I was told that the British military bought 6500 LMT's . When you buy a LMT you get a nice Ergo grip, butt stock , good iron sights, and rail covers. When I bought my Sig they made a big deal about Magpul buttstock and grip, being a beginner I did'nt know that it was the cheapest parts Magpul makes. I have had alot of fun with my Sig but I would do things different today. This ar308 going to be a good piece of equipment. Most of my discussions have been good . You guys and this site have been so helpful, I am already thinking of my next build. Hoping that my 20 year old twins well want one or maybe the wife.

Keep up the good work guys. WE are @ 42 replies closing in on DNP with 61 replies

We all have to get along and support are state local gun suppliers and manufacturers (CAlifornia). I got frustrated with JDM but they have great products, they are California and they are nice people. Keep buying those lowers. I am buying a few of each 223 and 308 lowers.

I was unaware that there are rules here. Is it cool to talk prices and things like that. NoFail its cool about the thread thing. I have enjoyed your comments and opinions. By the way my wife is cool about picking up the upper. We are renting bikes and riding to the gun show. She even agreed to carry the cases of amo while I safely carry and protect the upper.

Hello guys, I was thinking of cutting my barrel to get a true 16". But it would take longer and now I'm getting a 12" to 13" Samson quad rail. Would that look weird with the barrel barely sticking out ? Has anyone picked up a Lewis Machine & Tool ar308 16" barrel mono top rail. Its cost is 2850.00 to 3250.00 . Its the best ar I have ever picked up. It set up and ready to go.The LMT butt stock is very nice. I think down the line I'm going to replace my Vltor for the LMT .

Yamadawg & NoFail , My wife and I are going away for are anniversary this weekend. The gun show where my upper is going to be is only about 20 minutes away from the place we are staying. What am I going to do ? I had better get my son to pick it up.

NoFail, I well try to get some pictures up, I know what you mean about the pictures and I love to show my stuff off. The pictures I have are on my phone I've been showing anyone that well stop and look.

Andreas6.5ar and NoFail, you guys are ahead of me. Im not quite there yet. Dropped off my upper, barrel, suppressor and 12" quad rail to the Sacramento guy to put together and test fire. So maybe next weekend I well have caught up to you guys. Bought a case of 168gr. to be ready to use if the 147gr and 150gr isnt cycling. Sal talked me into trading my high rise gas block for a low profile one and using a 12" quad rail. It is a no brainer. Im glad that I brought the whole build to the show to get good advise. Thanks Bob

Yamadawg, Im going to the gun show tomorrow to pick up a quad rail a samson or daniel defense. Both about the same price. Its going together and we well see that happens. Im also buying 163gr. Thanks for the good tips and suggestions. I well let you know what happens Bob

Yamadawg' That do you thing of the low mass bolt carrier idea ?
-
Yamadawg, Thanks for the info. Even if you are the bearer of bad news. I was also informed that if you use a low mass bolt carrier it can correct the problem. The Sacramento connection said that the gas tube on the 223 is the same on the 308. The same amount of gas pushing a larger bolt. A low mass bolt carrier can sometimes fix the problem. Your information is helpful. I am going to test this barrel soon as possible. This is an example why this site is so helpful. If this barrel doesn't workout what do you suggest

Talked to my guy from Sacramento he informed me that Troy is not going to work with the HP upper. Looks like I'm going to bite the bullet and get the SAmson or the Daniel Defense. I justify it by not going over 2000.00. I'm at 1850.00. I may be ready to shoot by Sunday. Rainier Arms is great. I ordered my barrel on Thursday night and it was on my door step Monday afternoon. No tax and reasonable shipping costs. I ordered a Vltor light clamp from DMPS the cost was 32.00 . with tax and shipping it was almost 50.00. Live and learn.

Are those law in Illinois worse than California ?
-
I'm going to call Troy Industries tomorrow to see if they have what I'm looking for. Hopefully the TRX system could work. The Glendale Gun Show is this weekend maybe I can find some answers or ideas. There is a booth that I have bought some AR308 stuff from, these two guys are very knowledgable. I. well let you know what I come up with

Got my ar308 16" almost finished. Got the barrel today from Rainier Arms and its very nice. I'm looking for a hand guard. Hoping that the Troy TRX is going to work. I dont know if its a HP. Any ideas ?

I love all of JD Machine's products and we need to support a California manufactuer . But I'm going for the square look , round is comfortable and there is more options. I got my barrel today. I measured between the end of the upper to end of the gas block and I got 9 1/4". So now I have less options . I have noticed on the mid length 9" the actual length is 9.25". I know there is a hand rail out there for me. Daniel Defense has one thats almost perfect but it 375.00

I ordered a 16" barrel from Rainier Arms . It was the only one that I could find with everything I wanted. 16", Mid length, .750 @ gas block and between 200.00 to 300.00. Anyone got any suggestions on handguards ? I like Troy but I dont know if I well work with my configuation. I would like to stay in the 200.00 range. I trying to build this 308 for under 2000.00. Im @ 1540.00 . Need hand guard and gas tube
-
Fulton only shows 18.5 barrels on up. 308 hand guards in mid length is a hard one. I see that JD uses centurion for their 308s . Troy MRX is one Im trying to find. DPMS is there im going to find a barrel.

Not a lot of choices on 16" barrels for 308
-
Any suggestions on a 16" barrel and handguard for a mid -length

All is well @ Zuma Beach . I received my lower the next day with the bolt catch pivot threaded. It came back in perfect shape. Bought a bolt carrier @ the Costa Mesa Gun Show, so I have a complete gun less hand guard and barrel. I hope to be complete under 2000.00 So far I have 1260.00 into it. My thoughts on a barrel is 14 1/2" to 16" w/Vltor 2 1/4" flash hider , free floating hand guard, and raised gas block. I saw a Lewis Machine 16" for 466.00 . A bit pricey. Could use the help.

Called JD yesterday to confirm that my 308 lower would be at the Costa Mesa Gun Show. They said it was sent out that day. That am I going to get when it comes UPS. makes me a little nervous Hopefully we well find out Friday or Monday.
-
Called JD Machine this morning and they told me that he would call back with an answer. I called back in the afternoon and I was told that the lower had not been sent. I told them that I would pick up @ the Costa Mesa show. Why is it so hard to plop the darn thing in the the mail or UPS. Its been fixed for 3 weeks. I love there products and that they are in California. I plan to buy more stuff from them if I can work this poor service out. I hope to visit their shop. JD just opened a show room that they never had before. Maybe that's the problem with the service. Next time I post I well be asking on how to put the lower parts kit together. Hopefully.
-
I love my JD Machine upper & lower. But the service is not so good. I got a lower parts kit. When I got to the catch bolt pin on the parts kit it was threaded and the lower was not threaded . I sent the lower back to JD to fix. Rather than go into detail. I have made several calls and its finally fixed but they just wont send it back to me. I am itching to get this 308 going. Do I have to go get it myself.
