imschur Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 I thought it would be interesting to build an AR-15 with the same or similarly styled hardware to give a good reference for the difference in size and weightBoth rifles have 24" bull barrels (AR-15 is Fluted), Magpul PRS buttstocks, Aluminum free float hand guards and Ergo pistol grips. Both rifles were weighed without bipods and optics and had an empty magazine installed. The difference was 5.5#. The AR-15 weighed in at 10.5# and the DPMS LR-308 tipped the scales at 16#
imschur Posted January 16, 2010 Author Report Posted January 16, 2010 BTW if you look closely you can see the difference in the Magpul PRS adjustable cheek rest in the two different versions.
SWshooter Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 In my opinion the LR-308 is too heavy to be used for anything but a pure bench rifle. I sent mine to ADCO and had it cut down to .750 all the way to the muzzle, left it 24" long. It is much handier now.
