  1. I was issued the M-60 in the army, I was in from 72-75 I never so any combat and only shot it a few times. But compared to the m-16-A1 it wasn't a contest at all. I did end up buying an AR-15 first. But ordered a DPMS lr-308 the same day. I love the 308 no worries about penetration . Easy to hand load. Would like to get a LMT if the price ever comes down. But my DPMS is very accurate and has not failed me yet. My AR -15 will be for my wife to shoot or my son. Its a great camp rifle but to protect my butt I want a 308 platform.
  2. Yes it will not cycle if not lubed very well, Try high speed axle grease. This really helped mine. I had trouble the first say 100 rnds. Tried grease now have over 1500 rnds no issue at all. My buddy just bought new rifle we used grease right off the bat and no problems at all.
  3. I keep xd40 at arm length, 100# Rott in kennel next to bed, 7 shot shotgun at end of bed first load bird shot then alternating 00 and slugs then to safe with ar loaded with light & laser behind that lr308 loaded with scope and laser, I sleep just fine. Oh and machete at side rail of bed
  4. I believe high gas block with short rail is what I have going back with micro block, Have carbine length free float going back with rifle length free float, so should order another gas tube for new block? carbine length right. It will be the dpms quad rail, also will same barrel nut work
  5. If I buy the parts how long should it take a gun smith to change out gas block and handguards, I understand you have to remove barrel to do this change so is this a 4hr job 8hr job. Just want to know aproximate so have Idea if being given run around. Thanks Jon
  6. Got a call from Troy today no they do not make a hand guard to fit my rifle they only offer two hand guards 1 is low profile the other is 3/16 or so the guy said so I guess dpms is the only answer may have to get it and find a machine shop to work it over if possible. Thank's guys for all your help
  7. what do you all think about barrel removal should a guy try to find a smith for that, got busy today never heard back fro troy will call them tomorrow just to double check. Im pretty handy and have a good friend who is a mechanic so he could torque barrel things like that but probally requires more tools. Guess I will call a smith tomorrow does anybody have an idea what this should cost for labor and if I have all parts how long this would take. Thanks Jon
  8. OK heard back from DPMS yes I can put rifle length quad rail on it need micro gas block and they said I need to have it done by gun smith as you have to remove barrel, But yes the one in the picture is it. And no changes have been made to the 308T since its introduction, so if you have the high rider this is your choice. Havent heard from troy, but very happy this can be done THANKS Jon
  9. yea im looking for about a inch to inch and 1/2 shorter than existing a2 the original is justa little long especially when have heavy jacket on however like the more traditional stock over collaspsabile. I usually end up cutting stocks down but cant do that with these.
  10. blue109 do you know is the mag pul stock shown on the rifle you posted. Is it shorter than regular a2 stock and does it take a2 length buffer and spring or the shorter buffer and spring
  11. I love it thank you I would be real happy with that, sure hope this works out, Thanks again
  12. yea thats the one they told me would work will call monday and find out more Thanks for all the help. do you know if I get a3 reciever which has forward assist will I have to get new carrier because I have slick side no assist.
  13. Robocop do you have a part # for that rail just looking it doesnt look tall enough, but if you have a part # I could compare to # they gave me Thanks Jon
  14. Thanks Matt, going to wait till Monday and get hold of dpms again, my bolt is slick side so no serations for forward assist, so would I need new bolt also? I will keep you in mind and appreciate offer, what are those selling for. Maybe this is why they were telling me to just go another route seems like alot of money adding up quick. With changes not including reciever Im at 500.00 plus tax getting close to new upper cost. Now my head hurts, I was told these were the Harleys of guns sure turning out that way.
  15. yep thats it the only difference is looks like thats fluted 18" mine is 16" yea when I called them they said they had a quad to fit this model all I needed was micro gas block Their part # is 308-FF-4SH for 189.00 thats all I know
  16. Sorry didnt get pict was waiting for my son to do it he is better with this stuff but thats exactly what I have the 308T see how little room is between mag well and bipod thats what drives me nuts and with gloves on its worse. But yea thats what Im dealing with. I missed troy they closed before I could talk to anybody.
  17. Thanks edgecrusher I will start there, Thanks washguy I will ask for Jeff
  18. Matt what was your serial # , I have a call into Troy, their supposed to call back, what do you think about bolt carrier and bolt has anyone put JP bolt in their rifle
  19. Thanks Matt I will check that out, But I may be getting ahead of myself, the cosmetic changes woul be nice but maybe I better start with mechanical changes first to make the rifle reliable cause this is what started this conversation the fact I was feeling rifle not reliable looks count but they dont save you. So should I put in a JP enhanced bolt or do I need the whole BC and bolt I was thinking Bolt and firing pin that kit is more to my wallet's liking at 185 rather than 439 which is more liable to wear out. Then buffer and spring then hand guard when funds arise??
  20. just got off phone with dpms, yes I have original and according to them must use their quad rail not troy or YH. Thanks for bringing that up yea I think my serial # is pretty low so must deffinatley be older style.18226 is serial #
  21. well to be honest I dont know, I do know on my ar 15 Bush I had to add high rail for scope and on dpms 308 I did not and in looking at new dpms mine is different. Mine was bought in 06
  22. Is yankee hill ok for hand guard like light weight rifle length, would like hand guard to cover gas block but real concern is more room for my hand would also like to add angle grip to it but other than that dont actually need quad rail, This rifle will have scope all the time, a sure fire at 45 degree in future plans or somthing like that
  23. Thanks guys will get a pict might be awhile on parts jobs are real slow right now, but will keep you all posted and again thanks for everything
  24. OK so have decided to keep my DPMS, You all talked me into it and I THANK YOU. So I think I want {unless anybody has better optins} Troy 12" hand guard I have older model upper raised. So want hand guard same level, Adjustable butt stock mag pull ctr, heavy buffer and spring, pistol grip, low profile gas block. Ive on order how to build AR from Brownells. So what all do I need for tools what is compatible with 223 and 308. You guys started this now you have to put up with my questions. Thanks a bunch you all have been great this forum really helps. Just hope it doesnt get shut down
