  1. Wow, a lot of replies, site's been busy over the holidays.... I tend to agree about it being MY weapon, thus why I wrapped it anyway. The wrap is that self-clinging stuff so there's no adhesive to leave behind. I'm sure I won't leave it on their permanently, but along with a little protection from scratches, it also reduces some glare while hunting. Although .308 is definitely way overkill for varmint, I've taken it on a few nighttime predator excursions.....here is one victim taken at about 75-80 yds a few weeks ago...
  2. A buddy told me not to wrap my gun cause it looks cheesy, another friend told me to go for it......thoughts? I kinda like it because it protects the tube and the optics objective from scratches. 3. After I posted the other day I noticed that while leveling my optics I managed to slide the NF all the way forward in the rings before i tightened it down. So I re-leveled scope and took it out for a few more confirmation shots afterward. Used a friend's bore guide to clean since I won't have my Lucas for a few weeks. Seems like she shoots a tighter group after the cleaning. Sorry no target pics, but here are a couple with the thread cap in place with her smaller sibling. 4. Oops. I went back looking for the info that said the break-in procedure was unnecessary and all I could find was a recommendation for cleaning every round for 25 and every 10 for the first 100. At least I only put 40 thru it so far. Opinions?
  5. Thanks for the compliments. Took it to the range yesterday and put 2 boxes of 168 gr Gold Medal Match thru her at 100 yds to sight in. I opted not to do the traditional break-in procedure since I read somewhere on DPMS' website that you don't have to. So far I'm pretty happy with it. I originally decided to wait on a brake because I had noticed shooting my friend's 18" .223 that it was significantly quieter behind the gun without a brake than with, but I think I'll be happier with less muzzle rise. I also was thinking I want an adjustable gas block, but I'm not sure how that'll work unless I remove the tube to adjust it. Time to start reloading now.
  6. Finally here! My first 308AR, ordered it assembled, minus the optics. Thread protector cap should have arrived today. Gonna decide on a flash suppresor or brake after I shoot it. I wanted to wait til I had some better pics, but I'm at work so the phone pic will have to do for now. 7. Shot a friend's .223 with the Jp adjustable on it last weekend and decided I already want to upgrade my rifle that's on order, but have a few questions in summary. The rifle I ordered is a custom build LR-308-B, which makes it .308 chamber, 18", fluted, threaded. I would assume that's technically the same as the SASS. Is the fitment issue with the barrel, or the handguard? JP lists the size of their adjustable gb at .936" bore and DPMS lists the same on their build page. So is there a fitment/function issue or not anymore? EDIT: Ok, so I understand why it shouldn't fit the barrel, but apparently it does work?
  8. Mine on backorder from Midway just came in last week...still waiting on the rifle. :( Brownell's actually had them back in stock before Midway, but for a dollar more per mag.
  9. Let me know if I can be of assistance, I have guns AND trucks! <thumbsup>
  10. Bummer, I just ordered my rifle with one from them....how bad are they?
  11. Haha, we're actually forecast to get snow(sleet) this week in Houston! We'll see. Sorry, should have clarified: Friend told me his brother told him not to buy dpms and showed him pics of "some work they did with a dremel", friend told me as if his bro has seen it first hand. Finding that post on SH relieved some of my stress because it now looks like big brother read that thread and relayed that heresay as first hand info. I had put too much stock in what my friend's brother said when he just read it online. That along with realizing that there was an entire community of happy LR-308 owners with very few complaints here, helped me relax about my newly ordered rifle. Sorry again about the misinformation, just wanted to share what had me doubting a decision that was 6 months in the making.
  12. Thanks guys, hadn't had anything to post about until my friends got into my head. I think I found the pics that one of their brothers showed them of messy dremel work done by DPMS to a returned rifle on snipers hide. That's one particular instance and it was repair work and not poor manufacturing. I also found some bashing of DPMS on another forum and they included Rock River as another "cheaply made" rifle. I've got a 5.56 RRA that has been awesome, so I don't buy into it too much. Now I just have to wait a few months for my special order to enjoy it and post up in the pics section.
  13. Also curious about this as I just saw a GA Precision on Gunbroker with a POF lower, looked like DPMS style upper. On the note of the Hide, that explains a lot for me....just ordered an LR-308 about a week ago and then I ran across a thread or two over there about terrible DPMS quality (or lack thereof) that got me nervous. I don't seem to see as much DPMS bashing over here, or at least I haven't in the last few months while shopping for a .308 AR. Then again, I'm also not ready to spend $3k(before optics) on a rifle I might use once a month, or every other month maybe.
