  1. Thanks stdriver and staintrain, I agree that will solve the problem, but I'm still left wondering which part is out of spec. I guess if it functions reliably, it doesn't really matter but I'd still like to know. Easy- the current line of DPMS MK12 308s come with the SOPMOD from the factory http://www.dpmsinc.com/308-MK-12_ep_96-1.html I think I have seen them with the A2 tho. The tube/buffer/spring are all original.
  2. Hey guys, here are several pictures showing the length of various parts of the rifle. It is a completely stock MK12 308 dressed the same way it was the day i completed the transfer, if that helps anyone. Ive been wondering if this problem could have started recently because the receiver gouges don't look like 350 rounds worth damage, is it possible that this due to over-pressured ammunition? On the other hand, this.. ...makes me wonder if the receiver extension is 1 rotation shy of being in the correct position, it looks like i might be able to get the extension a little closer to the buffer retainer, but i don't know. Opinions? survivalshop- honestly i don't know if the RE is rifle length or not, it came with the B5 SOPMOD stock on a 6 position tube. Here is a pic showing the tubes length. I am not at all familiar with the correct dimensions of these items, if anyone notices anything out of spec please lemme know.
  3. Yea, its not deformed, it just has some extra wear at the bottom corners where the carrier increases diameter
  4. hey guys, Ive put about 350 rnds through my DPMS MK12 without a malfunction of any kind. The rifle shoots MOA and appears to operate flawlessly. But after shooting the other day i noticed this so maybe the receiver extension is too long? buffer too short? BCG too short? is this worth sending it back to DPMS to have them look at it? Also, what could this type of damage do to the life span of the lower receiver? I assume (provided the problem is corrected) the damage is purely cosmetic and wont effect the operation of the rifle. Is that correct? Let me know what you guys think
  5. Thanks edge, not exactly sure what you mean. should i just clamp the end with the gas block and unscrew it? damage from what? please forgive my ignorance, i have no experience with building these type of rifles, just shooting them :)
  6. One more thing, does anybody know how to take the swivel stud out of the rail? I assume i just screw it out, but i thought id ask.
  7. Hey guys, thought id post a pic from my trip to the range. I dont have a scope for it yet so i took my burris ar332 off the ar and used it for the day. This group was the last 4 rounds i had with me, otherwise i would have fired one more shot. 75yds using 168gr Federal GMM. Every round fed, fired, and ejected without problem (using DPMS magazines) I believe DPMS has another loyal customer.
  8. Nice Rifle! I picked up the same one about a month ago. Question, i notice yours has a different stock and grip so i was wondering, did your rail come with a swivel stud? or did you take it off
  9. ;D ;D Awesome, you handeled the recoil like a champ 8) i wasnt even sure if the bang i heard was you shooting until i noticed the brass bouncing off the wall! What about the bore snake? Is there some reason i wouldn't want to use one?
  10. Thats kinda what I thought, just wanted some confirmation. I have also read that high rates of fire are not recommended for the first 200 rnds or so. Is that just another wives tale? Also, DPMS says they don't recommend the use of a bore snake during break in? :o Why!? <dontknow>
  11. Awesome! I will definitely be giving this a try!
  12. ahahaha I didn't notice! :-[ I will check the pics a little better in the future! Just picked up some Federal GMM, i cant wait to shoot this thing! Its a beast, kinda makes my AR feel like a toy.
  13. Thanks for the replies guys! Didn't make it to the range this weekend, but i will soon enough. Also, did any of you break in the barrel as DPMS recommends? It seems a like a bit much. Did it appear to make a difference? I understand its hard to compare, but i wonder what kind of accuracy improvements are really possible with that sort of break in. I couldn't find much for reviews on this particular rifle, so i plan on doing a thorough review after iv sent a few down range. Until then, here are a few pics!
  14. First, I'd like to say hello. I think I've read almost every post in the DPMS section of this forum. And with out you guys, I may not have purchased my FIRST 308. So THANKS!! :D. Pics and a range report coming soon. As soon as i got it home, i broke it down, and thoroughly cleaned everything. When I started to reassemble the BCG, I saw something I had never seen before. My question (and maybe I'm over thinking this) is am I supposed to insert the firing pin as far as I can before inserting the retaining pin? The firing pin is different than the one on my stag 2t, it appears to have an additional "retaining swell" closer to the bolt. I assume it's like my AR and I'm supposed to just drop it in and pin it.? Any input will be appreciated! So far my rifle appears to all I had hoped it would be!! DPMS MK12 .308
