I thought it would be interesting to build an AR-15  with the same or similarly styled hardware to give a good reference for the difference in size and weight

Both rifles have 24" bull barrels (AR-15 is Fluted), Magpul PRS buttstocks, Aluminum free float hand guards and Ergo pistol grips. Both rifles were weighed without bipods and optics and had an empty magazine installed.

The difference was 5.5#. The AR-15 weighed in at 10.5# and the DPMS LR-308 tipped the scales at 16#

In my opinion the LR-308 is too heavy to be used for anything but a pure bench rifle. I sent mine to ADCO and had it cut down to .750 all the way to the muzzle, left it 24" long. It is much handier now.
