  1. I have no idea about this vendor, I tried a search and had all of 3 entries here. None of the 3 were conclusive. SO, how does this BCG look?: https://www.durkintactical.com/product/ar-308-ar-10-mil-spec-7-62-complete-bolt-carrier-group-nickel-boron/
  2. Where do I find any 308/large frame specific parts for the lower receiver? I already have a couple of pistol grips sitting around. Other than that what will or wont fit from AR15 to a DPMS pattern lower? I've looked at a couple places but didn't find any specific kits for the larger frame. Scott
  3. OK, it's ordered. May be a bit before I get it all assembled, but I will let you know. Scott
  4. So has anybody tried this set? Or should I piece a recoil system together?
  5. https://www.griffinarmament.com/griffin-ar10-stock-mounting-kit/ From what I read here it looks like the buffer weight is too light, but I also saw a thread showing the Griffin had it right so I wanted to check. This will be for a carbine build, 12.5 BA barrel with carbine gas, .308 caliber, and it will be suppressed 90% of the time at least. If not what correct options are out there? It looks like no parts from Armalite are available.
  6. Thank you! I was confused and thought all 308 tubes were different. I'm pretty sure I have an extra carbine tube laying around, if not they're easy to find.
  7. well, not gonna lie im worried now. We'll see what happens i guess. I don't know enough about the large frame AR's, but I hate to post a question about every part.
  8. you mean Delta Team or Davison Defense? I really hope it works too, I was unaware of a bad rep for either.
  9. Thank you! that shows me perfectly what I needed to know. Looks like a 10" is in my future
  10. So, with a DPMS BA 12.5 barrel, and a DPMS Low profile upper receiver, what is the suggested length for a handguard? I will use a suppressor and will have an adjustable gas block. I'm 99% confident that 10" is where I will need to be, but I wanted to ask if a 12" handguard would have room to attach a suppressor and get to the front of the AGB? Also, I need to find a gas tube. The barrel is carbine length gas, I have read to buy an Armalite tube but I can't see any products on their website. Where can I find the correct carbine gas tube?
  11. OK, got an upper: https://www.deltateamtactical.com/davidson-defense-goblin-lr-308-dpms-blemished.html blemished DPMS low profile $58.
  12. In addition, as I have searched I have noticed that some uppers have the forward assist in the rear, and some have it in the deflector. Any reason to worry about which one I get?
  13. Yes sir thank you. I found that barrel on sale for $110, looks like all Ballistic Advantage barrels are on sale: https://bkingsfirearms.com/product-category/lr308-dpms-barrels/
  14. That does look sexy, but....no. I have a DPMS pattern 80% lower, mainly because I'm a glutton for punishment. That and it's fun to put my own markings on it and call it whatever I want.
  15. Thanks. What about the upper receiver itself?
  16. Of the available DPMS style uppers, is there one or 2 that are lighter weight than the others? I'm going to build a short barrel 308 for hunting and will try to save weight where I can. Recommendations or options? Scott
  17. Does this barrel look ok? https://diamondbackfirearms.com/shop/db-barrel-308-winchester-mid-length-13-5-medium-4150-black-nitride/
  18. I like the way you think. My gut said that a .308 round fired from a 12" or longer barrel would be acceptable for hunting out to 250 yard at least. I'm in. Looks like I'm going to build it, and I will test it and let folks know. Looks like I'll get rid of that 6.8 and start acquiring parts.
  19. I think the info on what the lower limit for expansion is available somewhere. I say that because I have seen guys who handload reference velocities that a certain projectile they are discussing need. Having said that, I don't know where they find the information. I was hoping someone who had a SBR or pistol had used it hunting with factory ammo could tell me just from experience.
  20. let me rephrase, will those lengths have enough velocity with hunting ammo for them to expand as intended?
  21. thank you. Any idea about feeding factory soft point hunting ammo through those barrel lengths?
  22. Long story, but I'm back on track to build a 308 AR. I have several in .223/5.56, 300BO and I've even bought one in 6.8SPC although I cant find ammo for that one. Which brings me back to the reality that I have been wanting an AR with more punch than the .223 or even 300BO can send, AND I'm sitting on a few thousand rounds of surplus .308 from back in the day. My specific question is to help me decide on what barrel length I want. Originally I was thinking 16", but lately I've been considering something like a 12.5". This will be for a hunting (hogs, deer, coyotes) build. Shots will be from 75-300 yards 98% of the time. I'm leaving the other 2% open although I can't really think of a time I will shoot longer than 300. I do plan on using a suppressor 98% of the time. I don't currently reload, and don't have any plans to start reloading for 308. I have enough surplus fmj for fun and don't mind buying a few boxes of hunting ammo over the counter. I want a 'light' rifle. That's subjective I know, but I would say definitely no bull barrels and weighted butt stocks. I'll try to build as light as practical. So, within those parameters, (light, 308, hunting, 75-300 yards for deer size game and down) what barrel lengths would folks recommend? I think it goes without saying that reliability is a must.
  23. Perfect! Exactly the info I was looking for. Thanks!
  24. Thank you, I'm in Texas, near Dallas for the record. Which one of the rail heights is closer to, or the same as the height of a standard flat top AR15? I already have that to compare with both open sights and scope mounts. Just to make sure, no real functional difference, more a preference issue?
  25. So, I"m slowly gathering the pieces and parts for a rifle. For the record my plan is for a hunting gun, budget build. I"m not looking to drop lots of money for no reason, but at the same time quality parts are worth it. This is a DPMS pattern lower, actually an 80% I'm starting with. My question is about the rail heights on the uppers. I understand the differences, what I don't understand is the reasons and advantages of the different heights. Please give me some advice on which height I should be considering. What does the height affect? Scope mounting?
