In the process of replacing the short picatiny mounting rails on a few of my precision rifles with bag sliders. Don't really use the mono-pods much anymore and it only made sense to get rid of the attachment point and protect my rear bags. Whatta Hobby!

Never noticed any dinged case mouths. I usually anneal after the brass is out of the dryer and before running it over a Giraud trimmer which dresses the mouth anyway. Last step before priming and loading is to run the brass over a tapered carbide mandrel to set the neck tension. Whatta Hobby!

Have been using a Thumler tumbler for years using SS pins, Dawn and lemishine. Separating pins after tumbling has become quite simple. Used to get 1 pin left in 500 brass and found a simple solution. The Frankford Arsenal media separator is my choice. For years I separated before rinsing using the water and pins directly from the tumbler and turned the separator handle for 20 revolutions, dumped the dirty water and added hot water up to the fill line and cranked another 20 turns. Result were darn good by not perfect with 1 pin left per 500 cases. Now, by adding and additional 10 turns making it 30 for initial separation and again for the rinse, I have gone 15k cases with no pins left. That's 10K of .308 and 5K of .223 over the last year with not a single pin left in the brass before putting the cases in a Frankford Arsenal case dryer. Whatta Hobby!

26 degrees out with 15-25 gusts from all over. Rifle used is a Savage 110 in .223 with a 26" Criterion barrel. Shot 10 rnds at 100 yds on this target and 20 on a sight in target which chronoed at 2920 with an SD of 8.9 . I now not enough rnd count to count for much, but that's all before I froze. Having way too much fun for a retarded guy. Loading 73 gn .224 Berger target bullets in new Starline brass with neck tension set to .002 over 24. gn of IMR-8208 set off with BR-4s. Whatta Hobby!

Prepping new Starline .223 brass today. When received some time ago it was sorted into .1 gn lots. Pulled out 150 of the 93.9 gn bag for 3 range boxes and set the neck tension at .002. Will be loading with 73 gn Berger's over 24 gn of IMR-8208 using BR-4 primers. This load had been running at 2850 in the past out of my Savage 110 bolt rifle with a 26" Criterion 1-7 varmint profile barrel. Whatta Hobby!

Not so good with the math eh? I am 76 going on 77 and have been loading since I was 15 so yes Sir, I have been loading for over 60 years and shooting even longer. Live here is good for me even if it might be a little embarasing for you. Crimping is certainly a choice even if you might not agree with other's that choose not to crimp. Remember when you point a finger at another for bullshitting, there are three fingers pointing back at your. No idea what you are so grumpy about but I will bet there is someone that might be willing to help you get over it. Will be celebrating our 60th wedding anniversary next year and I was loading ammo before that. Whatta Hobby!

Really ! Just so youse knows, the CN stands for closed nose per Sierra my friend and is nothing I added. You might try lightening up on your criticisms a bit until you have read more. That box came in early Winter from Powder Valley so it shouldn't be old at all. I find your " clarifying " to be way off base and a bit childish, just saying. You will also find that I only post information that I personally know to be correct so there should be no clarification needed. Discussions are always enlightening. This is just how a old Marine sees things. Been loading and shooting for way over 60 years. My first issued M-14 was in 1966, so I have been around the .308 for some time. Picture is worth a thousand words. Has become very popular. Sierra created the 169 for the purpose of having something in .308 that would work out to 1K. Whatta Hobby!

Ok, so with the same 169 gn bullet and load a little better 100 yd 10 rnd group. A bit under 1/2" works for me. While goofing in the shop today I thought it might be interesting to see, side by side from left to right 168 gn smk, 169 gn hpbt-cn and a 175 gn smk. I noticed the bt on the 169 and 175 were similar in length but the 169 was considerably sharper angle. Bullet shapes are noticeably different. Yep, way too much time on my hands. Whatta Hobby!

Had this scope for a few years and sort of forgot about it after I didn't care for it on an M-14. I am going to see how it works on my M-5 in .308. Whatta Hobby!

Temp got up to 20 with just a tiny bit of wind so I had to give it a try. 10 rnds of a long range load into sub 1/2" at 100 yds works. Load is Lapua brass with 43.9 gn of IMR-8208 set off with 210Ms pushing a 169 gn Sierra BT-CN at 2750 fps. Whatta Hobby!

After reading reviews on this scope, I just had to add one to the herd. Mounted this morning on a Savage 110 .308 24" Criterion SS barrel, ORYX chassis. Having so much fun in retirement I could scream. Med MK 4 rings worked for this rifle but I can see higher will be needed for my AR-10 types and M-14 XM21s. New rings have already been ordered. Too durn cold out to head to my range. If this works out the way I expect it will, should save me $ 1-2K per scope over the Night Forces that I have been using. Whatta Hobby!

Having way too much fun. Walked out through the snow and retrieved a target from yesterday. Up close it looks a lot more like 1 moa than the 1/2 I thought I had shot yesterday. Still pleased with the load. Whatta Hobby!

Little chilly this morning at 22 deg. but I got out to for a bit to try these bullets. Fired 30 rnds in Lapua brass with 210M primers loaded with 43.9 gn of IMR-8208 out of my 24" 1-10 X-Caliber barreled Savage .308 with an OSS HX-QD .358 magnum TI suppressor. Average speed 2791 with an SD of 6.1. Stout recoil with a nice sharp report. Sub .5 moa so I think these bullets will work nicely for practice when I don't feel like spending the big bucks for the usual Bergers. Whatta Hobby!

After 60 years of loading and 100s of thousands of rnds I am not particularly worried. Plenty through AR types without a problem. I will agree, for the generic loader that just crams and jambs crimping might help. For most serious loaders just turning down the expander ball will negate the crimping by presenting a decent neck tension. Never used a bump stock so I can't comment on that but I can imagine dumping ammo might be fun for some. By the way, the OP was asking a very simple question about 7.62x51 and I believe he got the answer needed. Whatta Hobby!

Nope, I completely remove the de-capping unit from the die and hand de-prime. Normally would use a bushing die to the least working of the brass. Then I use a tapered carbide expander to set my neck tension at .003. With the expanding taking place from the top , strongest point, there is less chance of changing the brass headspace than by pulling a darn expander up through the case neck and moving what you have just taken the time to make right with your sizing die. Those are simply faux kits made by my friend Hawk from USGI parts. The connect to the stock and just appear like the real deal. Best way , in my opinion, to fill the cut out in a USGI M-14 stock. Whatta Hobby!

The OP was concerned that the 2.00 might be too short. My intent was to assure him that indeed 2.00 is just fine to use. I might add that crimping is not necessary for .308. I run between 5 and 10K of reloads annually through my M-14s and FALs for the last 30 years and never use a crimp with bottle neck cartridges. Whatta Hobby!

I use an RCBS X die for my generic loaded .308 brass and trim to 1.99. 2.00 would be fine for any loading. Whatta Hobby!

Waiting on a freight delivery of another 45 amp glass kiln for the studio today. Sooooo, taking advantage of the time to prime a bunch of brass. A few hundred consisting of weighed and neck tension set to .003. About half .308 Lapua priming with 210Ms and the other half MEN berdan .308 using Tula KV-7..62Ns. Whatta Hobby!
