  1. Hi guys, I weighed it and tuned it. Comes in at 12.6 pounds. Good thing I’ll be in a tree stand and not hiking for miles. We’ll see if the deer get the memo this year. Runs flawlessly, with and without the can. It was throwing brass farther than I can, so I dialed it down to where it barely spit them out, but still cycled. Then I opened it up a bit. Boy, does it bark! Now to study the ballistics of my ammo. I use a ballistic calculator online. I’m not yet sure at what distance I’ll zero it for. Had my FFL level my scope today. Honestly, I hunt heavily wooded areas, so a 75 yard shot is probably going to be my max distance unless I find a new spot on the edge of a field somewhere. I’ll work on the ballistics and get back to you guys. Thanks to all of you that helped make this rifle a reality. The recoil is minimal. I could comfortably shoot this rifle for hours without pain in my still-recovering shoulder.
  2. Thanks guys. I’ll definitely try it without the can first. I love naked women drenched in crude oil. (Yikes, must be a Texas thing)
  3. Hi guys, my FFL did help me get it together, so to speak. He checked the headspace and said the bolt barely closed on the no-go piece. He was surprised because the bolt and barrel are Aero Precision and he likes their quality. He doesn’t think it’s unsafe, just a bit odd. I trust him. He’s a licensed firearms manufacturer and has been in business for decades. I also trust you guys. I haven’t fired it yet, but plan to soon unless you all scream not to. I’d love some input here. It’s beautiful, but boy is it heavy.
  4. Hey guys, I milled out the lower some time ago and just drilled out the gas port in the barrel today. Now I’m ready to begin assembly. My FFL can advise me since all the machining is done, but I’m wondering if you know of any online “guide to assembly” for these platforms. Deer season will be here before I know it.
  5. Apparently, I ordered the .338 LaPua muzzle break and not the .308 unit from Sig for my can. It arrived Tuesday, I shipped it back on Thursday when the right one arrived. All this through FedEx. Dunno.
  6. One of the commenters suggested that it is part of a grand plan to force weapons, parts, and ammo To be shipped only by USPS. That way all firearm related commerce can be tracked and they will know who is buying from whom. Could be. Who knows?
  7. 3 days ago. Guns and Gadgets. Here is the link. https://youtu.be/vdqfBAJvJXg
  8. Another update. Mid week, I bought the Magpul PRS stock and an ASC five round magazine for hunting, from a local FFL. I love how plush the butt pad is on the stock. Yes, it is “boat anchor heavy”, but I think I’m going to love it. I also just ordered the muzzle break from Sig for my can. According to their website, it is shipping FedEx. I heard that FedEx joined UPS in their BS no shipping firearms, parts, etc. policy so I’m hoping there won’t be any issues. A set of iron sights and I’ll have all of the basic rifle components. That box is getting pretty heavy... I reckon she’s gonna be a beast.
  9. Thank you all for the mag input. Gun mag warehouse does have what I’m looking for. Almost there. My Breach charging handle and buffer tube arrived Wednesday and my M5 Atlas R-One handguard arrived Friday. The only thing left to buy to complete the basic rifle, is the stock and a couple of flip up sights. As this will be used for deer, I’ll probably take the scope from my .308 bolt rifle. Now, I just have to find the time to start the build process. It’s gonna be fun!
  10. Hey guys, A quick update. I received my heavy buffer and spring from Clint at Heavy Buffers. Yup, it’s heavy. I also ordered the following from Aero Precision. Should have them next week. AR15/AR10 Rifle Buffer Tube 1 AR10 BREACH® Ambi Charging Handle w/ Small Lever - Black/OD Green With a little luck, I might be able to order the 15” Atlas R One with M-Lok from Aero Precision next week too. I’m thinking about going with OD Green for the shroud and stock to mix it up a little The charging handle will match. I’ll replace the M2 black pistol grip with something better in OD Green down the road. Any recommendations? Man, I’m getting close I’m like a kid the night before Christmas every time something new arrives I still need to get the muzzle break adapter from Sig, for my can, shroud, and stock. Then I can pick up a router and get busy on the lower and start thinking about optics, sling, flip up iron sights, etc. I have quite a few rifles that I could “borrow” some optics from to get me ready for deer season. Does anyone know of who sells a 5 round .308 magazine? In VT, you are not allowed to use, or even have with you, any mag with a capacity of more than 5 rounds while hunting. You can’t modify a larger capacity mag to hold only 5 either, but that’s exactly what I’ll do if I can’t find one.
  11. I’ve submitted this reply twice and it just disappears each time. Thanks! That would be swell!
  12. Wow! I didn’t know the LAW folding doohickey existed. That’s pretty cool. It would be convenient for portability and storage, but I would be concerned about foreign objects getting inside and causing malfunctions. After all, which end do you set it down on? The B5 stocks are BEAUTIFUL. As for the length, I think it has as much to do with the user’s build as it does with the rifle’s build. I am tall, slender and have long arms and a long neck. I also have a titanium plate, fusing two vertebrae, in my neck from a work accident in 2006. That reduces my neck movement a bit. I think the short stock is probably out. I’ll have to think about the medium vs. long. For normal use, I’d never shoot (or charge it) with the stock collapsed. That said, in a SHTF situation, I’d hate to be hung up by having forgotten to extend the stock. Not a likely scenario, but... They will all allow the charging handle to be fully retracted when the stock is fully extended, right?
