JayAlon30810mm
For the past year I have been buying all the peripheral parts for my next build. I have everything but a BCG and Barrel.I want this to be more of a fun range gun to plink with within 300 yards.I am having second thoughts about using the .308 with such a short barrel(12.5" + Muzzle Break, probably 14" overall) I was thinking about the expansion ratios of different calibers and came to the conclusion that a .35 cal bullet with low powder volume might be the most efficient in this type of gun.My first thought was the .358 Winchester, but that still has a lot of powder behind it. What do you guys think of the .35 Remington for a SBR? Do both use the same bolt face? I already have a 20" .260 bolt(Same as .243/7mm-08/.308/.338 Fed/.358 right?) and barrel for any long range shooting. The .35 Rem has less powder capacity than the .358 Win, so the FLASH of wasted powder would most likely be less. On the other hand I could just download the .358 Win until I achieved the desired burn rate. And maybe use a faster burning powder and lighter bullet.I would like to stay with a cartridge that will allow 20 rounds in the magazine, just like the .308. I prefer Pmags(I have 10 already) so if at all possible I would like to stay with them. I also plan on using a Thick A$$ Bull barrel with dimple fluting to counterbalance my Magpul UBR stock. Does anyone know if the .358 Win Bolt will fit the .35 Rem?
shooter545
I run a 14.5 POF with a Surefire MB762K muzzle brake and it shoots real nice, it's loud as all get out but you can run it like a .223 carbine. I have shot a SCAR-H in the 12 inch format without a muzzle barke and it is a BEAR! I also shot the new LMT 12 ich full auto gun at the SHOT Military and LE range day this year. I hit the targets but you have to really MAN UP on it. Having said all that I have been shooting a lot of SBR .308s as of late and I'm hooked on them. I have had to spend some extra time in the gym but you have a whole lot of power in a fairly small package.Just some thoughts.
uncommon commoner
I run this and boy is it fun. For social work it will keep all shots on a silhouette target's chest at 100 yds all day long. 1 ragged hole at 50yds. Barrel is 9.5 inches. Because I have several makes and lengths of AR-10 type rifles, I am very close to taking the plunge on building one with a 10.5 inch barrel. That way ALL my mags will be compatible. Not to mention muscle memory and malfunction drills will be exactly the same. So in my VERY humble opinion, stay with a 308 and make it logistically easier for yourself.
