  1. Agreed. The LMT is out of my price range as well; hence why I'm trying to build my own with precision parts to get similar results at 500yds in. I don't see 10-12lbs being "that" bad. My 18" AR15 comes in right around that weight.
  2. Very good info here. I do own a shotgun, albeit it's just a mossberg 500, but it should get the job done indoors. The .308 I'm looking to build will probably end up being more of "fun at the range toy", after seeing these replies. I feel the need to own some kind of rifle that can stretch it's legs and still thump, all while being somewhat compact(ish). What better choice than a SB .308? Lol. My worries are quality parts that will run reliably. That expansion test is pretty wicked for a .45! I've never loaded my own, but I work with guys that live to load the hottest stuff they can. It sounds fun.
  3. I'm guessing this ammo is a fav of yours?
  4. Y'all are too good at this game. Lol. That video alone made me want a short(ish) barrel .308. Is that LMT, or the nut?
  5. I never knew that would be an issue. Good advice! Are you meaning aggressively cycling subs through a short barrel?
  6. Very good stuff! I have some reading to do! Wowza 👏
  7. Off topic, but I'm still stuck in between form 1 and form 4. That decision will dictate how far I go with this build. While I'd love to have it suppressed from the get go, I just don't see that happening unless I go the form 1 route.
  8. That's exactly what I wanted to hear. How does one know exactly which short barrel to get, and know it will cycle suppressed?
  9. Man, that sounds fun. Would love to have a sub .308 build. What barrel length are you at?
  10. What is there to be said about ALL ar10's need an AGB?
  11. This would be one of the biggest advantages to the .308, right?
  12. Very good info. I've definitely read a lot about headspacing. It WILL be done perfectly, even if I have to take it somewhere. Loose nut behind the trigger?
  13. The main thing I want it to do is be reliable and accurate. What are some go-to barrels and bcg's that mesh well? Also, is it true to stick with the same manufacturer for those 2?
  14. That's great to hear. I bet they are pricey!
  15. That's a hell of a collection 😳 Something about the feel of the .308 in an AR platform that puts a smile on my face. Maybe that's all it's about, but I want one REALLY bad.
  16. Hahaha. I'm always up for plinking. Well, the more I see ammo cost rise, the longer I'm willing to sit on it. Don't forget, I was 33 years late to firearms. I have tons of catching up to do.
  17. Also, .308 subs aren't common, but they can be found.
  18. Not gonna lie, this video alone made me want a 13.5" .308. I know this guy is one hell of a shot, but damn that's impressive with the .308. I should've just bought an LMT, but I swore i would build my own rifle next. Shooting starts at 12:00 https://youtu.be/WX1kNtalmFw
  19. So what you're really saying is go 18"+ on the .308 and start another build? 🙃 I'm liking this so far. But, I have heard your argument against the SBR .308, though it was in a Facebook group.
  20. My wallet is starting to realize that 🤣 I've went from wasting money on cars, to stacking boomsticks.
  21. Nope, you're not wrong at all. I feel that my 300 will take care of "house duties" if needed.
  22. Free State. Lmfao. I'm glad you think so! I feel like the more I read about gun laws in NC the more I'm ready to jump ship. I will admit, it's better than most places. But, I still feel smothered.
  23. Primary purpose would be CQB, secondary purpose would be to reach out with a quality LPVO and make it sting a bit more than an AR15 build. While I do love the 300 BO platform, I really want something with more THUMP at range, and the 300 doesn't do it for me. "What can IT do for me"? It can cycle smoothly with and without a can. Lol. Once the can gets here, it'll most likely live on it, though. It will definitely be a range toy until SHTF. I feel safe with the 300 as home protection, but bugout situation, not so much. I want something with more power that can stretch it's legs rather well.
  24. First off, I'm about 36 years too late to the firearms party, but better late than never, right! I've worked in the Tool and Die industry for 17 years and sadly never got into guns until 2016..... Imagine that! Haha. I've since accumulated a nice stash of Mid to High(er) tier weaponry (DDx2), FN, Colt, M&P and some oddball EDC stuff. I'm ready to start some of my own builds, especially seeing as I have endless tooling at my disposal; from Wire EDM to Surface Grinders. Can't wait to dive into this costly black hole! Also, thanks to everyone for the info you all have compiled. Very impressive!
  25. Good call! Heading there now.
