  1. Yes, I am with you on that. Course I keep my stuff pretty clean and maintain it regularly, so if I start seeing much of that, I will close down production on that and move toward the OTM or ballistic tips for hunting and the FMJ's for plinking.
  2. I recently built a 300 blk with a core15 9.5" barrel (awesome barrel BTW) and have been experimenting on some loads for it. I am making my own cases by cutting down 223/5.56 brass and I have a crap load of 170 grain 30 cal round lead nose made for a 30-30. I read where it wouldn't work on an AR because the round nose would get caught on the feed ramps etc, but I like to test instead of just regurgitating internet folk lore, so I grabbed a couple of pounds of H110 and got to work. I started quite light (yes, I know the dangers of reduced load H110, but then again, if you don't use your brain, then reloading is probably not for you anyway, so YMMV, use at your own risk, etc etc) I started off with 8 grains of H110 with an OAL of 2.10. It fired the bullet all the way through the barrel (no squibs) and ejected the case, but would not lock the bolt back (when experimenting, I ALWAYS) fire one cartridge at a time. So I increased .5 grains at a time until I hit 11.5 grains. At this point, I started getting a locked back bolt. I continued increasing it until I reached 15 grains and will probably stop here. I have not chrony'ed it yet, but it fires every round, ejects, strips the next one and locks back on the last round and I have no pressure signs or flattened primers. I am pretty certain that I am still subsonic, but won't know until I can properly chrony it. I think that this might be a useful hunting round since the lead nose wouldn't depend as much on velocity for expansion as most of the 308 rounds currently do, so the shorter barrel and reduced speeds of the 300blk should not be an issue. Anyway, this is my story and just figured that I would share.
  3. I am a bit late to this thread, but I have a DPMS Recon 16" an I really enjoy shooting it. It functions as it should, shoots well and is much easier to carry around than it's 24" bull barreled brother which has stayed in the safe since I got the 16"
  4. Agreed on the blowback from the 16" barrel. I have both a 24" and a 16" 308 and its like night and day (of course its also night and day when you are carrying them too!) After reading extensively about ballistics, bullet weight, powder charges, etc, I am seriously considering dropping the 24" altogether since there is negligible performance gains at the distances that I shoot (I keep it under 600 - 650 yards). Congrats on your new 308, it should provide years of faithful service.
  5. What's the story on your trigger? Does you Likey?
  6. Got a new DPMS Recon version a few days ago. Love carrying around the 16" version SOO much better than my 24" inch bull barrel version. Since it's not going to see many ranges outside of 550 - 600 yards, I went with an ACOG TA 11E. I Like the concept of the flash hider/suppressor adapter, course that is just more time to wait until its complete (sigh). The quad rail is actually quite nice and solid. I might keep it on for a while, but since I am not going to be hanging junk all over it, (yes, I have tendencies to be an accessory whore ;)) I will probably go with one that is lighter and only has an upper and lower rail. I am seriously looking at the Mako Tpod G2 to get the front grip that I want and still have a bipod, but not have too much junk on it. The crappy (ok, they are not THAT bad) BU sights are already gone (right after I took the pics) because I don't see the need of backup sights that aren't as tough as my main optic. I will be getting some DD BU sights within the next few days.
  7. Alright already. Pictures are posted in the pictures section (oddly enough).
  8. This kinda sickness is fun! However, with that said, I really like this one as it sits. I think that it needs a bit of tweaking such as good optics (had to be an ACOG TA11E for me). I will put on an ambi-safety and an ambi-mag release, but after that, color me GTG.
  9. Got one of these sitting at home right now. I also have its 24 inch big brother, but it only see's ranges that have benches now. My Recon see's just about everywhere I go!
  10. Well I am certainly not going to show you perverts a picture of my undressed Recon... <laughs>
  11. Haven't seen much chatter here about the Recon...course its not much different than other LR's, but I love the concept of the AAC Blackout flash hider/suppressor adapter. I have 24" Stainless bull barrel 308 LR, but was in the local GS and saw the Recon being un-boxed and placed on the shelf. I asked the guy to hand it over to me. One feel and I knew that it was coming home with me. Don't get me wrong, I love the 24" version, but lopping 8 inches off the barrel sure makes it a ton more handy. Just ordered a Trijicon to top it off, so it should be here tomorrow and I will take some pics to post once its done. To me, taking a picture of a firearm without an optic is like taking a picture of a fine race car without the wheels and tires.