  13. I reached out to B5 about that sweet looking stock. I told him I’m building an AR308, DPMS rifle with a 16” barrel and asked if the Precision Stock in “long” would fit on my build. Both the medium and long are listed on their site as for carbine length. I was thrilled to get a reply so quickly but his response confused me further. Thanks for reaching out. So long as your rifle has a milspec receiver it will fit any of our stocks. Our CPS is a great fit for a precision rifle. I'd recommend the Medium or Long depending on what position you put your stock in. Neither will clear the longer charging handle if fully collapsed. If using a side folding adapter get the long. Do you have any thoughts on whether these stocks will work? What is a side folding adapter?
  14. It’s been a while. I’ve made a little progress. I received my mag well vise block from Brownell’s via USPS last week and just placed the order for the 10oz. heavy buffer and spring from heavy buffers. I gave a shout out to your forum in his comments section. I haven’t done any machining or assembly yet. Too busy working and trying to keep my head above water. All of those stocks look sweet. I’ll check them out, seems I have plenty of time. That said, I’m still a little nervous with what the Washington crowd is trying to do and what affect, if any their efforts might have on the industry.
  15. Hey guys, I want to stay in touch about my build. I just had a financial setback and had to spend $750 on an unexpected truck repair, so purchasing the router, mag well vise block, buffer assembly, barrel shroud, and stock will have to wait a while. Speaking of stocks, I’ve been considering the Magpul PRS. I’d love to hear from anyone who knows of other fixed rifle stocks with adjustable LOP and cheek pad. It would be nice to check out all of my options before buying one. The jig from 5D finally arrived. It appears to be well engineered.
  16. Hahaha. Never heard that one. “Run with scissors on that one” Love it. I guess Aero Precision is living up to its name.
  17. I “pinned” the gas block and tube with a micro screwdriver to dry fit the barrel, block, tube and upper. The tube protrudes into the upper just a speck passed the center of the cam pin cutout. Looks identical to the photo posted above. I put a strand of copper wire through the gas port in the barrel. After about 5 minutes of studying inside the barrel with a light at the other end, I was able to determine that the hole IS in a groove, not through a land. No idea if that was good engineering or just good luck.
  18. Sounds good. I have drilling and tapping fluid. I’ve drilled thousands of holes in every type and thickness of material you can imagine Not nervous. I suspect the hole is positioned so that it is located in one of the grooves inside the barrel, not on a land.
  19. Hi guys, The barrel and BCG arrived today. I measured the journal on the barrel where the gas block mounts. It is indeed 0.750” I also measured the gas port in the barrel as best I could with a pair of digital calipers. It is 0.0745” If I use a #43 drill at .0890” (2.26mm), will that be big enough? Obviously, I will be removing the finish on the ID of the hole. In your experience, has that ever caused corrosion and reduced the gas pressure over time? I will dry fit the barrel, upper, gas block and gas tube tomorrow to check for proper tube length.
  20. Thanks for that. Crystal clear. I’ll verify the gas block journal size and let you know if it’s not .750”. If it is correct, I’ll drill out the barrel’s port to .090”. I’ll also check the gas tube length this weekend if the barrel comes Saturday. I’ve been hounding 5D Tactical weekly to send the jig and tooling. Finally shipped, also due in on Saturday! If the gas block journal isn’t as advertised, I’ll have to add another band to that guys nuts!
  21. Stoner must have been an incredible engineer and a very, very, patient man. The system is quite simple in principle, but the devil is in the details! I have the upper, gas tube and and block in hand. Barrel and BCG arrive Saturday. The barrel shroud will have to wait a bit as money has been going out faster than it’s coming in. I’ll buy the buffer, spring and tube next. I should be able to dry fit everything together to check the position of the tube in the upper, shouldn’t I? I would like to drill out the barrel to its new specs as well. Gotta number? BTW, I’m still waiting for the lower jig from 5D Tactical, ordered nearly 5weeks ago when it was listed as “in stock”. Apparently, they had some manufacturing issues and a ton of orders. I’m not going to buy a small router until I have the jig. I have a big router but that won’t work for this. If they fail to deliver, I’ll be forced to buy a serialized lower from AP. That defeats the purpose of this particular rifle but I have to finish it either way. Aero Precision’s website guy should have a rubber band wrapped around his nuts. They do that to cows or bulls to castrate them. Eventually, they just fall off. That is a very generous offer but I can see this isn’t your first rodeo and l’m sure I won’t be sending you any parts. Thanks again.
  22. 98Z5V Can you help me work backwards from the heavy buffer’s 10oz. buffer and spring to determine what tube will accommodate them and work with my 80% Arms DPMS lower that is matched to my Aero Precision M5 upper(not enhanced)? Once I know what tube to get, I can find an appropriate fixed rifle stock. Thanks
  23. Here are two screenshots of the tube. Maybe they mean it’s for a 6” buffer? i don’t have to buy it from Aero Precision. If you can suggest something else , I’m game.
  24. All upper components are from Aero Precision. Gas port in barrel is 0.0730”As far as the tube and stock, receiver extension will be Aero Precision 6” rifle, and Magpul PRS or PRS Lite.
