one step removed from Yahoo. Did you know CNN stands for Cable News Network? I'd no idea! I just assumed it stood for: Constantly Not Newsworthy

https://www.cnn.com/2019/06/15/us/new-jersey-gun-arrest-westfield-elementary-school/index.html Thank god he only had loaded clips! Can you imaging what might have happened if he'd had loaded magazines? Sigh...... And these people are allowed to vote.

Depends on what you mean. Paperwork? Like the required 4473 form and background check required to be guns? No. Do you need the states FOID (firearms Owners Identification Card) to buy ammunition? In practice, yes. The law only says you are required to possess a FOID to purchase or own ammunition as a state resident. I don't believe this actually applies to the dealer at point of sale, and certainly an Indiana or etc resident can buy ammo without a FOID card. That said I buy ammo in 1000 round increments over the internet and I've never been able to do so without sending them a copy of my DL and FOID. I don't recall being asked to display my FOID at my local gun ranges, but then once they know who you are.... Reloading supplies? FOID display not require to purchase. You would however violate Illinois law if you assembled said parts into ammunition without a valid FOID. Was I sorta clear? 🙂

Hello kind sir. I'm sorta below chicago and above St. Louis. More than that doesn't get on the internet. 🙂 Did I mention I'm not only in computers, but one of my area's of focus is cyber-crime? Now seems like time to be explaining myself a bit lest I sound like a azz.. Thanks!

I'm sure we agree on the important things, and even if we didn't it's just another celebration of freedom. Ammunition: I could not buy again and have enough. I started fixing that years ago. That said now that i'm staring to shoot pistol so much reloading is next up on my "I need to learn to...." list. All the best, D

Howdy, and thanks. Yep, I get up into the UP a 2-3 times a year, and there are plenty of 500 yard opportunites there.. 🙂

10-4. Seemed like something can be milled on a bolt gun to bring the headspace down. But I've gone looking in the interim and I can't find anything credible to support any accuracy benefit in any condition. It all seems to come down to safety. Thanks! D

Yep. But thank you anyway! Hey, if you buy two the cost per trigger is down to $83.50. ( did I just sound like my wife at a shoe sale? uh-oh...) I keep bumping into the Armalite buffer is just plane dialed in. I might yet, but we shall see. I may try one of the Armaspec SRS, and one of the JP's and see what I think. Thanks again!! d

Well you for sure made my life easier. thanks! d

Hello all! Occasional rifle shooter here. Lost access to my local range (long waiting list), so I only shoot 4 times a year or so until that gets fixed. shame. I shoot pistol 3-4 times a month at a indoor range here in down. I've a Rock River AR-15 I bought mostly assembled, then took it apart to learn how it all worked (OK, I cheated. I took an armorers class). I shoot a Remington 700 5r when I'm trying to be accurate, but so far I'm not adequate with it. I certainly understand trigger control, but I'm just not holding the gun on target, or even close on follow through. I try to read before I post, usually quite a bit, and in candor I've joined a forum or two and been accused of being a banned member because I knew too much. Nope, I just try to google and read before I start asking questions. I suppose I'm an oddity concerning gun rights. I think we need changes, and in fact I support the current Colorado legislation. And, yes, I know any form of control is a slippery slope. But fella's (and gals), we either come up with reasonable controls or we face the fate of other nations who have lost gun rights. So why am I here? Futures. I trust Illinois not at all, so I'm building three .308's. Mine, my son's, and my grandson's. Who is 2 1/2 right now. But I'm not sure about the world, and I want him to have the option, so here we are. Not reloading yet, but I save brass, have several thousand of most things. (ok, I don't have much .357 sig), and will soon. In fact I just starting shooting USPSA, so I'm going to need to start reloading soon. Oh yes. Computer guy. I think like an engineer sometimes.
